Should I buy a rebuilt title vehicle? And what is the difference between "rebuilt" and "salvage"?

  • This is just a quick video explaining the difference between a "Salvage" title and a "Rebuilt" title. This applies to Texas as I'm not sure what other states use for descriptions but I suspect it's pretty close to the same.

    I learned this the hard way. I bought an out of state 93 integra GSR from Idaho (super clean car ) with a rebuilt title. I couldn’t transfer it to PA because they wanted me to get an “enhanced inspection” which is what they call it here in PA. The shop was a Fraud , lied to me saying the car needed rear control arm
    Bushings and that the car was swaying all over the road. Which was total bull*****. I drove the car and there was nothing wrong with it. So long story short. He screwed me failed my car and kept my $300 enhanced inspection fee. So this must be something to be aware of to guys , if you live out of state be weary of buying cars with rebuilt or salvage titles depending on your plans like this guy mentioned Im the video. Always check with your state when it comes to buying a car with an out of state rebuilt or salvage title. You gotta jump thru
    Hoola hoops and then could possible get screwed by the shop saying you need a ton of work. Just thought I’d mention this , since I went thru this first hand. Ps. Do t ever accept or attempt to alter a vehicle title. Ask me how I know this ? You’ll get screwed and will need the previous owner to get issued a new title. Unless you got connections you can’t apply for new title that’s not in your name. A family friend however was able to get a new title mailed to them without the owner involved thru someone that he knows who owns an auto tags business. Don’t ask me how they did it. I have no clue. Sometimes it’s all about who you know. Also I wanted to mention, my sitter recently was looking to buy a car and we kept finding junk everywhere we went. Well we found a nice 09 TL with a rebuilt PA title. We had no issues whatsoever transferring title and registering it into NJ. The process was literally the same. So definitely check with your state before you buy anything with a branded title..

So basically this guy is lying to me saying since he requested a title replacement it is now rebuilt?????

    • @buxtonautosales
      @buxtonautosales  Před rokem

      Yeah, sounds like it. For it to be a rebuilt title that means an insurance company took a total loss on it. Sold is as salvage and someone else rebuilt it, got it inspected and then sold it. If he simply "lost" the title and it was in his name he can file for a certified copy of title but it would NOT be marked rebuilt.

      Body guy or body shop. You’ll have to do a bunch of body work straightening /bondoing/ welding /painting etc. some damaged cars might require a frame pulling machine that they use at body shops to straighten shit out.

    Good video.........just disagree with one thing.......don't just assume that your teen will wreck the car they get. I never had an at-fault accident in more than 52 years of driving........right now in the U.S., car accidents are the #2 cause of death of teens. It used to be #1, but with all the fentanyl and opioids let into the country now, the drug deaths have surpassed car accidents. (my teen's best friend died at 16 because of fentanyl) Let's hope that our teens are defensive drivers and don't risk an accident. The statistics aren't good. I would just hope that they are driving a mechanically-sound vehicle.

Now that I think about it. I’m pretty sure my moms Bmw I was using for Lyft had a rebuilt title. I was using that was during the beginning of the pandemic though so god knows what they’ve changed by now. They were allowing all
      Kind of shit and even rolled
      Back the car year requirements to get more drivers because of the extreme shortage. I remember how bad it was. People told me they weree waiting 3-4 hours for a ride In some cases. Some even scheduled a day in advance and still had to wait. Lol
