Do any of you guys ever feel like a specs battle has become pointless and a phone choice is more of a aesthetic and subjective
choice now that the performance across the board is excellent?

Yes if you want a basic smart phone that does everything to a average level you don't need to spend 800 dollars
Out of principal, it feels very stupid to buy a phone that's half the price of my prescription glasses.
Sort of. My main concern now is battery life and good update support. (Or an unlocked bootloader). There's a point in price where performance is already more than good enough for regular use.
one thing struck me with this phone, uniform bezels. such a simple design element that blows the other budget phones out of the water. love to see it
Totally , it makes such a difference to me
*struck
I don't know how every phone doesn't have that these days
Especially when you see a phone where they *almost* got it but messed up the corner radius
cause its more expensive and you can generelly make the sides smaller then the top or bottom. Top can be bigger to incorporate bigger Speaker grill, or Selfie Camera and other Sensors(extreme example iphone notch) and the bottom needs to be Bigger cause thats where the Electronicss for communication and displaying sits.@@hamza-chaudhry
I love to finally see a company that makes a phone with a plastic back. It does not make sense to have a beautiful brittle phone made of glass that you have to hide inside a cover so it does not fall apart. I hope this starts a trend toward tougher materials instead of glass.
Plastic? Apple did that with the 5C haha
@@fayysalhilal1840 They did, you're right - and I remember it was rather popular. But it didn't stick around for some reason.
U mean like a premium feels plastic. Zenfone way of doing this is gold
Yup glass back sucks
@@fayysalhilal1840How is the 5C relevant here when there's still plastic phones in production today, and plastic phones in production before 5C?
Just the fact that they're a small company actually trying something makes me want to support them
Small company? I hope you're kidding
that isn't a small company it has taken quite a bit of market here in India
Old CEO of One plus and calling him small comany. One plus is in every big provider store nearb. He is just boring and want new challenges.

@Ale-kc9pq so LITERALLY EVERYTHING is a small company? When compared to samsung and apple.

The design is so ugly.
one big seperator from other mid range phones is that it has symmetrical bezels! that's a great addition in this category looks dope
Yeah! Many phones have these weird bezels that get larger at the top and bottom and it's SO UGLY
Main difference will be the software experience 😂😂😂😂😂😂
amen! My biggest gripe
@@snjert8406I'll never understand why people dislike bezels. I prefer them, keeps you from accidentally touching or smudging the screen when it's in landscape. Also it gives room for better cameras and speakers. There are only positives to bigger bezels.
@@nuggetsaltshaker9520 Nothing phones have slightly bigger bezels than most modern phones, but has them completely even around all sides which looks so aesthetically pleasing.
I don't mind bezels, but when a phone has an ugly big bezel chin and short top so your screen is off-center when in landscape, it's ugly as hell.
Having a chin does nothing for your grip, who the hell is holding the phone from the bottom? And even if it does have a chin, it's usually still small to not give any benefits to grip, it just looks ugly with no user functionality.
the comparisons to phone 1 are actually the right thing to do. Nothing knows that the people who are going to buy this are not people who don't know anything about nothing, but nothing fans that can't afford their flagship so they will be thinking which one to buy the old phone 1 or the new budget 2a and it's great that the 2a is better with *AWT22W* we can strengthen something for real, don't overlook that

I love their small touches. It's sooooooo rare for any phone to do anything out of line anymore and Nothing isn't a huge exception, but they do seem to add some very nice little software tweaks and design perks. I intentionally watched MKBHD's video first because it looked like Arun was going to be present a negative review.
Chinese counterparts actually destroy the nothing phone 2a in terms of value. Default software might be unmatched but remember that we are in Android OS and we could actually emulate or even get a better system than the one on the nothing phone based on our needs and wants. For the US market though, the msrp value seems pretty good but it literally falls apart when we consider carrier deals for apple/samsung/motorola/oneplus and this "good" msrp is actually still bad value. I know Arun is pretty crazy for comparing it flagships but every chinese phone aims to do the same thing though and nothing phone can't match the chinese market. The saving grace of the software and led gimmick will fall apart as I think it is literally useless

There is one deal breaker that just seems to be ignored at the moment: screen size.
I hear (from your own podcast) that Asus are likely ditching the Zenfone. This Nothing 2a phone is another whopper of a device that I just wouldn't be interested in, regardless of the price or specs. Do Android phones S24 size or smaller (with good specs) just not sell?
I absolutely LOVED the Pixel 4a and was hoping some company making Android phones would continue to service that market. Options feel really limited. Was hoping Carl Pei would channel his inner One Plus X feels here. Guess not.
That does seem like the trend now, nowadays everything is upsizing people want SUVs over hatchbacks and sedans when those are really what are needed for their needs; smartphones just seem to go into the same group.
I really want a phone under at like 6'1 6'2 size range; because for me and the major amount of general public snapdragon 695 peaked the required performance (minus the 1080p ceiling on video and some things here and there). It's just now that anything after that is just an attraction towards the big numbers :/
There's also people cribbing at dimensity 7020 is just dimensity 1080 but that's just it, that's what is the ideal power requirement after that it's just useless for the masses. Being someone who studies processors it really makes me mad at people spending money blindly for just numbers which they just aren't going to use.
Most people buy big phones. So that's why no one makes small one's. At the end of the day who wants less display and less battery life. Not to mention speakers being worse.
Trust me, you're not alone buddy, but unfortunately it seems like the majority of the crowd prefer larger size compared to a compact phone! :(
Compact phones appeal to me so much now, and it's disappointing to see our options whittle down year after year.
I've been using the OnePlus 7 for nearly five years now, and it's the biggest size I can comfortably hold. I honestly wanted the S10e back then, but I only opted for OnePlus because of its clean software, so I planned on buying a smaller phone after using my current one for 5 to 8 years. We need more competition in the compact phone market again, man.
Hi vidiq

lol no way. iPhones all at least are extremely powerful. This is not.
@@zethloveless7238I mean yeah, last gen flagship chip put in a 7 year old body sure is fast, but is overall a worse package. OP does have a foul comparison, I'd argue more that the A54 is the Android to a midrange iPhone with it's glass back and all that, or Pixel 7a with good cameras, wireless charging and a flagship SoC is, but overall the NP2a is just a slightly better phone than the SE3 when you look at the average score in every compartment.
