- In this armoring tutorial I’ll show you how to make splinted vambraces. Vambraces / forearm guards are part of medieval armor meant to protect forearm. Splinted armor is one the easiest ways to make armor and this is a good project for a beginner.
Most of the armor is made from 1,5 mm steel. I wanted to learn more about electro etching and tried to make this simple armor in unique way. So in this tutorial I'll also show how to etch metal.

I love the idea of the primer to use as the resist for the etch. That's a smooth and easy idea
Is there a specific reason you use primer instead of a different paint type?
I've done it before with normal paint and I noticed that primer holds better during scratching / etching. Normal paint can come off in small parts when you etch so you lose some details
That's awesome! I tried to make a vambrace once as a single solid piece but it was hard to get in and out of and didn't work well with rotating my arm. I hadn't thought of doing multiple "splint" pieces, I'll have to try that now!
Glad to hear you liked it! This actually feels very comfortable even though I don't have any cloth under it. This type of armor actually has historical background, and in some forms "splint armor" has been used in many places around the world.

Pretty cool, was that mild steel or stainless steel. I made one of David Guyton's gauntlets, learned a lot from that process. Going to check out your other videos, keep up the good work!

@@GarageKnight if its mild steel, might want to put a clear coat on it. I left my gauntlet in the workshop while i was recovering from this flurona and it started to rust. Had to re-polish it and throw a coat of clear lacquer on it.
@@donaldlyons6393 what kind lacquer have you used? So far I've been using the metal polish paste and it has kept my builds rust free (oldest are 4 years).
Only the insides rust a bit, but I'm either going to paint the insides or heat blue the pieces and polish the surface so the insides stay blued
I looked on your website and there wasn't a template, I just wanna know the sizes of the splints
