  • There are over 300 abilities in the Pokemon series, but today we're going to make up some of our own. What if we did the exact opposite of Regigigas' Slow Start? What passive ability from the Smash Bros series do we think would work well in Pokemon as well? How would we balance two turn moves if they could always be executed in one turn? What if we made Talonflame's ability Gale Wings again but worse? All that and more in today's video.

I'd give Tropius an ability called Grafting that allows it to permanently gain the effect of any berry it is holding so stat berries would act like choice items without locking you in, super effective berries would permanently remove one of it's weaknesses, and healing berries would work as a better version of leftovers healing 1/8 of hp every turn instead of only 1/16 this wouldn't be too broken since Tropius isn't actually that good and it makes sense thematically because you're basically 'Grafting' different berries onto his little chin beard which would make them literally part of its body

    Some of my ability ideas.
    Sunburn: harsh sun burns pokemon.
Third degree: fire type pokemon can be burned.
Misdirection: triggers the secondary effect of any of the Pokèmon's moves.
Combo star: moves that hit multiple times increase in damage by 10% for each consecutive each hit.
Envenom: all biting moves have a chance to Poison.
Sun shower: water type moves are boosted in sunlight and fire type moves are boosted in rain.
Steam cloud: raises evasiveness when hit by a water type move.

      Here's one I thought of.
      Ambidextrous
Pokemon with more than 2 hands can make any physical move with either 60 or less base power, or 80% or less accuracy, a 30% chance to hit 2 to 5 times.
      Thoughts?

    • @shawntross6104
      @shawntross6104 Před 6 měsíci +1

      Also some others.
Stuncoat: 2/3 chance to either poison or paralyze when hit by physical move.
Psychocoat: 2/3 change to either confuse or poison when hit by a physical move.
Contaminate: Water attacks gain a 1/3 chance to poison.
Specialty Tactics: Same type status moves that target your opponent deal damage equal to the user's level

      @bigledian4008 Před 6 měsíci +1

Psychic the type and Psychic the special attack: 😐
    Anyway have some ability ideas:
    - Overchill: Ice-types can be frozen
    - Anti-Hero: Dark-type moves are super effective against Fighting-types
    - Rebellious: Boosts attack by one stage if hit by a Fighting-type move
    - Arms Expert: Boosts the power of ball and bomb moves
    - Cauterize: Burn heals 1/8 HP, attack drop from burn is removed
    - Mana Block: Immunity to Fairy-type moves
    - Toxic Partner: Badly poisons infatuated Pokémon
    - Conformist: Ignores attacking abilities
    - Mystic Power: Doubles Special Attack
    - Aqua Affinity: Increases the power of Water-type moves by 50%
    - Snakeskin: Halves damage from non-contact moves, but doubles that of Steel-type moves

    1) Weird Guard - All damage dealt to and from you deal neutral damage
    2) Speedster - When the Pokemon is first sent out to battle, it's speed, evasion and accuracy all raise by one stage, but evasion can no longer be changed
    3) Focus Pressure - Moves deal 50% more damage but take 2 pp instead of 1

    • @Nihilismatic
      @Nihilismatic Před měsícem +1

@@topmega2533 I know, but the BETTER VERSION of the ability is tied to a Pokémon with exactly one hp. If you give this to any moderately bulky mon that gets Toxic, it’d be one of the best walls in the game since it isn’t threatened by anything that hasn’t set up.

    • @Blackstarrkhalis
      @Blackstarrkhalis Před měsícem +1

@@Nihilismaticweird guard isn’t OP as he stated it affects both Pokémon attacking. So the weird guard Pokémon and the enemy Pokémon both just do normal damage to each other which isn’t op at all. It actually can happen normally if both of you don’t have super effective moves in the first place

    • @Nihilismatic
      @Nihilismatic Před měsícem

@@Blackstarrkhalis Yeah, but the fact that you don’t do supereffective damage doesn’t matter. It’s clearly a defensive ability, as your main damage source will probably come from residual damage. Can you imagine trying to stop a Toxapex without a super-effective move? A Gyarados that’s dragon-dancing without any? It guarantees that whatever role the assigned Pokémon gets, it’ll excel at it. Even a follow me Pokémon with this would be hella good, since there’s actually no reason not to bring it with it having zero bad matchups. If the mons highest stat is bulk, it’ll be an amazing wall. If it’s highest stat is attack/special attack, it’ll be an amazing set up-sweeper. If it’s highest stat is speed, it’ll be an amazing support Pokémon. Wonder guard is balanced around one HP, but this ability *isn’t* balanced around anything. If put on around 50% of the dex would make them a competitively viable Pokémon immediately.

  • @tailz555

I had the idea for an ability called "perfect memory" where a pokemon keeps all its stat changes even after switching and being sent out again.

9:49 About this, I think it's unfair that the Electric type doesn't have an equivalent ability to this. So introducing Surge, an ability that powers up Electric-type moves by 50% when the Pokemon that has it falls to 1/3 of its max HP. I could see this as a hidden ability for the Pikachu line, as well as select Pikaclones and Electric-types with stats about on par with a fully-evolved starter Pokemon(since all standard starters get Blaze, Torrent, or Overgrow as a hidden ability).
Also, I could see Sweet Dreams as a PERFECT signature ability for Cresselia!

The point of the name “gorilla tactics” is that, while it sounds like “guerilla tactics,” an actual _gorilla’s_ tactics would be much simpler, but have brute force behind them. Edit: Just watched the vid, you guys had a lot of the same ideas as me lol
Elementalist - This Pokemon has its stats raised when hit by an elemental attack. Immune to elemental attacks. (Fire boosts attack, Grass boosts defense, Electric boosts special attack, water boosts special defense.)
Hollow Ear - This Pokémon is immune to sound based moves. It cannot be confused
Evasion Stance - When at full HP, this pokemon will dodge all moves without 100% accuracy.
Critical Stance - When at full HP, all of the user’s moves will Crit.
Vexing Spirits - The Pokemon directly across from this Pokemon is unable to switch out naturally. At the end of each turn, that Pokemon has a 50% chance to become confused.
Careful Guard - This Pokemon will be protected from all contact moves before it moves each turn. Doesn’t work on switch in.
Caged Reality - After being hit, this Pokemon summons a reality cage, trapping itself and the attacker inside. Once inside, they can only target and be targeted by each other. The cage lasts 3 turns. Not triggered when hit by a partner.
Charge Time - This Pokemon’s attacks have 1.5x power if they are the last on the field to move.
Psyche Out - On switch in, opposing Pokemon’s special attack stats are lowered by one stage.
Preparation - This Pokemon is immune to multi turn attacks. (Solar Beam, Fly, Phantom Force) Not immune if the move is charged early.
Versatility - This Pokemon will always have equal attack and special attack stats when it switches in. Its stats will default to whichever stat is higher. (EVs effect both)
Lagging Illusion - On switch-in this Pokémon sets up trick room.
Toxic Blood - If this Pokemon is hit by a draining move, the attacker will faint.
Demotivated - This Pokemon will always move last in its priority bracket.
Knowledge Over All - This Pokemon always has access to protect and recover, along with 4 other moves.
Royal Command - Each turn, this Pokemon(commander) will summon a member of its family. Each member acts independently of the commander. Maximum of three members active at one time. (Each member acts as a new Pokemon that can be targeted by the opponent. Every member attacks a random opponent each turn with an attack stat of 50, with a 50 power typeless move every turn.) Members have 1 HP and the same speed stat as the commander. If the commander faints, all members do as well.
Strong Armor - This Pokemon is immune to damage from all damaging moves under 80 base power. (Secondary effects still apply)
Pure Rage - If this pokemon attacks and does no damage, its attack is raised by 1 stage.
Photosynthesis - This Pokémon is immune to Light Based Moves. It heals 50% of its maximum HP if hit by a Light Based Move.
Veiled Eyes - This Pokémon is immune to Light based moves.
Radiant Glow - The power of Light Based Moves is increased by 1.5x.
Blazing Glare - All Light Based Moves are converted to Fire type.
Smoke Bomb - Whenever this Pokémon switches out, it sets up Fog.
Trickster - All supereffective hits are now resisted, all resisted hits are supereffective, all immune hits OHKO, and all OHKO moves do no damage. Only works on defense.
Clear Focus - This Pokemon can know 5 moves at any one time.
Hazy Figure - This Pokemon gains a 25% evasion boost in the fog.
Ice Eater - This Pokemon is immune to Ice type attacks. Heals 25% when hit by a ice type attack.
Sound Sleeper - This Pokemon always sleeps for 3 turns. Each turn asleep, this Pokémon heals 25% health.
Sluggish Scent - All Pokemon on the field besides the user have their evasion cut in half.
Alter of Ruin - All Pokemon on the field besides the user have their speed reduced by 25%.
Risky Stance - All users moves will crit, and the user will always be crit.
Sore Loser/Auto-Bomb - When this Pokémon would faint, it instead uses self destruct
Magic Guard - This Pokémon takes 50% less damage from fairy and dragon attacks.
Bad Sport - When this Pokemon attacks, the target becomes taunted
Vampiric - This Pokemon’s biting moves heal the user for 50% of the damage dealt.
The stronger ones of these are signature abilities on mons that have other limitations

Puppeteer; Deals 50% more damage against a trapped target
, takes 50% less damage from a trapped target.
Cacophony; Doubles the power of Sound based moves.
Opportunist; Increases the power of priority moves by 30%.
Combative; Turns Normal type moves into Fighting type moves
    . (Like Galvanize or Pixilate)
Ensnare; Trapping moves deal 1/8 damage per turn instead of 1/16

But in exchange, it removes the negative effects of those moves. For example, if Pokemon with this ability uses brave bird, the power reduces to 96 (120 * 0.8 = 96), but the user will not take recoil damage (does not affect moves with posirive effects, two turn moves, or the accuracy of the move).

One really cool ability i once saw in a ROM hack (idk if it ever actually released) was an ability called Quickdraw on a bandito Pokémon. It made the priority of all moves for all Pokémon be 0 while the Pokémon was on the field, except for Protect, Detect, Wide Guard, and Quick Guard (tho I guess the move Quick Guard would be useless in this situstion anyway). All other moves would go based on a Speed check alone, including negative priority moves like Trick Room and Roar.

Might as well share some abilities that I have planned for my own region!
Ambidextrous: This Pokémon can hold two different held items at once.
Big Beatdown: Sound based moves from this Pokémon or allies have an increased critical hit ratio.
Cuteness Overload: This Pokémon inflicts infatuation after taking or dealing damage, regardless of gender.
Entomophobia: Dealing or taking contact damage has a 30% chance to inflict Infestation on the target.
Firepower: This Pokémon gains STAB damage from Fire Type moves.
Groove Jam: This Pokémon heals itself and allies for 1/10th of their max HP after a sound based move is used.
Insulation: This Pokémon is immune to the negative effects of weather conditions, and ignores opposing Pokemon's damage boosts from weather conditions.
Radiation: Badly poisons any other Pokémon on the field after that Pokémon spends one turn in battle.
Reunion: While on the field with another ally that has Reunion in a double battle, both Pokémon will gain a boost in every stat by 1 stage.
Seasickness: This Pokémon gradually drains 10% of the health of aquatic Pokémon every turn, and takes less damage from Water type moves.
Trip Like I Do: Dealing or taking contact damage has a 30% chance to confuse the target.
Unstable Mutation: This Pokémon transforms into a random Pokémon every turn (complete with a different moveset and temporary new ability while transformed).
Controlled Mutation: This Pokémon transforms into a random fully evolved Pokémon every turn (Unstable Mutation changes into this ability after evolution).

Power of move is reduced by 10% and Status moves lose 10 accuracy. So it could be clutch or could amount to nothing

I've come up with some wack-ass abilities of varying levels of overpoweredness before, here's a few
Perfect Strikes: Every time you land a critical hit, your crit damage multiplier increases. (This got paired with a fakemon whose signature move boosts its crit ratio by 1 every time it lands)
Muscle Memory: Spamming a move makes it stronger
Mind Over Matter: You take no damage from burn and poison, also your Special Attack is multiplied by 1.5 while burned, poisoned or paralyzed
Dead Magic: While you're on the field, Dark is resistant to, and strong against Fairy
Magic Knight: If you use an attacking move, you will always use your higher Attacking stat for damage calculation (does not apply to Body Press or Foul Play)
Ultimate Guard: When hit by an attacking move, you will always apply your higher Defending stat (does not apply to Psyshock or Secret Sword)
Unyielding Fist: Your contact moves never miss.
Fancy Footwork: Multiplies the power of your kicking koves by 1.2
Radiation: Your super-effective moves deal 2.5x damage instead of 2x, also your Electric-type attacks ignore abilities
Plasma Buster: While you're on the field, Electric is resistant to, and strong against Ground

Fast Learner for all Baby Pokemon would give them a unique feature, and make them worthwhile to use. I imagine it would be more based on their learnset rather than type. That way if they see or get hit by a move they can learn (say Egg Moves they weren't born with) they could adopt those moves. Would give TPCi incentive to introduce more Baby pokemon as well since they'd then have a usage. Also if games keep Legends Arceus's ability to just readjust the move set on the fly it would become super powerful in a playthough, you hatch a Baby Pokemon and keep it as a Baby to teach it every move it can learn for free.

Very niche, basically only works against multi-hit moves, but the idea is that if you eat a berry, you still have the berry until the end of the turn. So if you're hit by a population bomb while holding a sitrus berry, you always heal back each time you drop below 50% for one turn. Alternatively, you could activate something like a kee berry for each of the up to 5 hits of something like scale shot

IMO Dialga and Palkia should've gotten doper abilities than Pressure. I always imagined Dialga basically having Drizzle but with Trick Room instead of rain. Same thing with Palkia and Gravity I guess, just something that lets it warp space

Fun fact: Regigigas’s special attack stat is exactly half of its attack stat, which means that if someone just so happened to think that special Regigigas could work, if anything it’s somehow worse since your speed is still halved and the fact that Regigigas has a terrible special movepool with only 12 special attacks (13 if you include Hidden Power) that it can legitimately learn. Just more reason to wonder if someone had a vendetta against Regigigas.

Biofuel: every time a berry is consumed the pokemon gets a speed increase.
Low ground: if pokemon is shorter def goes up, goes down if pokemon is taller. (Same height nothing.)
Walk tall: if pokemon is taller than opponent attack goes up, goes down if pokemon is shorter (same height nothing.)
Resolve: accuracy is guaranteed to hit after second consecutive use of move that missed the last turn, EXCLUDING ohko moves.
