Hi
This car came to me with an issue with the oil temperature and level sensor...
On a quick check found that was no voltage at the sensor plug...
I had to "bodge" this one a bit... agreed with the owner that would be the most cost effective solution...
Follow me on this video to find out what was the problem and how I have resolved it...

Well done, I have seen this even in the aviation industry, the guy told me that finding the short would be crazy expensive and they just by pass the wire
Thanks!
👍
Great solution! VAG cars are realy hard with the wires build away
I had this once with a Mercedes A 108 who blowes the immobiliser fuse and replaced the whole wire.
Indeed!
The labour involved to trace that wire would be enormous...
At least got it all working!
👍
Nice solution.I disassembled the whole car A4 B6 for a melted wire(who said that a wire can affect a bunch of wires. ..).Keep up the good work!
Indeed it can... it can kill the whole car...
I guess you haven't seen the videos I have done for the bmw...

Well done Luise. No One take time to fix the loom behind the dash for sure. Excellent video. Thx 4 sharing.

I have the same problem. I have had the warning on my dashboard for more than a year now and I have had different advices from different mechanics
Most best solution.. for money, time and efforts .. i wish you showed to us the finish about how you added the wire to another fuse is it like a pro or just pull out the fuse and put a wire beneath it. By the way i read about people who said its wrong ... i laughed because you showed the solution but if he was the technician and wants to find the problem be will never ever find it .. again thanks sir for your efforts and best wishes.. I had like these problems everyday and you should be a genius to solve' em 😀😀😁😁.
Thanks Hamad...
I have proper soldered the wire underneath... I know was not very good I could not show it... but was i have explained in the video...
👍👍👍👍
No car can stand when you put the hand on it. Good job.

Greedings from Greece. Thanks mate. Also had the same problem . Mechanics changed two sensors and nothing happened.Besides the time and money i couldent get it fixed. Now i fix it my self . Thanks a lot. (any ideas for a cluster gone crazy on my 2001 Audi A3 8L ????)
If it works, it works! By the way, if you don't want to fix it, it's possible to disable it with VCDS (or other scanner) in Instrument cluster module (Adaptation>"Oil level sensor adaptation" and replace "1" with "0")
Correct...
Thanks!
Where do you get the number values from for changing things within vcds
@@mkfourgli1 1 for enable 0 for disable, it's kind of obvious :)
@@sputnikas tough guy it wasn't obvious to me, so I asked to learn something, but thanks for the info bitch
I notice the steering wheel was fully extended. This fault is usually a shorted wire above the moveable column. Proper pain in the arse to get to. Also, no amount of ragging the wires about gives you any clue as to where the problem is. This fault occurs due to the superior German build quality.
i love your videos , thank you and keep the hard work.
Thanks!

Thanks man, I've tried everything, I will try your solution 👍

Hi,
We have We see the yellow oil lamp and the sensor sign in our audi a3 2005 year 1.6 automatic car , we changed the oil, the oil cooler has been changed, but this light still remains on. What could be the main reason for the problem? Can you help?
In general, how much volt can I get from the pin of the oil lever sensor?
I got the tweaks done and this error just popped up. Don’t see any fault with either sensor or wire. Some says that it’s post the tweaks done. Any advice what could have gone wrong on my Jetta 2015 TDi 2.0
Hi, I noticed the aftermarket equipment and I wondered if they had tapped the power out wire from the back of the fuse box. I have done this on them Audi's when fitting trackers. Would be worth a quick look.
Thanks for the suggestion...

We just bougth Audi A3 8P 1.6 102HP without FIS feature in the dials. We can't find any indicator of oil while startup engine on two dials and on the display between the dials. This is normal?
I don't speak English, but I have the same problem. I have the oil level sight glass when the level is good. Can you explain to me what he did to get him to leave? thank you so much

Hey. I have a suggestion for you, the easier way to find a short circuit wihout burning fuse after fuse. What i doing in those situations, i take out burned fuse. And put h7 light from low beam, doesnt metter. ofcourse with two wires. so if the light shines bright then i know its a short circuit. but as soon as you unplug something or find a problem, the light turns off, sorry for my english. :) cheers
That's a really interesting concept!
I might do something with it...
Thank you for watching and for your comment!
But it's important to use h7 light and it should shine as bright as possible. Then it's a short circuit, because the smaller lights sometimes can still light up even tho there isn't a problem at all. Even h7 can shine but ofcourse not fully bright. I hope you can understand what I mean.
Keep it up ! Really helpfull video. Thanks

I had a similar problem with an abs system, I bypassed the wire from the offside rear wheel (signal wire) and connected it directly to the abs module, problem solved.

Hi LM Auto Repair thanks for last about Audi A5 oil level sensor I have a question for you if the oil level sensor goes would it leak oil out all I see is oil drop from the back of my car
An oil leak can come from many different places... I guess they can leak through the seals... but you need to investigate that...
👍👍👍
@@LMAutoRepairs thanks for your reply I will look tomorrow morning
Smart fix to bypass and re-wire, was it easy to splice in and solder onto this fuse? Maybe there is a video, how you do it ?
Also is it not dangerous for the existing 5amp fuse when you change to a 10 amp to handle the extra load. ?
That was the reason why I changed it to 10 amp... to handle the extra current... if that makes sense...
Thank you for watching and for your comment!
@@LMAutoRepairs How much current was needed extra ) ?

What do you think the voltage would be on pin number 3 ?
If the sensor communicates with a LIN bus signal, with a multimeter you will see 12v or so... but to really check properly you need to check it with an oscilloscope...
But I am not sure if it is a LIN bus connection, never researched at the time...
👍👍👍
Very nice video.
Thanks!

How do you bypass it full stop? Could you cut and connect two wires on the loom or?
Not sure you can bypass it...
You might be able to do it through coding though... I never tried...
👍👍👍
Great video. 👍👍👍👍👍
I have the exact same car and model except mine is a 2009. 🤗 🤗🤗
A question for you "When you have that same fault ( shown on the instrument cluster ) how do you know whether the fault is in the wiring loom OR the SENSOR itself.
ALSO how would you check the sensor " ? 🤔🤔🤔
To me, it looked like it was a sealed unit 👀 👁
Hi
Thanks!
Have you watched the video?
@@LMAutoRepairs Yes 🤔🤔🤔
@@tof3275
And that is why I have asked if you watched the video...
As per the video, you test, to establish where the issue might be... on the wiring, sensor, etc...
The message it is just that, a message, it does not pinpoint the point of failure...
@@LMAutoRepairs Thanks that, it now makes perfect sense 👍😊👍😊👍😊

Hi I got this same issue , I’ve done the checks and have got 12v into sensor and 2.4v out of sensor to cluster , but can’t find where the earth goes , I really need to find terminal 50 relay I have looked but cans find sensor earth
Somewhere by the left headlight...
👍👍👍
Hi thanks for reply , am I looking for a relay or a bad earth ? By the left headlight? Also can I connect an earth to the cluster somewhere , like you did with the 12v ? I found sensor ground on the cluster pins but there’s no continuity to earth , could I just earth it to body ground? Thanks in advance
@lucanturner7435
You are asking too many specific questions... lol
Check diagrams, and see how everything is connected, from there you can figure out any possible connections...
Grounds are just grounds... they don't go through relays...
👍
Knocked my oil level sensor wire harnesses off by accident and the went into limp mode and died. Turns out if my car has 3 fault codes she's going into limp and dying. I did a battery reset and that got the car started and I limped home 45kms away. Got a scan tool, cleared the codes and she runs great. Still gotta fix the electric dipstick/sensor but who really needs it? I have a dip stick

Oil temp? Is that not just a oil Level sencor??
I spent 200 on a new sensor only to have a wiring short. I'm not spending any more money on it, just gonna bypass it
Shows the importance of diagnosis before buying parts...
At least you found the short...
👍👍👍
Hi L.M., I have followed your instructions for diagnosis, this is what I have, I have 12v on power line but when I check signal, the voltage is fluctuating between 5v and 0.5 volt, constantly fluctuating, no fault codes and oil light always on, oil temp is 0 deg. any tips, cheers
Where have you checked that, at the sensor, or at the ecu?
Why is signal to cluster fuctuate ? I can't figure out L.M.
Sorry L.M. I checked at the sensor on the sump, with ignition on and sensor disconnected, I get on cable 12v ok/ gnd ok, but on signal 10.5 v
When I connect back cable to sensor, normal 12v and gnd but signal is fluctuating, I'm really lost here L.M.
@albrrt430
Can be a bad sensor...
That's why I asked, those measurements, were taken at the sensor plug, or at the ecu plug?
Missed your last message...
Measure at the ecu plug, to ensure wiring is good...
If ok, I would suspect the sensor...
It was fine before I installed new oil pump, I've tried 3 different sensors,, I even changed the cluster believing it may be fault, I will check the ECU, thanks L.M.
I can't get to the bottom of this on 09 tt8j, same cluster as a3, white dial's, i even give the new sensor ( 3rd) direct live and earth from battery and cut the signal wire on the cluster and ran a new line directly from cluster to sensor, still no good, tried different cluster because I thought that might be the problem, sensors are oem (hella) i read the eeprom from cluster and tried to find the switch in the cluster dumps, can't solve this issue, no fault codes 😢
Can't really say much without checking...
Code the sensor off with vcds...😋
👍👍👍
@@LMAutoRepairs coding out is not possible on this cluster with vcds unfortunately 😭

OK...
Difficult to advise after everything you done...
Silly question, are sure that the sensor is the correct one for that car?
@@LMAutoRepairs yes, it's correct one L.M. it's wrecking my head at this stage
It must be bad sensor L M. I've purchased 1 more, OEM Hella, I paid 3 figure sum for it so I hope this is the end of the problem, I'll report back, thanks L.M.
Where do you get the diagrams from ?
Different places... at the moment I have access to HGS....
But I also have Elsa...

I dont like the repair. When the car has problems with the level sensor again, someone will go crazy. I prefer to make a bypass from the original fuse
