Roy Orbison, single handedly protecting the world from being completely taken over by the Beatles in 1964
You do know he and George were in the same band later, right?
Hiso lo que Elvis no pudo lograr
Yes, until George's band finally took him over in the '80s!
Orbison was a strong influence on the Beatles.
It really shows how much The Beatles took the world by storm. They literally owned the years in which they were active like no one else. Other huge acts like MJ and Queen barely appear, which is baffling.
Queen didn't have worldwide hits often, well-known songs of theirs like "don't stop me now" only reached the top 10 in 3 countries, did they have hits? Yes, were they big? Yes, but it wasn't a band about making "the hit of the year"
I can't believe 'Thriller' isn't on this list. I'm not a big MJ fan, but that song was huge.
Billie Jean got place instead of it, you know they were in the same album, but considering the fact "Thriller " was out in 1982 and it swallowed the music industry, they should have listed it in 1982
@@jasurbeey_oo1111 if they can list The Beatles four times in one year than they would have did the same for Michael. Thriller may not have been as big worldwide as Billie Jean. It was probably number 6
This vídeo is not a personal choice. Thriller was released as a single one year after the album, by the end of 83. It sold a lot but since it was released by the end of a year, the total number got divided between 83 and 84, that's why it didnt made into the top 5 totals in any of those years.
@@paulosantiago7457 Besides, "Thriller", the song, was not a big hit, It was one of the last singles from the album, which everyone has bought already. It was the VIDEO which was groundbreaking.
Thriller is not good as you think when you have lesten every mj song
1964 was a turning point in music.
definitely, and it peaked in the 70s and early 80s
Then classy understandable, singing American hits. Now yelling, raunchy, low class, wild and uncontrollable thug American anthems. Time will show that later music gradually affected our society and communities in a very negative way.

The Beatles dominating the 60’s is just perfect
listening to that last decade was painful, it's a shame what happened to music and the world for that matter.
This list really shows the difference between what was popular at the time, and what's actually remembered. Some of these songs I've never heard, some I've heard maybe once or twice, and some are seared into my brain - and that applies to all decades.

It was fun to see that around what year I started recognising songs due to my parents still listening to them, and it was around the 70s when they were very young. It was also such a great flashback to all the hits I used to listen to as a kid/teenager from 2005 onwards, I recognised every song from that year on. Hearing some of them brought me back memories, like Hey, Soul Sister by Train and Cheerleader by OMI. Lovely video!
Madonna is unstoppable with 12 entries, hitting number in 1986, 1989 and 2000. I honestly shocked that Like a Virgin and Hung Up didn’t even enter this chart, these two songs are massive hits worldwide

I was blown away by the effect Elvis had, then the Beatles and Stones. Then along came ABBA, which had quite the run too! Madonna showed some incredible lasting power, as she remained up there from 84 to mid 2000's . Pretty impressive. Curious how you can see/hear music evolve/devolve (depending on your taste) Curiously, in the late 60's/early 70's no soul from like 4 Tops or Temptations, or the Supremes made the top 5, nor did Creedence Clearwater. @@petercena9497 they where at the gramys to perform one In 1988
They multiplyed in size several times after the black album yes

That being said I still side with your statement of metalica not being on everyone's lips until the black album
@@Thunderbolt3019 Metallica didn't really break to the big mainstream until 1991 with the Black Album. BUT, that album did prolly warrant something on the '91 list, either "Sandman" or "Nothing Else Matters." Wow! All these years I thought "I'm Not in Love" by 10cc was a Paul McCartney and Wings song. His voice is eerily like McCartney's. I loved the song "Winds of Change" by the Scorpians, but I never paid any attention to who it was by. One of the most hauntingly beautiful Rock songs ever. George Michael had an amazing voice. What a shame the only one of his songs that made it big was one of his worst. Listen to "Kissing a Fool" or "Father Figure" for a truly romantic, beautiful song. And of course, "Hand to Mouth" was phenomenal. Some really great music here.
Graham Gouldman was the founder/frontman for 10cc. He wrote quite a few hits in the mid-60’s. Between 1965 and 1967 alone, he wrote "For Your Love", "Heart Full of Soul" and "Evil Hearted You" for the Yardbirds, "Look Through Any Window" (with Charles Silverman) and "Bus Stop" for the Hollies, "Listen People", "No Milk Today" and "East West" for Herman's Hermits

I disagree with one don't let me be misunderstood was much better when done by the animals
The best decade. ABBA, Queen, Creedence, Lynkyrd Skynyrd, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Bee Gees, Boney M, AC/DC, etc etc. Disco Music + Classical Rock, perfection.
How is litterlly one of the best songs ever made 10th in that? bohemian rhapsody
With 2 or 3 exceptions, I couldn't care less if I ever heard the songs on this list again. It seems like the more popular a song is, the less I like it. Thank goodness for the zillions of bands that didn't get on the charts and into videos (and lists) like these.
Slade had 3 singles enter the charts at no. 1 in 1973. Not a mention. Criminal!
Slade never had any success outside the UK. This is a worldwide radio chart.
@@linmanfu913 Slade were highly successful in most countries apart from North and South America, especially early 70's.
@@hooplekeane2877 They were clearly successful, but their songs were not equally successful outside the UK, in fact, they never had number 1s in France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Australia, Canada, US, Netherlands or Belgium. It wasn't the biggest band in the world, it wasn't the Beatles.
Look at this beautiful video.
I noticed that the more and more we got closer to 2021, the worse the music got.
So strange, older music really seems to have more soul into it, better lyrics etc.
And more...
In 1991 the song “Smells like teen spirit supposed to be in chart”
1992:
#12 Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana

Having been born in 97 I was hoping for better. Way better music came out that year than what was the top 5. But, some good soul I guess it’s fine.
This was a lot of work and it was verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry appreciated and enjoyed!
Just, wow......... speachless. I get so much nostalgia, this made my day!!
I really enjoyed that! Thank You!
The best decade without a doubt was the 70s, follow by the 60ies.
This is an awesome list and learning what the worldwide hits were for over sixty years is priceless!
