      Breakbeat, big beat, electronic punk - hard to describe them with a single genre.

    • @goranh624
      @goranh624 Před 2 lety +1

      @@prodigy84bg they basicly work under breakbeat pattern..so it's breakbeat..they add bits and pieces here and there..but that phrase every1 throws around...like electronic PUNK

    • @prodigy84bg
      @prodigy84bg Před 2 lety +1

      @@goranh624 That's mostly correct, but some of the guitars in their tracks sound punk-rock as did most of Keith's vocals.

    • @goranh624
      @goranh624 Před 2 lety +1

      @@prodigy84bg yeah, i get all that...but PUNK is a genre of its own..you know..we musnt confuse these new kids that they are PUNK..you know what i mean ?

    • @prodigy84bg
      @prodigy84bg Před 2 lety

      @@goranh624 Electronic punk is not punk though - it's electronic music with a bit of punk sound and attitude. The foundation of The Prodigy's sound might be breakbeat, but overall they're about mixing genres and electronic punk is exactly that - a mixture of genres. But trying to describe and label their sound is futile, as it can be so many things, and that's perhaps the best thing about it.

    Saw them three times in the past...they were part of the UK rave scene in the early 90s then they crossed over to big gigs and festivals with dance/rock/breakbeat sound. Amazing band. Basically the prodigy is just one guy...Liam...who creates the music...Leroy and Keith..the dancers...and Maxim the MC... check out Everybody In The Place and Out of Space

    I'm seeing allot of Americans listening to British music, and allot of Americans exploring music beyond the genres they're used to. I think you're searching beyond your own culture and I think we're doing the same over here - to try and understand and make sense of life. Now that's obviously a little more deep then just listening to music for entertainment. I think you're actually shaping your brain and deepening your understanding of life by doing these reactions. We learn something deep by understand music from outside our social perspective because on the one hand, we discover new ways of being, new ways of expressing, new ways of telling, but on the other hand we somehow recognize in the music of a distant cultural context our own selves in a way - we understand someone speaking in a foreign language if you like, and that proves that there is something in musical communication that goes way beyond language. I'm not being romantic here - it's important, because we're evolving our own consciousness through activities like this. And I notice there's this ease of translation, somehow, between US youth and UK alternative/underground/grime/hiphop. This is new - it seems to be happening allot right now in America, more then ever, and alien genres no longer offend. It's worth becoming conscious of these things to see what is going on here. Often you American kids grasp British songs perfectly on first listening that we Brits even find difficult - I can think of so many examples. Somehow you manage to listen without prejudice and expectation, without self-consciousness and resistance, and you really grasp it, and in watching your reaction, we see our own authentic response: I'm not joking. I never disagree with these reactions. Opinions about music will always disagree, but just listening without prejudice and without resistance gives us the real authentic human response. Now that is a radical fact. Beneath our social conditioning, music is a universal human language, and it's our own social conditioning - what we were brought up with, what was cool, what our friends listened to, what was crap music etc - and what we think we should and shouldn't like: all this is our social conditioning, and it has always destroyed our capacity to get everything we can out of music, but I see this conditioning lifting in reactions like yours. It's an interesting phenomena. Perhaps as society destroys itself, its hold on our minds is weakening and freeing us to see things anew. Music is meaningless if it is just about hooks and entertainment. Music is a cross-cultural window into a human psyche which is culturally other, and listening destroys your illusions and helps you grasp on a deep level what humanity has in common, regardless of cultural and geographical origins. Basically, music is social, psychological and historical human document, not just entertainment, and there are some things we can only learn through it. Because of this, all music - no matter how ugly - can have value, so long as you aren't just looking for ear candy or entertainment.
