IRON REMOVER vs WD40? | HOW TO REMOVE RUST SPOTS ON YOUR CARS PAINT

  • Iron Removers are amazing at dissolving embedded contamination on your vehicles paint. I recently had a customer reach out to remove some rust streak on their door and I wanted to test out something I had seen online.... Apparently, people use WD40 to help dissolve the rust build up and remove it on vehicles. In my mind, WD40 is used to break down rust and loosen nuts and bolts so I got the concept. Iron Removers are amazing, but they smell terrible... I put the WD40 up against my favorite Iron Remover: Reactive Rust Remover from Koch Chemie to see how effective it is... ENJOY!!!

    It's great seeing this comparison. WD40 has been the off road racers choice for noncoated (Paint or Powder Coated) fabricated parts for years. Design, Fabricate and test raw (using WD40 as rust inhibitor) then when prototype passes it would be chemically stripped for Powder Coat.

    I need to get some of that iron remover to test on the my Cybertruck. I see a thread popping up from people saying the cold rolled 30x stainless used on the Cybertruck is corrosion prone due to some rust spots some of the early owners are spotting after rain. But since I follow you and other detailers, I know new cars often has iron contamination. Especially when the vehicles are behind shipped via railroad.
    The Tesla service advisor gave up the timeline as my truck was completed at the factry in Austin, TX. He said it will be loaded up onto a train to be sent to Riverside. Then transported to San Diego. Would be great to do a decontamination video to show that there is indeed lots of rail dust all over the truck that needs to be taken off after one drives it home from the delivery center.
    I was gonna use the chemical guys formula I have. But now thinking I need to get the same smelly stuff you have. I agree with you, they all smell anyways... I rather it be effective when I need to use it. Probably someone like yourself need to get a hold of a Cybertruck and give it a once over and educate the masses. So I can have a video to refer to when I see the comments online. :)

    'May be corrosive to metals", that is written at the instructions on the bottle of Koch Chemie Rrr (I own it). Why is that? I didn't know that text before. So, we use Rrr to remove rust, but it could potentially cause rust? Rust is a kind of corrosion.

  • @jesstaylor2737
    @jesstaylor2737 Před měsícem +1

    WD40 Does work for minor rust stains but it needs to be left to soak for 15-20 minutes then gently scrubbed don't add fresh solution onto already contaminated it won't make any difference. My personal opinion I'd use WD40 on small flat surfaces where it is easier to remove only.

  • @BlackHawkPSU

    What is it with the color white and rust specks? I know many will say they are just more noticable on white vehicles, but that's not my experience. My friend has a silver vehicle that hardly gets any rust specks, next to none actually, and yet his white vehicle gets many. I've noticed this over the years with various white vehicles.

    • @imjoshv
      @imjoshv  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Ive definitely seen it on silvers for sure. I think with white (atleast basic white, not the pearls) is that maybe they dont take as many layers to produce compare to a metallic finish and because of that the paint reacts differently??? Just a thought because i agree, its always on white cars. Other colors get it too for sure, but white cars do seem to get it worse

      I just got some P&S Crystal Wash. it’s also a sprayable decontamination solution. Not sure what it smells like yet…
      The way it works is; you spray it into wheels with brakebuster over the top after a minute to agitate. Or spray dry onto your paint and let it dry. It forms what. Look like crystals and then you can wash it. Many P&S lovers really like it! Fun fact is they claim it’s an organic and safe acid.

    The reason this didn’t work is because it’s like using a rain coat to soak up water. You would put your raincoat on BEFORE you get wet instead of using it to dry yourself off. In the same way, Wd40 helps prevent rust by providing a barrier between your metal and the water. Once it is rusted, wd40 won’t do much to help that in the most effective way.
