I find this video so helpful to those of all climbing abilities. First off this guy climbing for 10 months ??? That’s actually amazing skill for only 10 months of climbing. PS you’re a blessing to the climbing community Josh
He said he did 3 years of calisthenics prior, I would imagine that would help with strength a lot compared to someone going in completely green. But I agree he’s really good for 10 months either way!
@@missylarsson3517 didn’t catch that but I’m sure that strength transfers but there’s no lie in that finger strength lol most people would be pumped out
I am not from the UK and I have never climbed at Hangar, but I watch so many British climbers that I instantly recognize the purple dyno that Alex Waterhouse can do back and forth
It seems to be Josh trained a lot of callisthenics. His core is super strong, and watching him climb is super great. Also, I like you two climbing together. Nice team :)
Great video! Love the concept of comparing a relatively new climber with someone who's got more experience. It's great to really see it and pay attention to the details. Very instructive!
Thank you Josh for another great video! Been waiting for this one and they always make me smile 😊 honestly you should deserve more credit! Keep them coming 👌😊
Great video, as always. But man, i'm just always so jealous at how "empty" the climbing gyms are... My city (around 130k ppl) only has one lonely gym and no matter the time of day it's always packed with people. At what times do you usually go?
Thank you! Yea we are really lucky that when we film we can do it in the day when it’s quiet. Wow that one gym must get a lot of traffic, maybe you need to pursued them to open another one 😃
@@louisdown1506 Keep it up. I still catch myself saying stuff like that too sometimes. I recently started climbing 4 months ago, and i used to do calisthenics like you. Seeing you do those hard climbs is pretty inspirational. Right i can do up to v4
@@ctogive yh if you were to transfer from anything calisthenics would be the one. turns out my 3 years of training in the gym doing 1 rep maxes really does not translate to pulling off 10mm edges
I notice Josh is more able to speak while climbing than Louis and has developed more good habits like switching feet more properly and safely and observing all the holds, and brushing all the holds before the climb. Stamina is a slight difference as well although I'm not sure how much rest you guys have in between cause he seems to breathe harder than Josh. This us just my observation though i could be wrong. BTW, this is an awesome video. I've been climbing for 3 months now and I've only started doing v5 regularly. Louis is insane!!
I think that has probably all come with a lot of practice and the time I’ve been climbing. But when I’m trying climbs at my max I definitely can talk still and breath heavier. Wow V5 in 3 months is awesome 💪! Louis is awesome, great climber 🧗♂️
What are the actual grades like in this gym? For someone 10-months in to be climbing the hardest set routes (usually v10-v12 for indoor boulders) is pretty unheard of. Congrats to him though.
There are no actual grades, just the colour bands I put on the screen. The whites I would say at a guess are anywhere from V4-V6. They are not the hardes the hardest is yellow and black, with black being the hardest.
I'm sure this has been said somewhere in the comments, but I'd just like to point out for anybody watching this video who is not informed, that this is not normal climbing progression after 10 months haha. The calisthenics background must have a lot of crossover with climbing.
I would like to see this with someone who did not do calesyinics prior to climbing. It feels a bit like cheating because i would say that the cross over from that to climbing is as close as it gets when compared to other sports.

20:25 man just went from "I'm gonna fall off" to "Flash" in a matter of seconds and almost completed the route
Great video! I would love to see you do some more board climbing though :D Maybe a cheeky Kilter Board shesh? :D
We actually filmed a kilter board video the day we filmed this so watch this space 👀😃
If Louis went at that pink fresh, he'd have flashed it, 100%.
Very great video, i just myself started climbing and this was very nice knowledge! great stuff i subbed

Great video. It was like we all just were chilling with you there
Ahah that’s what we like to hear
Tell Louis to have more confidence in himself. Before almost every boulder he says that he’ll miss it, even though he still makes it.
I agree! He’s a really good strong climber. We talked a bit about that towards the end of the video.
