- While there are plenty of things that can -- and DO -- go wrong at the boat ramp (as evinced by the many CZcams channels dedicated to boat ramp fails!) -- never do these 3 things at the boat ramp. To ensure you have a fun day on the water, Lenny Rudow offers his advice for common things to avoid as you get ready to launch your boat. Have you done any of these? Or do you have your own stories of other boat ramp fails? Let us know in the comments!

Don’t block the launch ramp while you load or prepare your boat for launch. Need to load a cooler or grandma? Need to put out lines & fenders? NOT ON THE RAMP!
💯 Maleko! That's a good one!
Brother, that is the number #1 fail!! Read the room. Even if no one is around, you know as soon as you start to load up sitting on the ramp. Boats are going to show up. A little common curtesy goes a long way.
To the fail #1: applying the parking brake, I would add: switching on 4 x 4. I do believe it makes a difference.
Well Calin, we've never heard that this makes a difference in preventing unintended reverse motion, but it certainly can't hurt, and if you need to go forward, is sure to help! Thanks for the suggestion.
@@boatus I should have been more precise when I said about putting in 4 x 4 is for driving forward, but you've got it. My mistake.
@@calin7017 All good. Thanks for the clarification. And it sounds like a smart idea for negotiating those slippery ramps!
Assuming of course you have 4x4.
@tedschmitt178 if you have a boat you should have 4wd too.
Always a good refresher before boating. Thank you!
Thanks for watching, Bierdaddy!
Great advice, thanks for sharing
You're very welcome, Paul. Thanks for watching!
great informative video sir!! i actually had my boat on the water ,not had the drain plug in.Fortunately i realized that and went right back to the ramp to fix the issue. But yes these things can happen anytime to anybody..thank you
Thanks for watching, Joe. We like to say there are two kinds of boaters: Those who have forgotten to put the drain plug in and those who will forget! You are certainly not alone, and good thing you caught it before you got too far.
Nice - i walk a ramp that i am new to, to find the end of it. Also don’t remove the safety chain or the winch line to the boat until in the water.
Always solid advice, Nicholas! Thanks for watching
THat is the Marina I keep my boat. Free if you keep your boat there. Decent prices for 6 month period.
They were super nice there, Darris, and generously let us film on the ramp. (It was a weekday, so no one was waiting.) We would have normally used the ramp at Lenny's marina down the road, but there was a lot of noise from construction, so we went with plan B. Highly recommended!
I don't think those cheap plastic wheel chocks would do anything to stop my truck from rolling down the ramp.
You'd be surprised; they're pretty solid and have some grip. Thanks for watching loonskisrt4!
$ 20.00 Ramp Fee WOW
Is that high or low, Dal?
@@boatussounds high, $10 is common in my part of S FL.
Maybe that's why no one else is around and they feels entitled to prep and otherwise futz around too long on the ramp. 😅
