Folks, I own this very same truck ( 2016 Dodge Power Wagon Laramie ) That being said this is a very unique truck and very capable. Think of this truck like a long wheel base Jeep Rubicon that is a pickup truck with double the power. I sold my 2011 Jeep Rubicon after 5 years (2 Door) to purchase this very vehicle. I realized I needed a 4 door as well as a bed and nothing else production came close but this power wagon. Gas mileage on average is 12.5 to 13.0 MPG. Only slightly less than an Jeep IMO. MPG can go as low as 8MPG while off road and as high as 14MPG on highway and depending on driving habits. Being this truck has a a 4.10 Gear ration with a 6.4 Hemi it has plenty of power for most usage, that being said if you want a diesel don't buy a Power Wagon. Power Wagon is strictly offload mind set and not offered in a diesel and for good reason. Front sway bar disconnects as as you know has a 12K winch. If you need to haul a heavy trailer then I doubt you are going off road the way the power wagon has intended. Having owned a few Diesels 5.9 ISB ISBe its a heavy beast not needed for off road heavy articulated purpose in mind. I also have a 2007 FJ Cruiser and having owed a Jeep Rubicon I get it! So in closing this truck is awesome in so many ways which is why I traded in the Jeep and bought it. Power Wagon its not cheap especially for the Laramie package. Many folks are hung up on diesels for the wrong reasons, they have their place for sure and I'm a huge fan of them but not in a power wagon. Perhaps a eco diesel (maybe) does but not to be confused with a 6.7 mega road puller. Sticker price on this truck is 59K - 63K so if it were a diesel would be easy 75K. Serious off road then buy one otherwise its not needed. Rebel doesn't compare either IMO so be careful thinking that it does. Closing remarks .... Power Wagon is not a Ford Rapture pre-runner its closer to a Rubicon than anything else.

I traded my 2016 RAM 2500 Tradesman 6.4 4x4 for this Power Wagon (mine's a 2017 with the R-A-M grille), while I love my old RAM which is not so old the Power Wagon has always had a special place in my heart for as far as I remember seeing the 2005 model in a brochure. I've always wanted and I keep thinking of transplanting PW parts to my old 2500 which might end screwing the vehicle if not done right, and I keep seeing them old and new so I told myself might as well join the club and I'm a big fan of the HEMI V-8. Hopefully I can bring it to some rugged place and put the Power Wagon to its paces this year. BTW the truck gets serious attention especially in the Simon and Simon scheme and that intimidating grille.

    @unclecru Před 7 lety +5

Mine is a 2016 model with 11,000 miles now...some things i've learned...it is the most capable truck i've owned for towing and off road work but there are some downsides to that stuff, the bed height makes loading and unloading difficult without actually climbing up into it, forget reaching over the side to pick something up out of the bed because it's just too high...there is plenty of room in the bed but putting groceries or cases of water or other libations back there is a huge mistake because retrieving them may require a ladder or just climbing up into the bed and passing them to someone on the ground.
The height of the truck and consequently the bed are a side effect of the trucks off road capability and heavy loading ability so it isn't a mistake by the engineers, it's just that this truck was designed for things other than ease of access. Other Ram trucks have a lower bed height and that may suit your needs more.
The back up camera and sensor alarm are NOT there as luxury items...without them you will hit other cars, poles, fences, and kids on bikes while backing up...use the camera, pay attention to the sensor alarms!...it could well be a kid you're about to back over and you'd never see them, it gives me nightmares because we've got a hundred kids running around the neighborhood.
Lastly, the truck is not cheap in any fashion...it cost a lot but it was worth every dollar...i suggest using an oil company gas credit card with reward points because keeping this monster topped off is going to cost you...a lot. It is a purpose driven truck, it excels at heavy duty hauling towing and off roading...it was NOT designed for efficiency, it is not a truck to replace your toyota, ranger, colorado for convenience and economy. It IS a big beautiful beast of a machine that will pull down a mountain without needing a break.
The tires are big, specialized, and expensive...when it comes time to replace them do not go shopping for sales, bargains, or cheap replacements...the shoes on this truck are an integral part of the off roading equipment, perhaps even the number one most important part at that...suck it up sunshine, you bought a specialty rig, not a vanilla grocery getter, don't treat it like one and it will be fine, if it's too much for you then you got the wrong truck to begin with, sell it to someone prepared for the care and feeding of a specialty truck.
Ford's Raptor, the Dodge Power Wagon, both the Clydesdales of the off road work horse stock truck world...like the Viper or Corvette they are specialized vehicles that accell in specific areas but that specialization costs them in others...
Only 1 in 100 of you will ever use this truck to its full potential...to do what it was built to do...the other 99 guys or gals should have bought a Ram Rebel or a Ram 1500...so much cheaper, so much cheaper to operate and maintain...use the right tool for the job and if this is the tool you need then you're going to leave your wife for this Power Wagon...my single regret...i didn't wait for the 2017 model...
A last note...I sold my ford raptor for this truck because this one was better for towing...the Raptor was a fantastic off roader and a fun drive...but it didn't have the towing chops the Power Wagon does and the handling on road with that heavy trailer because the Raptor was built for flying over the dunes...and god did that truck love to fly...but that was all it was great at.

If these come over to OZ RHD I would buy one as it would be my last vehicle I would need to buy. It has all you need. The finish is amazing and looked after it would and should last a life time. I would only get a Factory built RHD as some of the converted one's over here a little to be desired. It's petrol, V8, Hemi, Lockers, sway bar disconnects, winch, BIG and a RAM. That's enough for me and my family. American gallon is 3.8 litres and the Australian gallon is 4.5 litres.

Do you homework people and stay away from the 6 cylinder RAM ecodiesel. They don't
take the little added cost to key the cam gears, but instead just
tighten them down with a bolt that will eventually allow the valve gear
to slip and thus the motor blows.

PT Barnum once said...'there's an ass fit for every chair'...your dads ass likely fit this truck really well, i'm pleased for him...my dad worked his ass off to support six kids and put us all through college without a single loan, it took decades of double shifts and two heart attacks...what my dad wants he gets, period...regardless of what his kids think of it...

The Tow Rating is little over 15,000 Thousands pounds. I own a 2015 Power Wagon the tow ratings went up from the old power wagons 2014 and up have the higher ratings.

+Gilbert Silvas No, they didn't go up. The power wagon can tow right around 10,000 pounds. 15K is nearing standard 2500 territory, I own one as well.

Look at the RAM towing chat for a 2015 Power Wagon Larmie and it will say 15,000 pounds and 3,000 Pay load so 12,000 towing. The ratings are SAE standards I also confirm this by calling RAM and gave them my Vin. the SLT Power Wagon does have a lower ratings then the Laramie.

I typed out a massive message and accidentally hit back, and no longer have the determination to re type it. The power wagon tows less due to the Articu-link rear coils. Payload is restricted to just beyond 1500 pounds, towing on the Laramie is right around 9000. and the Laramie has the lowest of both of these, due to the added weight of luxuries. I don't now who you talked to, and honestly, rams website has allot of information listed incorrectly about the power wagon, but if you go to their site, towing and payload are two they have gotten correct. Higher trims ALWAYS have less payload and less towing than the lower trims. Just because you have leather, doesn't mean the GCWR goes up thousands of pounds.

The artilink is up front and if the website is so wrong then neither of us has the correct information. I know my truck what is has and what it can do.

Articulink describes the control arms in the front, and the 5 link rear coils. I dont know about you, but i buy and sell these trucks, as well as work on them, and im positive i have the right information.
