The difference between UK & US audiences, is that for the Yanks, the whole aim seems to bait or put down the comedian. In the UK, my experience, is that the audiences like a good bit of banter, & the best comedians play on to it. The Ozzie comedian Luke Kidgell excels at this.

He's been doing it long enough where he's known for his comeback-setup style, and people love attention so they heckle. The more heckling, the better your jokes get.
