    Thanks for the video. I’ve made six of the slinky two tone indicators for a Wyoming trip I will be leaving on in less than two weeks. I hope to give my soft hackle flies a try with your indicator. Thanks again

    I have never seen the slinky before not only does it look effective but easy to use. I'll have to pick some up from my favorite fly local shop.

    I have never used a indicator drifting soft hackles, but I do like that slinky , I wonder if it would work well with nymphs. Nice job.

    Thanks for the good video. I think that the indicator would be more useful - almost necessary - when upstream wet fly fishing, because in that case bite detection is the greatest problem. We are used to watch the point of the line.

  • @abeyoffe
    @abeyoffe Před 5 lety +2

    Couldn't you fish soft hackles just like dries (and not mess with the indicator) and be effective because trout eat below the surface even more than on it?

    • @newflyfisher
      @newflyfisher  Před 5 lety +2

      That is certainly an option but the reason he uses the indicator are to detect those very soft takes that often happen with soft hackles just below the surface. Thanks for the question

      I agree there is no need for indicators, its lazy and breeds bad habits. Also more knots equals more weak points on your leader. These are really just videos designed to extract your money, and boy are Rio really expensive.

    インジケーターなんて、浮きつけないで、リ―ダ―とか、ティペットに浮力材塗って、リ―ダ―の動きで合わせたら、キャスティング練習の時には、そんな物付いてないんだから!シンプルに行こうぜ、シンプルに。

    If an everyday fly fisherman followed everything this guy said they'd go broke the first time to the shop. Dont waste time buying fancy leaders and indicators. Learn to use what you have.

    • @heljos2487
      @heljos2487 Před 5 lety +1

      A basic indicator is necessary for people learning to nymph. It helps you to learnwhat a rock vs a fish feels like. I know when started I missed dozens of strikes because I didn't use an indicator when nymphing.
      But yeah you don't need a ton of stuff to get started. Also having one spar spool with sinking line is really helpful as it opens up a lot of opportunities.

    • @gunslinger270
      @gunslinger270 Před 5 lety

      @@heljos2487 granted. But I dont need a completely different setup for subtle differences in my presentation, and this guy makes it seem like you do. Not everyone can afford a new pole or 20 leaders every month.

    I'm sorry. Really? More gimmicks for what is purported to be the most simple of fishing methods. All you need now is a fish finder. I guess I just need to quit watching and keep my big fat trap shut.
