I'm making a video soon for mine. I bought all metal drivetrain upgraded to a hobbywing brushless esc and run it 3s. It flies! By far my favorite small truck. I haven't installed the metal drive train yet. Waiting for the plastic ones to wear out. They have taken everything I can give them. I can't strip them lol. Nothing but 3s speed runs and jumps. Can't break this damn thing lol.

Awesome speed run David! 38mph on 3s is amazing. The 16889 is also my favorite 1/16th scale truck. Add some oil filled shocks and they are incredible for the price.
Thanks Ryan its definitely a great little truck, one day i plan to get oil filled shocks for this one and the SG1601, just greased the friction ones for now cause it couldn't be bothered waiting a month for parts to arrive 😄 Have a good weekend!

The brushless MJX hyper go buggy and trucks go 40 mph 42 mph on 3S. You'll have to check out the new truck that they got It's a drift truck that goes 42-43 now per hour on 3S. You'll like that. Nice little monster truck you got there.😊

Great cheap mods Dave. Impressive improvement in speeds with the bigger wheels and greased shocks on both 2s and 3s.
Ahh.. the good 'ol grease in shocks trick.. works wonders. A lot less bounce thus increasing traction, thus help in increasing speed 💥💯👍

Also look up the like real part number like name and change it by 1 Up or down can't remember but the one I got is truggy one and the other is this truck but bigger i think it comes with oil filled shocks and also has metal rear axles stock

Do you know of any tyre/wheel upgrades that are more monster-truck like? These seem to be a bit skinny visually.

Never heard of the Linxtech model but I'm sure its probably the same as this HBX model just rebranded, as far as tyres, these were just ones I had on hand. I'm sure if you look online there would be many options available, even from other Haiboxing models. Thanks for watching Vlad 👍🍻
will the 3s burn the esc on the hbx?
Santa brought me one for Christmas. Are you sure it's not a 28mm can? Mines the brushed and it's 28mm diameter. Plan on upgrading to metal shafts, metal gears and diff, oil shocks, new esc, transmitter, servo and a 4500kv 2435 can with 3S.
looks heaps smaller than a 28mm can, i have a few other 1/16 scales that have 2845 brushless motors and they are bigger than this little motor, cheers for watching bro👍

Hi mate - great video! Can I ask where you got the tyres from and how do you know what size battery will fit in the chassis? Seems like the ones I see on eBay are all too big. Any particular 2S Lipo you'd recommend with a good C rating? Thx
Hi mate the tyres are from a WLtoys 12428 desert buggy and i would look for a 1000mah lipo that fits with the highest c rating you can find, cheers for watching 👍🍻

Hi mate yes that surpass motor should fit, as far as the shaft size I’m not sure but it’s pretty thin, the stock pinion gear will fit though👍
Btw way its on sale so 80 dollar price tag wont last it also ships from us i think bc it says mine will be here in a week

Cool video and mods. I got the SG 1601 and those tires look sweet, will check them out. Got the oil filled shocks which work great! Noob question: I want to change the transmitter to a smaller one for my son: Carson Reflex Wheel Start. I am not sure where I need to plug in the receiver with this 2 in 1 esc receiver? Any help or link to a video will be highly appreciated.
Cheers for watching brother, as far as plugging in to this stock receiver, you won’t be able to man, you’d have to maybe buy a esc and receiver seperate to do that.

Looks a little Monster! 2 questions: Is that front wheel toe-out your personal preference/ and why? 2nd: Does it really survive the 3s? The wheelies are nice :)
Toe out is just stock there is no adjustment and yep the ESC and motor have been transfered in a couple other different rc cars now and its still running strong on 3s

Hello Perth, my car hbx 16889a pro when you give throttle and release it deviates to the right the rear wheels jump or hit, I don't know what to do anymore, it's not an alignment problem, it's checked, it could be bearings on the glasses? thank you. bangood won't let me return the car they are behaving very badly.
I have the brushed motor model of this truck. Do you know if I could just plop a brushless motor in it? Or use those batteries you are using. Super new to the hobby. Literally got mine last night. I'm about to tear the shocks apart and put grease in them lol
Yes check out the 16889 speed challenge I recently posted a few days back, my friend and i converted our brushed trucks to brushless 👍
You should try a surpass 5000kv motor… I’m getting mine to 26mph and it’s stock altho I have changed the wheels to shorter ones from the volcano 16 so I reckon if I put the stock wheels back on it’ll crack 30mph
I don’t have this truck anymore, I stripped all the brushless electronics and put it in 2 other cars before installing it into a truck a small feilun ft007 rc speed boat now

1500mah 45C 3sand yes I never touched the gearing, all stick except for the bigger tyres
Which type 3s lipo battery should I use for this?

Did you noticed if the motor ran much hotter with those tires/wheels? Did you add spacers or was it just a direct swap? Did the grease last in the friction shocks?
Yes motor got extremely hot on 3S after those speed runs and bash at the end of the video, grease lasted a while but i then changed them
Have you got a link or spec to the tyres and wheels that you used? Will any wheel manufactured for a 12428 fit this truck?
Would you recommend continue running on a 2s or worth the upgrade to a 3? Thanjs
Hi Daniel, you can buy these wheels from aliexpress, banggood ebay etc, just type in wltoys 12428 wheels and you should be able to find them easily, also i recommend running 2s if you want to bash this truck around because on 3s the motor can get rather hot. Hey Dave I just bought the HBX 18859a, with the brushless motor and oil filled shocks. What upgrades could I do to make it a bit faster?? Stock speed is around 40km, the company states it can do 53km.
Slightly larger profile tyres and a higher c rated lipo will make it go faster

No it’s still running fine, I do not recommend driving it on 3s all the time though. 2s is fast as enough for this truck as well
Did you looked inside the differentials? are they made of plastic or metal?
I haven't opened em up no, but I think they might have a metal crown gear and plastic inner spider gears.
It's plastic already broke 1 spider gear after few runs. My son was bashing it tho.
XLH q901/2/3 seems faster?
Nope not even close, this HBX 16889 is faster by 10kph on 3s over the Q901 I tested on 3s lipo last year. Thanks for watching!
Dave, I got the other wheels but can't figure out how to make em fit. What exact hexs did you use? Any help appreciated
You need to change to 12mm hex if you have much larger wheels like I have in this video, pretty sure I added a few pics of the way it is setup at the start of this video

Check the stock wheels like I said in the pic how I was surprised it ran 12mm hex’s, just remove them hex pieces from those wheels with like a flat head screwdriver to pry em loose and install on your new wheels 👍

Disculpen tengo mi auto rc que cuando lo prendo en el control queda parpadeando el bind mode y deja de responder el auto. Andaba Perfecto y de golpe empezó hacer esto. Apago y prendo el control y se conecta con el auto pero los pocos segundos es como q pierde la señal y auto ya no responde. Que podrá ser? Gracias!

Yep just a 3s and larger wheels, motor tends to get hot though so do at your own risk, in some cases the esc can fail too. Thanks for watching
I picked up the brushed version of this truck, if I wanted to go brushless, I'm thinking I gotta update the diffs? Metal gears are not in the brushed version, correct?

Yeah of course you can, I fitted a brushless system in one of my brushed ones for a 16889 speed challenge with some of my CZcams mates last year, videos are on my channel.

Hi, perth. I have a problem with my hbx16889a pro, I bought it new and when I raise the car and give gas and release with the car in hand, or raised it makes a noise as if they were bearings or the transmission shafts were short and then it has looseness . the car is new, do you know if this is normal?

Yeah that can happen cause the truck is in your hand and is not on the ground and the shafts are rubbing a bit as they suspension is putting the axles on a downward angle, whent he truck is on the ground the weight of the truck will straighten the axles so there is less friction. @@PERTHWESTOZRC Thanks Perth, it's an unusual vibration, it makes it when you give and release gas it seems to come from the cups of the axles as if they have a lot of slack due to the cup bearings, is there a better bearing? to fix this? I'm afraid I'll end up breaking the differentials. It also seems that the axles don't quite fit as if they were short. Another query perth!! the differentials of the hbx of this particular one only have 2 satellites inside, the wltoys have 4, is it possible?

No its stock, the larger wheels practically gears it up for more speed

Hi Travis thanks for watching, i bought the 3S lipo i used in this video from ebay a long time ago
I bought the same wheels but they have a female hex without any cross locks and the cars hub has the cross locks so these wheels do not work
They do work buddy, you have to use the original hex from the stock wheels then swap em over to the WLtoys wheels thats all, i explained and showed photos in the first minute of this video.

Just wanted to know it's says 7.4 volts only on the esc. It would be cool to run it on 3s but I don't want to burn it up.
Yeah I don’t recommend it for long term use, I was only trying out speed runs to see how fast it can go in this video
