  • Today we take a look at our outdoor privacy wall we built for our patio makeover and also how Jess accidentally got hit by a stray nail from the brad nailer in the process. We also look at the process we took to build it, some mistakes we made, and some tips to help make your privacy screen absolutely perfect! This is a great weekend project that adds shade, privacy, and wind blockage to any outdoor space!

Love this! Do you have a video showing the needed materials for the posts to stand on concrete? And my walls are just vinyl siding outside - what would you suggest in this case?

We don't have a video of materials, unfortunately. The posts actually are just friction fit in place and then toenailed in at the top with long screws. It's been 3 years and nothing has moved. I'd say with vinyl siding you'd have to definitely find a stud. Or you could also buy a 4x4 post bracket that mounts in the concrete and then attaches to the post. Those are at Lowes and Home Depot. Hope that helps!

So beautiful. Getting ready to do one similar, only might stain the wood tan. What kind of air compressor do you use? Thanks for sharing and the mega inspiration!!! So glad your finger healed up! 🙂

Thanks so much for the kind words. We used a Bostitch pancake air compressor but we have since switched to a Kobalt Quiet Tech one on wheels. More portable and WAY quieter!

This looks amazing. Did you paint pressure-treated pine? How is the finish holding up after a year? I'm interested in doing something similar and worried about the finish holding up, as well as the 1x2's not bending over time in the first few months.

Thanks James, yes we painted over pressure treated boards. We also primed beforehand and made sure to use an outdoor rated paint. After over 2 years there is one small spot that needs a touch up but that's all. No bending either. That is due to shorter boards used as well as better quality. I'll try and do a Short video here on CZcams as a response video so maybe you could see it better.
