- This video presents all number one songs of the 1980s ranked by peak, not by points nor chronologically. Please note that to be eligible for this chart, the song did not necessarily have to be released or charting in the eighties, but reach its peak position that decade.
Ties between songs were broken by considering these criteria, in order: weeks in the Top 10, weeks in the Top 40, and weeks on the entire Hot 100 Singles chart. However, the video only shows the year it reached number one and each song's peak position.
This channel does not own the songs and the video has been created for research/information purposes. If you like a song, please visit the official artist channel or purchase/stream the song on your favorite platform.
Thanks for watching! - Hudba
I'm 49 and I was a teen during the 80s. Amazing times and music
Best decade to be a teenager!
Was in my thirties and cant remember a better time for the music I still love to hear!!
64 and was a young adult on my own for the first time in the 80s. Still look back fondly at that time.
@@LolaClo Indeed it was. We didn't realize at the time, though, how so very unique a decade it would turn out to be for music.
I was born in November the 18 1982
By far the best decade of music
Nah, very comercial, 70s was better, more creative
This makes me want to cry. I was born in 1971 and lived my best life in the 80s. This music brings back so many amazing memories of living during that time. What a great time to be alive!!
hey Denise I bet you were like me , knowing all the words and singing along and travelling back in time , we were there , we were so lucky.
Moi aussi 1971 !!
J'ai l'impression que la décénie 80' est la meilleur de toute !!
80s the best
71 babies rule 👍🤟✌️
Denise - same feeling with me (1972), the best years in human history..
Every song has a special place for me. I am 65 and remembering every one of them since the 70s
The best years of my life. Hearing them again is like meeting an old friend.
My god we sure had it good back then. What the he'll happened??
Thank God these were my teen years.
R.I.P. to the 80s artists who are no longer with us. Thanks for all the great music. Your music lives on. 🙏🏼
Wow😮
What a time to be alive.
I 💕 the 80s. 🤗
I’m now 57 🔔 Classic times indeed to have been young 🌈

Born in '75. 80's and 90's!!! Best years ❤
So agree with you, I was born in 78 and love 80’s & 90’s music, and I’m a huge Samantha Fox fan❤️
Me too ! End of 75 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌 How awesome! ♥️♥️♥️
Me Too ! Born 1977, and i miss the 80´s
Same here. Best of music compared with all others...
High 5🤚
80'S forever, forever, forever,..........
God I miss this time in music. I don't know that any of us at the time fully appreciated the true diversity of sound we had.
We didn't care what country you came from, what language you sang in, if you were a little country , a little rock n roll or anything in between. We loved and supported the artists with our hard earned pocket money and wages regardless of who they were because the music was all that mattered in the end.
Sure doesn't fit with the everything was racist narrative.. if anything were more diverse than ever.. but the left are disgusting and evil.. keeps them in power to push that bs
@@mattr8251 It's funny I look back at music videos from the 60s,70s and 80s and constantly see people (not races) loving and supporting the music, don't get me wrongI know there were issues. But now everyone is so divided, angry and bitter, and I hate that governments and tech giants around the world are pushing the hate.
It is just like the 70s too.

I'm 18 and I absolutely love 80s music. My fav band is Huey Lewis and the news
1988 was a big year for George Michael. RIP. Died way too young.
My teen years!! Every song on here is amazing!! The 80s definitely had the best music of all time!!
RIP Olivia Newton-John, my favorite female solo singer of all time, and the owner of the #1 single of the 80s on the US Billboard Hot 100! 🌹
I totally agree with everyone who commented. The 80s era was unlike any other. I hear these songs again & can actually remember the lyrics. I absolutely love, love love this music.
when the best years of your life pass in 23 minutes 😓
I feel you...all the way
I missed out since I was born in the late 90s
It feels like they really went by in 23 minutes. Time did fly when it was fun . Eddie Money’s “I Wanna Go Back” kills me now, he nailed it. 😭😭😭
@@ladystrange7791 That song puts tears in my eyes, especially if your listening to it and looking through your yearbook...
@@CarLover-hk2nr same except it was 2002 for me
I may have been a teen of the 70s but the 80's were when I really came of age! Oh how I miss the 80's music! Awesome 😎👍
For me the 80s was the golden decade of music
AMEN to that!
Me gusta toda la música de los ochenta
Maybe not for music, but golden decade of our life.. When life is just for fun...hahaha .. 70s born here btw..
@@guzzingooth4977 Late 70s and early 80s was pretty amazing for innovations, new sounds, new genres. Punk, metal, New Wave really just taking off. Also give a shout out to 1986, also a really good year for music (and movies).
ENG: Also the music from 60's and 70's... there is not way to compared with the music of last two decades (without computer today are nothing for to composer), and the ranking in theses time was for records sell, no for click in youtube or listened on spotify...
The 60s, 70s and 80s... the best music and best times ever. Pop music went downhill in the 90s and never recovered. 😎
Bueenissssimos clásicos
That is a fact. Tell these kids
@ William Rowlands: Are you sure you're not me in disguise, William? This is exactly how I feel!

You are absolutely right!
After watching this it reaffirms why I love the 80's music.
Best music ever! Loved being a teenager of the 80's
I was dancing, singing, and sometimes crying to this awesome mix.
Oh the 80's sweet memories reminds me of university days. Great songs , great films , great cars , simpler life , sincere friends , no fake social media. I feel like crying. I wish I could go back.
Oh my lord.... So awesome I miss my childhood 😭
Hall and Oates made their mark in the 80's for sure!
@ted ritola True
Dan Hartman, too. 😊
Hall and oats was played to much also and one time is to many times. Not a fan.
One of if not the best duo in the 80's. I loved their sound they had.
'The Living Years' - Absolute bloody classic, love it so much!
Damn hearing these songs gave me chills, brought back so many awesome memories
MJ owned the 80s
Holy crap...can anyone deny the Fun, soul, funk, beat, and Awesomeness of the 80's?!?!?
I remember listening to all those songs when I was young. The 80s was a good year.
man..the 80s.. nostalgia with tears. the best years of my life, and the best music unparalleled.
Amazing that "Escape (The Piña Colada Song)" was the last hit of the 70s, and the first hit of the 80s.
Pure 80’s treasure , the best era of music
Answer my question
Greatest decade in music history 👍
I got tears running on My cheek.
Oh my God the memories! I have lived through 60s 70s 80s and 90s music and I feel so very blessed everyday to have experienced such pleasure! I stopped listening to music in the Millennium because it just isn't music anymore and when hip hop and rap came into play, that was it for me.
@ 70sGirl: I stopped listening in the 1990s. But I agree with you on 21st century music although I do like George Ezra, Lewis Capaldi and Arcade Fire.
Great years for my all time fav group Hall and Oates ❤❤❤❤❤
Makes me feel like a teenager again watching these
This ladies and gentlemen is why I spent so many hours in front of the screen watching MTV. 📺 😎
They don't make great music like this anymore
22 yrs old here i started listening to 80s when i was 3 and still do!
60's, 70's and 80's were 3 great decades for mainstream music.
Facts
PERIODD!
It’s sad I’m a teenager now and not then
Today’s music is crap but 80s were golden golden and golden
My kids are in their late 20's. They grew up with this decade in our house. The 80's were my middle & high school years wrapped into one. We had NO idea how amazing life was back then. How could we? We were in the midst of the Cold War which didn't end till '91. So many leaders with a simple red button threatening each other with who was going to end the world. These hits & videos portray a lot of what was going on back then. Its NOT just great music, its a history lesson as well.
There were a lot of great songs in the 80s that didn't make it to #1, in addition to the 200+ on this list. I was a teenager back then (I just turned 54), and it was a totally awesome decade for music. Over the past few years, I've been listening mostly to music from the 50s through the 80s, some 90s, and not a whole lot from the past 20 years. My taste gradually moved more left-of-center, outside of the mainstream, in the mid-80s, and that hasn't changed, but I know very little music of the last 20 years even outside of the mainstream, and virtually nothing that's considered mainstream these days. I've become a middle-aged fuddy-duddy lol. Live and let live, I say.
Lotta crap back then too, but much more variety to choose from. Not into pop, try techno. Or old school rap, or new wave, punk, country, discoish, etc. Now, unless you dig through the internet, it all seems theee styles: new rap, pop, and sorta country.
Taylor Swift is not crap
Simply the best era to grow up. How great songs can bring memories so clearly. This many so fast is quite an overload on the emotions for sure
technically that is called memory anchoring
Like going thru a photo-album of the mind..(also gone along with good music)
Still the best decade especially 85 to 89 🥰
The greatest decade ever!!!!!
I LOVE TO JUMP INTO A TIME MACHINE AND GO BACK TO 1980 AND DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN AND THEN I WOULD HAVE DONE THINGS DIFFERENTLY,BUT LIFE GOES ON AND AGE IS JUST A NUMBER!!! AGAIN THE 1980'S WAS THE GREATEST ERA OF ROCK/POP-POP/ROCK IN THE HISTORY OF MUSIC!!!!!!
I love 80s music. So much talent. Every genre has wonderful music. I cannot stand this so called music out today.
That’s called nostalgia no offense but I find merit in both hopefully aren’t mad
Listening to this, it is sad that so many great singers have already passed on.
Amazed by the number of great songs that reached no.1 for one week only
The competition was fierce.
Just shows you how good the music was then.
The memories. Forever trapped. Some painful horrors in here though. Still the greatest era for music.
Finally I found all my beautiful music 🎶 from1980 hits so Aha and amazed that I found true lovely music
Good times, good memories, lots of nostalgia.
How to be right back in the 80s listening to these without having to grow up through it 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Radio back in the day. Didn't stay at #1 that long some of them. Those that did got repeated play for a long time! My childhood in a nutshell! Love this! From age 2 to 11... Wow. Some were favorites for sure.
I remember pop radio back in the 80s would play songs heavily for about 2-3 months, then you would never hear them again. By the mid 90s they would play songs heavily for an entire year. The music wasn't as good and I would get sick of the songs fast.
Born in 64 and yes the 80’s was the best time !!
Best decade ever! Was 15 years old 1980 and the whole 80's ruled. I want to go back. Anyone who has a time macine?
I'll go with you I'm still preoccupied with 19 19 1985...today's kids I work with all say I'm uncool...
If you find that time machine, please take me with you
Take me with you guys...
All I can say about the 80's it was so freakin awesome. Thank you to all the artists and all the hard work for having the best decade of music
For sure!!!!!!!
80s music is the best.
… probably the best one of these ‘greatest hits from the 1980s’ video compilations I’ve seen yet.
👍👍
Thnxx to God I grew up all this marvelous hits..too young back then..this is all classic 80s gems..loved it here from the Philippines..👍📀💿💖🇵🇭
80s music is on point I wish I was born in the 80s
This compilation gives perfect example why the 80's is the best decade for music. Not saying other decades didn't have great music, but the 80's just hits different in a good way.
Yeah the lows of this video are higher than the lows of the 70’s mainly because novelty songs were less common
Waiting for a girl like you was No. 2 for ten weeks
70s 80s 90s were the best.Life was real and true in those decades
Haven't they created a time machine yet? It would be só nice to revisit my younger years, 80's, 90's and so forth..
YESSSS!!! MY QUEEN, OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN, MY ALL-TIME FAVORITE female singer. #1
1970s
1980s
1990s
I love music from these decades
👍👍👍
Thank you for an amazing trip down memory lane. You genuinely have no idea how wonderfully therapeutic watching that was.
I was 15 in 1980 ,so I lived this decade. Many of these choices "were not my thing" but have to admit they belonged on the list. Great song selection, brought back memories ,THANKS !
I love the 80´s
Very Best music 80 📀
Irene cara...what a feeling
"all number one songs of the 1980s ranked by peak" amazing work!!!
@ted ritola Lighten up, Ted:
*"Rock with You"* was released in late '79, which means it probably didn't see its strongest chart action until early Spring of 1980
*"Another Brick in the Wall"* - Ditto
*"Call Me"* was recorded in 1979 and released as a single in February 1980
All of these songs are easily searchable (which might've saved you a rant), but thanks for allowing me to use the ol' steel trap!
@ted ritola Rock with You hit number 1 in 1980 (DSTYGE peaked in 1979)
Me puedes decir que comentais jaja
No hay duda de que los 80 fueron los mejores años de la música. Muchos recuerdos al escuchar estos temas de mi juventud.
80's songs are simply the BEST! 🥰🥰🥰❤️❤️❤️
It's incredible thinking of the greatness of the songs and singers of those years, compared to the emptiness of the ones of the 21st century until now ...
A buffet of 80s music that'll never get full of may I have more please.ll
Hearing these songs brings me so much memories.. Whenever I hear Irene Cara's what a feeling it takes me back to '85 when i was 16..use to listen on the radio on BBC..nostalgia😢😢🧡
The 80s the best music ever, not just a few song Many great songs, pop, rock balads back then we didn't know the great music we had, the 80s forever and ever.
The best music is from the 80's!!! Take me straight back, thanks for a great compilation showcasing the 80's!!!
makes me smile and cry a bit at the same time. treasure every moment in life and dont take it too granted
This is the best compilation out there. Period. Some many of these lists are filtered(especially the eclectic 80s) through the lens of personal preference. Some go heavy on R&B while others tilt more to the rock. This has it all From the tail end of the disco era to the hair metal scene. From the King of Pop to the Material Girl and movie soundtracks galore to one hit wonders, this was well done
An interesting note about the Kim Carnes song "Bette Davis Eyes". It was number 1 for nine non- consecutive weeks. It was actually bumped out of the top spot for one week by "Stars on 45" and one week later it went back into the number 1 spot. Quite frankly a remarkable feat. Usually when songs get bumped out of the top spot they drop like a rock. That song by Kim Carnes is an awesome song and that proves it.
I believe Dolly Partons 925 did that earlier in the same year. IIRC, it was knocked out of #1 by Eddie Rabbits "I love a rainy nite" on 2/28; ILARN stayed at #1 for 2 weeks and then on Pie day (314) Dolly knocked ILARN out of #1. Then on 321 REO Speedwagon knocked 925 out of #1. Yes it didnt happen often at all in the 1980s, I believe Men at works Down Under was the last song that decade to do that around early 1983 to toto's Africa.. Of course in the late 70s, Chic's le Freak did it not once but TWICE - yes, it hit #1 on THREE separate times.
@@rawn4203 Same with escape from Rupert Holmes. Last 2 weeks of 79 and KC's please don't go was at #1 first week of 1980 then escape returned for one more week.
It’s a masterpiece
I will forever be thankful for our city radio station putting classic 80 s music like these , everythy siesta time so i grew up listening to them. 💜💜💜💜
All those memories of my younger years that the memories make me even feel the yrs that have gone by 80's never die & never get old can't say that 4 all those who are feeling your age when you go threw this list 80's never dies
I hardly remembered the song but its some thing like this " life ugne oun nee life to the school" do u know song like this ?
THE GREATEST MUSIC OF ALL TIMES AT THE GREATEST DECADE FOR LIVING OF ALL TIMES,1980'S.

😎✌Great work on compiling this together - it is very comprehensive..many thanks 🙏💛
"How can you hold what could've been on a cold and lonely night?"
Damn, just by listening to what was number 1 at any given time, I can remember who I was (or wasn't😥 ) dating during the 80s... I love music. I really, really do.
It's like every song had a real life meaning. I raised my kids on these hits. The 80's were my middle & high school yrs. wrapped into one.
These were the number 1’s. And to think so many amazing iconic songs that never went #1. Truly the greatest decade of music.
I was shocked to not see Thriller on here.
@@vickiedavie8306
Thriller only peaked at #4 in the USA.
100% correct. Just like the other poster, Thriller. I have watched Thriller every halloween since 1993 and it doesnt get old. There are so many, so many great songs that never hit #1 that easily could have knocked alot off the top spot its crazy.
The best of music was definitely the 80's. I love that I grew up on this classic stuff and it still sounds great
All that song in 1980 is all Memories times flies so fast some of them all gone
1980 you are the best
Love that I lived most of my teenage years in the 80's some of the best music of all time, lots of great times and tons of great memories......
The 80's was by far the best decade for music.
Not better than the 70s
i couldnt agree more :) and so much loaded of talents :)
This music brings back good memories I wish music was still like this not that garbage today
The 60,70 and 80s was the last of the greatest music we ever had
This music brings back such great nostalgia. Honestly, all I really listen to. I try listening today’s music and I find myself saying, “Alexa, play 80’s on 8” every time...
Great music then. Today we have disgusting prostitutes "singing" about their WAP.

Sigh memories 🧡 memories🧡 memories🧡 memories🧡 🥳 I was 8-18 years old 🤔 Miss this kind of music now a days 😢
For some of you that wonder why these all time great songs were only #1 for ONE week...that's how amazing the music was then.
Any of the one week #1's would last 20+ weeks today.
Yeah too many great songs at that time. Artists have to try harder to get to the top.
Completely agree!
Your damn right, today's music is the most awful in 60 years, I shut off from it, the only place it belongs is in the garbage can..it makes me puke..!!!
Just think of all the all-time greats that were NEVER #1. Like most of Fleetwood Mac's discography.
I am amazed NKOTB had songs that were number one for a week. This proves how competitive the 80s were
