It's actually quite simple... it's not so much about the camera as it is about being observed by another human... particularly someone you don't know. If you walked up to a group of strangers sitting at a table on the sidewalk and just stared at them without saying a word... you would get the same reaction. Awkwardness and discomfort. Now you add a camera to the scenario and there is the added element that this person will be observing you in the privacy of their home AND may put footage online where thousands of others could potentially see and judge them. Security cameras are everywhere, and there is no human being in that equation. Just a fixture in the environment, silently and passively recording that causes very little to zero concern or attention by anyone in its sights. SO equating the passive security camera to the active human operated camera isn't really reasonable.

I believe it may be time to reexamine the permit process that allows the Public Streets and Public Sidewalks of San Francisco to be overtaken by rowdy drunks. These establishments have taken advantage of and tried to exclude lawful citizens from using these public areas. Imagine a handicapped person trying to navigate through this crowded area. Is San Francisco a town where the public rights are sold out from under them by a civic government intent on financial gain at public expense? Inquiring minds want to know why this is happening in San Francisco.

I've noticed a trend that the majority of the complainants seem to be females. The males who intervene or protest usually do so on behalf of the females nearby. It's also interesting that people tend to assume the worst about your intentions, which is understandable but sad because it shows a cynicism and lack of trust. There is no indication you have done or intend to do anything nefarious, but that is the first place people's minds go to when they see the camera.
