Firestarter was released March 1996 making it over 28 years old. This video was shot in Black and White to save money and the Stars & Stripes Jumper worn by Keith was bought from a Charity shop for only £5 (less than $10). The band is British, from Essex. The singer and song writer Keith was originally a stage dancer with the band (kind of like Bez from the Happy Mondays). This song was also featured in the popular Sony Play station game "Wipeout 2097". Sadly Keith Flint passed away in 2019 RIP.

They were from Essex in the UK, Keiths accent is a cockney (East London) accent. got out when I was in high school 1996 ! it was a big thing then. When techno was more upfront than now in my country atleast (France). Felt like this track got the energy of a metal track and it was kind of new to me, such high energy electronic music amazed me, as i've just discovered also Hardcore Techno. Coming from Eurodance it was a all new world opening in front of my eyes. still listening to this in 2024. You can also watch "smack my bitch up" (Iconic track), from older album you can check "No Good (start the dance)". And from later work "Spitfire"
When i was a kid this song singlehandedly opened my ears to stranger sounding and heavier music and I haven’t looked back since From metal to drum and bass and everything in between. ❤️ The Prodigy 🐜 Also one of the most iconic music videos from the 90s
Firestarter is from when they used to open/warm up the crowd for other groups. So the song is about putting a metaphoric fire under the crowd. RIP Keith, The true English Gentleman.
It's really quite amazing how much influence Prodigy had on so many different audiences and artists. It might be EDM, but these guys crossed all boundaries, they played at the biggest rock festival in the UK in the 00s and you couldn't get near the tent they were playing in, that was a festival of metal heads and they were one of the most popular acts to see that year. Their style, originality and heavy beats made them one of the most loved UK acts even in the metal scene. No one really knew how much they were appreciated until Keith passed away in 2019, the whole country paused. There were thousands of people at his funeral, every venue in the country was playing Prodigy songs for a month. Venues around the world held tribute events. Even classical orchestras were playing Prodigy songs in tribute. It was also not until after his death we learned what a sweetheart he was. He had this real rough and intimidating image, but everyone who knew him says he was the sweetest, kindest, most gentle guy who would go out of his way to help someone. It was a genuine loss when he passed. RIP Keith.
Also guys can’t believe you’ve not done DJ Zinc super sharp shooter, jungle classic! Starts off half speed like hip hop with rapping over it then drops into dirty jungle 😊 you’d love it ❤
DnB/Breakbeat Hardcore link to early Keith Flint & Leeroy Thornhill (Prodigy) was the track "ON A RAGGA TIP" - SL2 where they appeared as dancers on the video looking very different! The musical talent behind Prodigy is Liam Howlett (geek in a bedroom), he was in a similar scene with Aphex Twin/Richard David James
Track was actually released in 96, the prodigy have a knack for timelessness.. love you covering this stuff.. try Breathe next, though not sure if you'll be able to get the video past YT 🤣
Me and my mate got kicked out and barred from the karaoke for her singing this track. She changed the word fire starter to Fanny farter (we’re from the uk so you know that’s ur front bum lol) I fkin died laughing 😂
Hi all. Just caught this. Prodigy were amazing. They are a British band Beers and Bars. Now I'm quite old. However when I was nightclubbing in the late 90's. I can tell you you're absolutely right. When this song played Dancefloors went Crazy, Nuts, Hyped, whatever term you prefer. IT WASN'T ONLY PLAYED IN MAINSTREAM NIGHTCLUBS EITHER. PRODIGY WERE DEEMED as an ALTERNATIVE MUSIC BACK IN THAT TIME as well. Not long after Britpop from what I remember. But they're music is stunning, always has been, Always will be. Nice to see you guys discovering it too. God Bless you , KEITH. We miss you man ❤❤️👌🤟
The Prodigys original Line up Was Liam, the man behind the music, Leeroy and Keith, both dancers and finally Maxim who is the MC, Keith later became a vocalist for a fair few tracks before his sad passing
I was studying art at a college in London when Prodigy was a hit. The British had many great bands during the 90s. Notice he was wearing the American flag. He was bringing the sarcasm on to the Americans. Wearing the supposedly flag of pride, he's actually at the same time the devil behind all of these mishaps, defamations and war around the world, he is the actual firestarter. I guess that's the message was, from the view point studies of the Popular Culture. During the late 90s, some of the British artists or bands loved mocking at the Americans and the manifestation of the American dreams. The last Prodigy tour that I could recalled were in 2012 or 2013 (not sure) in New Zealand and Australia. Do check other songs from them too.
The Prodigy came from the County of Essex here in England, Keith Flint was the lead singer may he RIP. They had many hits here around the UK and were one of the most famous bands here in the UK and in the rest of Europe. Asking who are they is like saying who are the Beatles or Elvis, which makes us British and the rest of Europe laugh at American's, you do have Google don't you, you could look up information about them and it would tell you all about them. 💂♂️💂♂️🇬🇧🇬🇧🏴🏴🇮🇪🇮🇪
The Prodigy are an English band. Firestarter realised in 1996 is the first single from there third album The Fat of the Land 1997. The video was shot in an abandoned London Underground tunnel at Aldwych that was used as an air raid shelter by Londoners during the Blitz
1996, remember that CZcams started in 2005 and only a few years after near the end of the 2000s it started becoming really popular and labels started uploading music videos etc with the death of MTV and channels alike so most videos older than 2005 will be uploaded around 16/17 ago
That's Keith Flint introducing himself to the public as a vocalist. Before that he was a dancer. He talks about himself " I'm the bi*ch you hated..." And cals himself "firestarter","twisting fire starter" , as it was his job to fire up the public. RIP
When I first started working in Soho bars in the late 90s early 00s, my barber was the guy who gave Kieth Flint that crop. Met him a few times outside Cuts. Proper nice bloke - really cool.
They’re from Essex in England. He thought the stars and stripes sweater looked cool when he saw it on the way to the video shoot so he bought it. The track came out in 1996
They are from the UK The album this is off is called Fat of the Land and it released in 1997 The genres are Big Beat, Electronic and Breakbeat Hardcore At it’s time of release, it was the fastest selling album and went straight to number 1 in the UK and in the US, in fact it was the first electronic album to debut at number 1 in the US. It is 2x platinum in the UK and US and 3x platinum in Canada and 4x platinum in Australia. It was the album that is credited for popularising electronic music in the US The music video for Smack my B*tch Up was banned and the numerous reasons but one of the reasons given proved that those who made the decision to ban it had not even watched the video, I won’t explain because spoilers, if you watch it though, you will know what I mean, there is so much I could say about it but i would have to spoil it to explain it but let’s just say it exposed a lot of hypocrisy within a certain activist group, lol If you watch it, I will explain what I mean in the comments section of that video. I would say Breathe is my favourite song on the album followed by Diesel Power You don’t listen to Prodigy for it’s lyrical content, they are very basic lyrically but it’s the instrumental itself that you are listening to their music for
RIP Keith - Johnny Rotten was caught on camera breaking down when he passed - it once again recapitulated his trauma from Sid Vicious' death. The raw energy and intensity The Prodigy brought was insane to experience in the big clubs back in the day. The "hey! hey!" was sampled from Art of Noise's 1984 cult classic "Close to the Edit". Art of Noise are some of the pioneers of electronica. Fun fact: the video for "Close to the Edit" was filmed at the Highline in NYC before it was revamped into the bougie walkway it is now. Super quirky and fun, you should check it out. My favorite of theirs is a down tempo track called "Moments in Love", definitely part of my life soundtrack.
I remember them playing the video on top of the pops (a uk chart music show) back in 96 it blew my mind . I was about 10/11 years old. It got loads of complains and phone calls saying it was too scary for being on tv at like 7 o’clock
I remember sitting on my mum’s kitchen table listening to the chart show on the radio and this first coming on (can’t remember what number it placed). I was about 11-12. Just remember thinking “oh my god this is naughty” 😂😂😂
Firestarter is taking from the album "Fat of The Land" which is The Prodigy's 3rd and most celebrated album. Keith Flint, unfortunately committed suicide in 2019.
This is much older than 16 years old, The fat of the land album came out in '97. these guys were so far ahead of their time, people were still being inspired by it 20+ years later
Firestarter was released 18th March 96. The album was in 97. I was 16 and he was the reason I wanted my tongue pierced. By time I was allowed, Scary Spice was famous, and ppl thought I'd copied her 🤦♀️
Story goes that Keith bought the jumper on the way to shoot and why it was shot wasn't the healthiest places in the world (London) , Keith did what keith did, his magic to create one of the classic videos of all time.
"Where are these dudes from?" - They were originally from Essex in UK - Sad to say, I was the last guy to look after them as artist liaison in Auckland, New Zealand for their last ever show when they were all together as a group ... spent some time with Keith, Liam and their manager, in fact got him (their manager) hooked up with a legendary NZ surf teacher in NZ to show him the best secret surf beaches in NZ and he changed his flight to stay on to see these places on the other side of the worlld. Keith was in good spirits, he went running 10km every morning as he got up - he said I need to do that otherwise ill fade out at song 8 on live tours so i need to get my fitness up. He was focused and committed - got him aligned with a current NZ National allblack rugby player to do some fitness drill training and good eating that he got excited for - anyway amazing show - everyone in the band was was happy and pleased post show drive home ... their next shows were South America tour about 3 month away, post north hemisphere Christmas... So sad - just a number of weeks later Keith is self victim deceased The whole group are serious worldwide legends, changed the UK rave scene and built such a bridge between those who could love guitar rock music and those that could love rave music - opened so many doors for artists like Leftfield, Death in Vegas, Kasabian, Chase and Status- but I don't think you'll see another front man like Keith ever again - total rockstar - his own culture - untouched - and genuinely a gentleman - the epitome of . a . gentle-man - time for everyone in his path - so lovely to be around - I had not met him until this trip - still every greeting was like id known him my whole life - and I look after a lot of people - his warmth was no different to me of the hotel receptionist... You need to watch a couple videos - first - Smack My Bitch Up - dont just listen you need the video (prob not on you tube as it was banned - but look on vim e o - they have it) - amazing track and youll be surprised by video - understand the ban And Seriously - go back and look at their early rave stuff - like Out of Space - i think youll love it
How can anyone possibly even LOOK at this band and not realise they are not American? Let alone the accent, when have you ever seen an American that had the vibe of Keith?!
I have been living in the UK for more than 25 years. This song was massive before I came here. I remember as it was a song I used to play /dance to before I got here

❤️ The Prodigy 🐜
Also one of the most iconic music videos from the 90s
2:12 'when did this come out? 2008?'
No, man, try 1996!! This track is nearly 30 goddam years old. Always was and always will be a BANGER
Best band off the 90’s for clubs. Damn this track was playing hard in the UK at those times. Their other tracks are even better.
RIP Keith.
I think you now know The Prodigy are from the UK 😆 should check out their song.. Spitfire! 🔥
Also Out of space, Omen, Breathe and many more!
Also guys can’t believe you’ve not done DJ Zinc super sharp shooter, jungle classic! Starts off half speed like hip hop with rapping over it then drops into dirty jungle 😊 you’d love it ❤
My son introduced me to super sharp shooter when he was 18 nearly 2 years ago.. I couldn't believe I'd never heard it before and we're British lol
It was 1996 RIP Keith
DnB/Breakbeat Hardcore link to early Keith Flint & Leeroy Thornhill (Prodigy) was the track "ON A RAGGA TIP" - SL2 where they appeared as dancers on the video looking very different! The musical talent behind Prodigy is Liam Howlett (geek in a bedroom), he was in a similar scene with Aphex Twin/Richard David James
Track was actually released in 96, the prodigy have a knack for timelessness.. love you covering this stuff.. try Breathe next, though not sure if you'll be able to get the video past YT 🤣
You'll definitely have heard some of their other tracks; Breathe, Smack My Bitch Up, Out Of Space...
I GOT THE POISON!!! I GOT THE REMEDY!!!
I GOT THE PULSATING RHYTHMICAL REMEDY!!!
MAGIC PEOPLE !!! MAGIC PEOPLE !!! VOODOO PEOPLE !!! MAGIC PEOPLE !!!
THE VOODOO WHO DO WHAT YOU DON'T DARE DO PEOPLE !!!
Me and my mate got kicked out and barred from the karaoke for her singing this track. She changed the word fire starter to Fanny farter (we’re from the uk so you know that’s ur front bum lol) I fkin died laughing 😂
Saw these guys last November UK , ABSOLUTELY MENTAL!!! Got sucked into a mosh pit, thought if I go now what a way to go!!!! RIP Mr Flint 🤘🏽
One of my all-time fav bands.
We miss you man ❤❤️👌🤟
This is an English group and the song is from 1996
The firestarter was released in 1996
Keith Charles Flint (17 September 1969 - 4 March 2019) was an English singer
It's alot older than 2016 , it was on wipeout 2097 on PlayStation 1
The Prodigys original Line up Was Liam, the man behind the music, Leeroy and Keith, both dancers and finally Maxim who is the MC, Keith later became a vocalist for a fair few tracks before his sad passing
Song came out in 1996, and they are from England 👍
Classic banger along with all the songs on that album, definitely worth checking the rest 🤘
I was into The Prodigy from 10 years old first hearing No Good For Me. This album changed the metal/landscape forever.
Rip Keith flint
The Prodigy made so many classic songs, their first 3 albums are all perfect
Check out The Prodigy live at Glastonbury in 1997!! That was a show!
So luckily to see them before he died, BEST live show. Intense AF.
I seen these in 96. From essex England
The Prodigy are an English band. Firestarter realised in 1996 is the first single from there third album The Fat of the Land 1997. The video was shot in an abandoned London Underground tunnel at Aldwych that was used as an air raid shelter by Londoners during the Blitz
Oh shit now you've gone done it....your going to requested so many Prodigy tracks now and they are all going to be 🔥...R.I.P Keith Flint 🙏
1996, remember that CZcams started in 2005 and only a few years after near the end of the 2000s it started becoming really popular and labels started uploading music videos etc with the death of MTV and channels alike so most videos older than 2005 will be uploaded around 16/17 ago
I was 9 whan i first heard Breathe...it was mindblowing...now im 41,and still love Prodigy..kids today dont know what good music is
That's Keith Flint introducing himself to the public as a vocalist. Before that he was a dancer. He talks about himself " I'm the bi*ch you hated..." And cals himself "firestarter","twisting fire starter" , as it was his job to fire up the public.
RIP
28 years ago, not 16.
R.I.P Keith ❤
When I first started working in Soho bars in the late 90s early 00s, my barber was the guy who gave Kieth Flint that crop. Met him a few times outside Cuts. Proper nice bloke - really cool.
Nobody does dance / Rave / D & B like the British !
Too bloody right ♥️ 🇬🇧
they blew up the 90s through western and easter europe. so many songs to listen to!
I'm so impressed you're mining the UK sounds of the 80s-90s-00s. They're too good to forget
They’re from Essex in England. He thought the stars and stripes sweater looked cool when he saw it on the way to the video shoot so he bought it.
The track came out in 1996
They are from the UK
The album this is off is called Fat of the Land and it released in 1997
The genres are Big Beat, Electronic and Breakbeat Hardcore
At it’s time of release, it was the fastest selling album and went straight to number 1 in the UK and in the US, in fact it was the first electronic album to debut at number 1 in the US.
It is 2x platinum in the UK and US and 3x platinum in Canada and 4x platinum in Australia.
It was the album that is credited for popularising electronic music in the US
The music video for Smack my B*tch Up was banned and the numerous reasons but one of the reasons given proved that those who made the decision to ban it had not even watched the video, I won’t explain because spoilers, if you watch it though, you will know what I mean, there is so much I could say about it but i would have to spoil it to explain it but let’s just say it exposed a lot of hypocrisy within a certain activist group, lol
If you watch it, I will explain what I mean in the comments section of that video.
I would say Breathe is my favourite song on the album followed by Diesel Power
You don’t listen to Prodigy for it’s lyrical content, they are very basic lyrically but it’s the instrumental itself that you are listening to their music for
RIP Keith - Johnny Rotten was caught on camera breaking down when he passed - it once again recapitulated his trauma from Sid Vicious' death.
Came out in 1996, was number 1 in Britain seemingly forever. Got played at the 2012 London Olympics opening ceremony.
The Prodigy are legendary ! Those folks are one of a kind. RIP Keith Flint.
"Firestarter" came in the 2000's ...meanwhile my lil ass was jamming to THE PRODIGY back in '95
If you ever wanna check a live set from The Prodigy - Live at Milton Keynes it nuts!
Keith Flint also managed a race team at the Isle of Man road race each year and was extremely competitive!
RIP Keith!
Firestarter is taking from the album "Fat of The Land" which is The Prodigy's 3rd and most celebrated album.
Keith Flint, unfortunately committed suicide in 2019.
It was so great hearing school kids going around yelling I'm a firestarter, twisted firestarter. Good times.
This is much older than 16 years old, The fat of the land album came out in '97. these guys were so far ahead of their time, people were still being inspired by it 20+ years later
Firestarter was released 18th March 96. The album was in 97. I was 16 and he was the reason I wanted my tongue pierced.
By time I was allowed, Scary Spice was famous, and ppl thought I'd copied her 🤦♀️
I'm guessing the video they're watching was uploaded to YT 16 years ago
I wouldn’t say ahead of their time . The more poplar stuff was at the tail end of the rave scene
Story goes that Keith bought the jumper on the way to shoot and why it was shot wasn't the healthiest places in the world (London) , Keith did what keith did, his magic to create one of the classic videos of all time.
"Where are these dudes from?" - They were originally from Essex in UK -
Sad to say, I was the last guy to look after them as artist liaison in Auckland, New Zealand for their last ever show when they were all together as a group ... spent some time with Keith, Liam and their manager, in fact got him (their manager) hooked up with a legendary NZ surf teacher in NZ to show him the best secret surf beaches in NZ and he changed his flight to stay on to see these places on the other side of the worlld.
So sad - just a number of weeks later Keith is self victim deceased
The whole group are serious worldwide legends, changed the UK rave scene and built such a bridge between those who could love guitar rock music and those that could love rave music - opened so many doors for artists like Leftfield, Death in Vegas, Kasabian, Chase and Status- but I don't think you'll see another front man like Keith ever again - total rockstar - his own culture - untouched - and genuinely a gentleman - the epitome of . a . gentle-man - time for everyone in his path - so lovely to be around - I had not met him until this trip - still every greeting was like id known him my whole life - and I look after a lot of people - his warmth was no different to me of the hotel receptionist...
You need to watch a couple videos - first - Smack My Bitch Up - dont just listen you need the video (prob not on you tube as it was banned - but look on vim e o - they have it) - amazing track and youll be surprised by video - understand the ban
And Seriously - go back and look at their early rave stuff - like Out of Space - i think youll love it
Maaan this was from 96!! Uk Legends ,this track was Huuuuge ,RIP Keith F
RIP Keef
How can anyone possibly even LOOK at this band and not realise they are not American? Let alone the accent, when have you ever seen an American that had the vibe of Keith?!
You Dudes dont even know the accent? It is Pure 100% UK.
I have been living in the UK for more than 25 years. This song was massive before I came here. I remember as it was a song I used to play /dance to before I got here
Prodigy's Fat of the Land should be on that back wall fellas.
I was lucky enough to see The Prodigy around 2010 i think. They were unreal, i was very sad to hear of Keiths passing, he is a legend! They have so many amazing songs and have been a part of the UK rave scene since the early 90s!
The Prodigy is the best thing to come out of Essex
Apart from the A13 🙂
