Vintage Vorwerk VK121 Vacuum Cleaner & Tools Unboxing & First Look

- I have been impressed with my Vorwerk VK200 cleaning system so I wanted to take a look at some older Vorwerk machines starting with this VK121. It seems a decent machine but when put next to the latest model, it does seem a but old fashioned.

Oh this is all so familiar to me! For 21 years I cleaned a large country house twice a week with one of these machines, well, after about 10 years it was traded in for a VK140. It was a good vacuum, very manoeuvrable and light to use. Downsides were that the wheels kept falling off and you have to swap the nozzles between carpets and hard floors. Those green air fresheners are much better than the later rectangular ones in my opinion, they gave out a lovely scent whereas I could never smell anything from those new ones. You pop them inside the bag. That funnel inside the bag is supposed to move, you put your new bag in, fold over the hinged part so the funnel goes into the bag , then shut the outside bag part. It was fun to see all those tools again!
One of the best Vorwerks ever made. The best iteration of a foolproof concept. It's simple and a breeze to use, cleaning well and very sturdy. We still have one in daily use.

A lot of the above floor cleaning accessories were made in Italy, where Vorwerk had its second biggest factory. In Italy they also produced accessories for the Italian market, like the floor polishers and scrubbers Pulilux that fit under the Kobolds like the powerhead.
It's a brilliant vacuum - I have been using my VK121 for 30+ years - still as good - was worth every penny of the expensive price at the time.
What a lovely vacuum. These dirty fan models don't have much suction, but they do have nice amount of airflow. Build quality is definitely good. I only have VK135 but I really like it. Very comfortable and light to use.

We had one of these for soooo long and it is brilliant, when you have carpeting all over your house, has a quite long power cord and it is definitely easy to push. :-D
I remember my mother's friend having a "selling party" for these vacuums as I dont think they were available in the stores here in the UK. I was only a child at the time but I remember the showperson vacuuming my mum's friends hallway carpet which was quite old and extremely flatten. After doing this the pile of the carpet had become fluffy again and looked like new! Really impressive, was nothing like it (at least to my knowledge) like it around at the time.

Love your vids and i‘m also a collector of vintage vacuum cleaners. Love Vorwerk and Electrolux cleaners. In the 90ies, i‘ve been commercial Agent Form Vorwerk and sold the 130, 131 and Tiger 251. think, that this model you have, was made in Italy, because the handle is different to the german ones. The switch at german ones is Directory at the top of the handle and not on the side, like you see in your booklet you‘ve shown in your video.
Roger the air freshener needs to be put in the filter housing before the bag, or you can just vacuum it straight into the bag
The scented air sachets are to be dropped into the filter bag container and then insert/attach the filter into its place. So the sachet is outside the filter bag but inside the caged filter holder.
Very lovely machine, I do want a Vorwerk and they are very rare to find in the US.
Here in Germany You littlerally get broken ones trown after You at flea markets. Often they are Not in too Bad of a shape. Mostly blockages INSIDE of the cleaners behind the Filters. At least that was the Case for my tiger 251.
I have two Vorwerk VK122 and I have loads of spare brushes as I brought one from my old job and it came with loads of bags too

I've got also a Vorwerk Kobold 121 Upright Vacuum Cleaner from the Year 1991. I got this one since September 2017
I'm still using this model which we got in 1993 along with the dry cleaning head. The head could probably do with replacing soon though, so I hope I'm going to be able to source one somewhere. I used to work for the company at the time. I'll buy a new model one day. A bunch of us went on a trip to Amsterdam with Eric.

Love these modular Vorwerk home cleaning systems! My only complaint would be the lack of LED headlights on the newest model - or even an LED spotlight on the hose handle. For the money they charge, this helpful feature should be included as Miele does on their high end vacs.

It's normal that the brushes have some play. The sound comes from plastic straps and threads around the brush. The unit itself is alright.
you can let the handle intake snap in on the VTF 732 - just give it a go, you won't break it - so that the unit can stand upright. Look up the manual. In the video you have used it in storage mode.

what's the serial number? First 2 digits = year, next 2 digits = week, then model code (25 = VK 121), then production series (e.g. 21 would mean 21st iteration. every change within production is tracked). Thus e.g. 9331 would mean 31st week of 1993.

i collect Vorwerk Vacuum Cleaners. my Collection as for now are: Tiger 251, Kobold 121, And a Kobold 131. Alltough im missing the handle for the 131. +Maaaany hoses and nozels, some adapters.

Nice machine. Try some tape on the hose end or try the gauge on the machine with an attachment.
I entirely agree on the bubble-wrap packing. OMG why? But please buy a simple packing knife; it is far safer.
I have a VK 122. Your toolbag is from a more recent model. The carpet head has been murdered, but replacements brushes should be easy. The handle length can be adjusted, which is nice for taller people.
"British racing green" does seem an odd colour choice for a German vacuum that's partly made in Italy!

Maybe that brush that you were confused about could be for upholstery or stairs for the dry carpet cleaning.
Unlikely she has personally vacuumed Buckingham Palace with them.

How do I figure out the best power converter
It's a shame that the pn is such bad shape. I have three brandnew ones that I got from Ebay and one made in 1989 which has seen minor use, and that's also the one I'm using on a daily basis. Recently I found a brandnew VK121 with ET340 and accessories, made in 1989. One day I will actually use it, as it would be a shame to just let it sit in the closet.
I sold Vorwerk vacuum cleaners when the VK120 was the current model and I still have it and use it for all my cleaning. I also bought a VK121 while I still worked as a salesperson for Vorwerk but the motor gave out. I live in the USA and would like to purchase a new Vorwerk however, I am not sure the electrical volts/wattage is compatible in the USA. Do you happen to know anything about that? These are the best vacuum cleaners!

I bought one based on Roger's review and it's great, definitely recommend it if you have pets and don't like bagless vacuums.

There are a number of online sites in the UK such as eBay, Amazon and many many more that sell spares and parts for Vorwerk machines. If an internet search can’t find any, then you probably don’t live in the UK or Europe.

You don't close not eather this one correctly, ypu have to close the plastic part on the bag and then close it, and yes it gona open and close the bag when you open and close it
