    In this video I show the steps and procedures necessary to release the electronic emergency brake system. In order to service the rear brakes new model F1 50s equipped it with electronic parking brakes. You first have to put electronic parking brake system (EPB) Into maintenance mode. If you do not you will not be able to retract the piston into the caliper during the brake install. I hope this video helps you out. If you have any questions please leave something in the comment section. Thank you for watching

    I’m so glad I found this video. The dealership wanted to charge me $150ish just to plug my truck into their computer… and over $400 in labor just to change out the rear brakes when I was supplying the brakes already.

    Photograph these directions with your phone
    PUTTING TRUCK IN SERVICE MODE (MAINTENANCE MODE)
    1.) Ignition in the on position
    2.) Press and hold gas pedal
    3.) Push down on EPB switch.
    4.) Continue holding both down
    5.) Turn ignition off, then
    6.) Turn ignition on within 5 seconds
    while holding down on gas and switch down.
    Park Brake Maintenance Mode will display
    on Message Center Dashboard.
    7.) Ignition off, then release pedal and EPB switch.
    PUTTING TRUCK BACK TO NORMAL MODE
    1.) Ignition on
    2.) Press and hold gas pedal
    3.) Push up on EBP switch
    4.) Continue holding gas down, and up on EPB switch
    5.) Turn ignition off, then
    6.) Turn ignition on within 5 seconds
    while holding down on gas, and switch up.
    7.) Release gas and EPB switch.
    The only confusing part of these directions, is when it says to push
    down on EPB switch, you literally put your finger on the lowest part
    of the EPB switch, and push in (forward).
    When directions say to push up on EPB switch, put your finger on
    the uppermost part of the switch and push in (forward).
    EPB is Electronic Parking Brake
    * You can thank me later

      Once successfully placing the vehicle in service mode, does this allow you to fully compress the pistons for a pad swap with a C clamp as if it were the front. Or do you still need to spin while compressing

I have a 2018 F150 Ranch King FX4 (w/Electronic Rear Parking Brakes) and after watch six or seven different videos by others here stating their methood would work on my 2018 F150 truck none of them had worked. Before I knew about this, I had the caliper off, found out about this, and accidently messed it up, resulting in the parking brake to activate, which then pushed the piston all the way out of the caliper onto the ground. Thank Jesus I was doing the job with my mechanical engineer father in law, who, after he finished freaking out, was able to disassemble and reassemble the entire thing. Only took six hours for the brake job!

    • @AaronHinesAuto
      @AaronHinesAuto  Před 5 lety

      You can try to put the piston back in the caliper, open the bleed screw at the top of the caliper first. The push the piston back in with a c-clamp. If you can’t u would strongly suggest purchasing a new caliper from ford. Either way you go you must bleed the brakes after the repair

      You won’t be able to compress the piston inside of the caliper. You can remove the caliper without doing the procedure. But you can’t install it back with new pads are on the truck

    • @RichRyan3
      @RichRyan3 Před 4 lety +2

      Aaron Hines So I just royally screwed things up before reading this post. I’ve done many brake jobs with no problem but this was the first one on my 2016 with an electronic e brake. I had already replaced the pads and couldn’t push the caliper back in. Read about this procedure and did it, except it fully extended the caliper piston and now I can’t get it to go back in and this is all with my wheel off. Following the procedure for taking it out of service mode does nothing and I just have the parking brake malfunction message on my dash now. Do you know of anyway to get this caliper piston back in or do I need to remove the electronic brake motor now in order to do this? Right now I am screwed with a truck stuck on jack stands.
