Hello I just came across your channel, hope you are doing great after a year since this comment was posted. I wish to dive in free lancing and I have 0 experience and I do not have a slight idea what the skill set for a beginner should be. Do you have a vid for that.
I tried to create but it challenged me kindly i need to help me.
I don't understand the last message... why not just have a parttime job that generates reliable and stable income and do freelance as a side gig? lol. So u dont have to worry about the uncertainties that comes with freelancing
"Do not compare your chapter 1 to someone's chapter 20" I like that. It hits me in the chest
Important to remember 💯
What book
But. What if the first chapter never ends
Josh 3 months back I started on Upwork by watching all your Upwork related content very closely now I am 5 of 12 week eligible for top rated with $2300 earned and yes one client can change your life it's soooooo true in my case hats off to your quality content keep teaching us these tips and tricks ❤️
That’s so awesome to hear! :) You’re well on your way to becoming top rated. Be sure to keep me posted on your progress. Great work!
@@JoshBurnsTech sure Josh I will update you once I receive my top rated status
Similar story also, started 4 months ago with his videos, 5k+ earned now with 2/16 eligible for top rated
@@omotosoabdulmatin857 AMAZING! Keep up the work.
Brother, what is your nich?
I watched all of your tips and applied them. After 7 months with very beginner skill sets, I am top rated with $3k+ earnings and many long-term clients. I can't THANK YOU enough, Josh.
WOW, that's amazing! So happy that I was able to help you get started on Upwork. Keep going! :)
Inspiring, what technologies do you do?
@@JoshBurnsTechhello
Hello! Can you tell me more about it? I'm thinking about starting freelance on upwork in the upcoming weeks and I'm wondering how to go about my portfolio. And what skill set you had when you firt started. I don't think my skill set is bad at all since i am an art/design graduate but it is a bit rough around the edges and idk how to overcome that. Another issue I'm facing atm is that I don't own any paid programs, I work mainly on krita and blender 3d (still a beginner in blender) but I used to render on twinmotion edu which I no longer have so I'm wondering if you have any free software recommendations as well? Thanks in advance!
What do you do exactly?
Around 10 months ago, I wrote my first upwork proposal by watching your video, and today I am a Top Rated Plus freelancer with 70K+ earning and 2 long term clients. Thank you.
$70k in 10 months is HUGE! Congrats, Usama! Keep going 🔥

how did you get your first job on upwork?
Hmmm
@@gilangzaidan8454 doesn't look real
This is just what I needed to hear. I've been dealing with self sabotage as a freelancer. I just started on my journey and I see that it's not all 'work when you feel like' thing. Nothing good comes easy anyway so I'm going to grit my way through
There are times when you will love working and days when you don't feel like doing anything. That's completely normal. Make sure you also take care of yourself (sleep, mental health, etc). Freelancing is a long term game. Be consistent and take care of yourself. :)
@@JoshBurnsTech Thank you Josh
A friend of mine told my about up work and I’d really love some to coach me about the job and how to go about it
Hey there, any update about your freelance job?
This is so inspiring, in fact it made me tear up because this is hands down what a lot of people need to hear. Being someone that hit rock bottom with self doubt I am moved by this video. Believing in yourself and the right mindset is really the key. There can be many failures on the way to success, thank you for reminding everyone of that
It's important for me to let everyone know that I've been through most struggles on Upwork. It's not easy and I don't want anyone to think that. We are all in this together and I'm super happy that this video inspired you. Thanks so much for taking the time to leave a comment! :)
Right on brother, you hit all the main points including all the subtleties directly, very important. Thanks as always for the video!
Thanks, Rick! Really appreciate that and hope you’re doing well.
Great video buddy! Nice to hear someone being honest and humble. Thanks from Bournemouth Uk
I appreciate the kind words. Thank you! :)
oh man! I love your videos, you messages, your motivation, I am so happy to start in this freelance work with all your knowledge. Thanks a lot.
Thanks so much for this comment! I'm glad that you find value in my content :)
Man I can hear you talk all day. You voice is soothing. BTW thanks for sharing your upwork profile, appreciate the transparency.
Glad you think so! LOL And you're very welcome. It's important to show you that I've actually been successful on Upwork.
Really well made video, thanks Josh. I`ve been on the freelance grind for almost 5 years now and the truth is that I feel it never gets easier. But honestly, apart from the fun coworkers and hangouts, I do not miss the corporate 9-to-5. I'm much more satisfied with my work outcome and experiences by being a freelancer, even if I have some slow months with little income, it makes even more exciting to secure new clients and surprise myself with new pieces for my portfolio. Much love to all the freelancers worldwide.
Hi Josh, I'm really glad you gave it to us straight with how hard it is starting out Freelancing. I'm very nervous, but I am confident in my skills, I've watched your video today for the first time. I am going to give it my all and put in day and night, failure is not an option. Cheers!
I love these kinds of content, they are just pure reality checks but with positivity on how to tackle in.
Good content, Josh, as always. Just finished watching your Upwork series. loved that, imma start putting the work in the next few hours, wish me luck :)
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed the videos in my Upwork playlist.
@@JoshBurnsTech much welcome and well deserved tbh.
Josh I just wanted to report that a few weeks ago I watched your video and took your advice to heart, didn't race to the bottom, chose the jobs wisely and filtered a lot of inadequate clients until I found one that gave me a long-term hourly contract. I'm just starting out and things look good so far, it's now up to me to work hard and make it worth my client's time. Thanks a lot. One client can chance your life indeed.
You've just given me more reason to keep going! I'm not afraid of the work!
The one way to lose it to quit forever. Keep going!

I'm really glad that you found my video! I've been there and know what you're going through. Keep pushing!
great video. You come across as very genuine and the information is very important. I really like the part about you talking about, not to sell yourself short, and that not every client is out there to take advantage of you and to keep that in mind. Such valuable insight. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for the kind words! I really appreciate the support and I'm glad that you got value from this video. 😀
Last part of the video is truly inspiring. I'm a new freelancer myself and now i understand there is still a long mountain ahead of me to climb. Thank you.

Josh, well done! Thanks for the reminder that comparing to others is horrible for mental health. It seems to be a trap almost all of us fall into. God bless.
Comparison is good if you use it for inspiration and goal setting. But can be extremely bad if it hurts your self esteem. Thanks for the comment!
One reason you've done well is your great personality, and your great attitude. May be remote but Im sure it comes through in your work. Thanks for the advice.
Thanks so much Kathy! I really appreciate the kind words.

Loved your video! Thank you! Just started Upwork. Got very overwhelmed because- you are right, starting with 0 reviews, 0 customers is SO defeating right from the beginning. Went right on CZcams to find help with just starting out... I'm very knowledgeable and good at what I do, but its so hard when you don't have a history on Upwork. Hi Josh, i'm starting to look into freelancing myself and i'm not sure how to handle and reach out to clients. How would I start a contract or agreement and what is the best way that you recommend to communicate with clients? Also keep up the good work!
Thank you so much Josh,I am pumped Again, I just found my direction 1 month back, after struggling for 3 years, and at First, I got 5 clients, this second month is going a bit low as I have not been able to grab more and I thought, I should switch back to 9-5, but your video pumped me again

Thanks man, this is the first time I watched your content but I learned so much, more than what I need to know. Trainings for freelancing here in our country always shows the good side of it but not the things that sucks, that leads other people like me into having an anxiety and thinking if I am not good enough. But what u said here is very true! Thank u so much for the ideas and heartwarming cheer ups u gave. U just got another subs, dude!
Even Still being just a beginner, after hearing all these things, i can say,

O
Truly one buyer can change someone life. What a point. I love this video of yours sincerely
This was a really high quality video, and a lot of good integrity behind what you're explaining for people. Thanks Josh and if you wouldn't mind..... Would you or anyone else know how to remove the hourly rates from Upwork entirely if we charge by project package? Thanks so much for all reading.
self worth is TOTALLY TRUE. I'm gonna share a little story with you. Started on upwork in January 22, barely had money to buy connects and thought the only way I could get a job was to bid low rates. Got this job at $4/h, YESSSS, 4 dollars an hour. I was mistreated and dealing with addicts so I ended up ending my contract after just one mouth. Client give me 2 starts but now, 10 months later, I'm top rated freelancer with 100% success rate and multiple clients and charging $20/h (thinking about raising after this video)
*Self worth is important*
This is amazing!!! Going from starting 2 stars to 100% JSS says a lot about your perseverance. Glad to hear you didn’t let that one bad experience deter you. And I def think you should increase your rate. 🔥
What an amazing video for begginers...tells the good and the ugly on a clear an honest manner.

You mentioned in the video that you always research clients and have a face to face call before agreeing to work with them. Does that mean you avoid the "consultation" and/or the "project" options for accepting quick work on Upwork? Thanks!
The whole Thing with "Freelancing is always seen only with the benefits" is very similar to Music. Everyone wants to be a rockstar, but nobody wanna deal with toxic bandmates, record labels squeezing money out of you, people trying to use you for fame that leave you once you fallen down again, Sleepless Nights in the Studio and the mental breakdowns that come from being not able to express the Song you actually want to write, blood sweat and tears of learning your Instrument to make something truly special…
All that is not seen. People just see the People on stage, having a great time being cheered on by the crowd.
Same thing with Freelancing IMO.
Very insightful video bro, and yeah it's true that freelancing is not for everyone, I also told a ton of people about Upwork and fiver, but no one made it big and most of them quit after some weeks lol, then they tell you that you are lucky lmao. So, guys stay consistent with it and you'll never regret it!
FACTS! It takes so much hard work and consistency. It's a lot easier to quit, call every successful freelance lucky, and blame the platforms. LOL
@Josh Burns Tech Likewise, and same applies to every other business and profession ✊Survival of the fittest✊

Hey josh, thank you for your video ,Im new to freelancing after 11 dedicated years in restaurant industry that left me with a torn knee cap, mental and emotional exhaustion. With a background check that stops me from getting hired as a manager again, and like I explain to everyone I cannot get my background check expunged or work “felony friendly “ jobs due to being arrested and charged for a homicide. It was a unfortunate event that haunts me to this day. I live my days now as a Pacifist, and i changed my life, but my past makes it difficult to build a future, and my present day is at risk.
I’ve always loved to draw, design, tattoo, and help others any way I can. I had windows 98 at age 8, where I played pc games like command and conquer. I built a website at 9 years old but people don’t look at me as a tech guy cause I’m covered in my own tattoos from face to legs. I tried selling my art as Nfts before but was scammed and accounts drained and i keep feeling maybe I’m not smart enough now to do any of this. I struggle wit brain damage from sheriffs who gave me a traumatic brain injury and witnessed them murder the next inmate they beat up after me. My past is one I wish No one experienced, and I’m just solely focusing 20 hours a day on trying get work or my first gig on any platform .
I just need a little bit of help getting that first gig. I tried fiverr, and freelancer and so far nothing . And going to try up work now , and I appreciate you sharing your experience and thoughts when it all seemed impossible. Ima continue trying , cause I’m at the point where my housing is at risk and I can’t let my dog experience what being homeless is like. My puppy deserves better and I buy him a warm meal before I buy myself one. Just thought I vent it out to help with anxiety . Thank you again have a great day and I just hit a like and subscribe
Thank you, Josh 😊
