  • Are you having difficulty walking because of a foot drop for a foot slap? Then this video might help you.
    There are multiple reasons why you might have a foot drop. Either an injury to your leg and peroneal nerve or a neurological disease like multiple sclerosis, ALS or stroke. Foot drop is different from a spastic foot with plantar flexion. When you hold your foot up and release it it will just be dropping down if it is a true foot drop. If it is spastic it is difficult to stretch and move that ankle upwards. But in any case we need to manage that food drop otherwise it will be so difficult for you to walk because you are leg with a foot drop will just drag that foot. You will have a higher risk of falling. First we need to facilitate the muscle and wake it up. You can use either a fast brushing, fast tapping or icing. Stimulate that area or the muscle responsible for raising your toe and foot up. The direction on how to stimulate muscle is going upwards. Do it for 30 seconds. After 30 seconds try to raise your toes up towards your nose. If it is difficult for you to go against gravity, you might want to do a long sitting or lying on your bed with your hip and knee bent. I prefer the couch because you also have back support this way. Palce a rolled up towel or throw under your knee. or And if it is too hard to do that at the moment, you can assist the movement using a belt or a rubber band that is long enough for you to hold. Try to bring your foot and toes towards your nose. Do that ten repetitions for three sets. When you’re movement is getting better as you’re able to raise your toes and foot up easier, start doing these exercises with your leg fully extended it straight which is more difficult compared to when your hip and knee are also flexed. I will do another video once you’re foot drop is getting better and your ankle is getting stronger and doing dorsiflexion.

    I find it helpful to watch videos with people that actually HAVE dropped foot. It a neurological condition dude. It's not a case of "out of shape," being too lazy or not working out the foot. It's hard to really imagine not being able to pull up the top of your foot until it actually happens to you.

    90degree foot drop SPLINT MUST BE USED IN THE NIGHT, WHILE ASLEEP..OR ELSE, THE FOOT DROP IS GOING TO GET WORSE.
    THE ABOVE MENTIONED SPLINT MUST BE WORN AT ALL TIMES BY THE AFFECTED PERSON ON THE AFFECTED SIDE.
    ONLY DURING FOOT ,DORSIFLEXION EXERCISES, THE SPLINT CAN BE REMOVED.
    THE PATIENT COULD USE A THERABAND ,TO PULL UP THE TOES, IN DORSIFLEXION ,EVEN IN SITTING POSITION AGAINST GRAVITY......THIS POSITION IS GOOD FOR QUICK RECOVERY.

    I do have a question. I have a foot drop for a year now but I still go out and play golf walking, walk the trails and I exercise quite a bit focusing on my core. I also climb the stairs almost daily for 30 minutes and finished 80 flghts (8 steps per flight). Is this bad for my foot drop problem?

    • @sayckeone
      @sayckeone Před 4 měsíci +1

      This is a year old, but the idea is that when you pull your foot up and release the band, you need to use your muscles to keep your foot in that position for ten seconds, which should strengthen the muscle over time, allowing you to eventually regain upward movement of your foot.

    Hi Dr. Nathan. My aunt got her first stroke attack in Oct'22. Her right arm, hand and fingers are flaccid.
    She can curl up her fingers (not so well, but she can) by using her shoulder strength, what do I need to do more to help her everyday?
    Whenever she's panic, her hand becomes stiff for a moment.
    I can see there’s a gap within her shoulder and arm.
    How to increase her hands ability?
    Thank you so much Dr. Nathan!
