Absolutely impressive that a 1997 Volvo can keep up with the new sports cars, I dayly drove a modified Mustang 1994 385 hp and was beaten by a volvo 850 T5-R (The yellow one) so now I drive a Volvo 850-R 1997 heavily modified to approx. 500 hp, (not much if you live in sweden). Yet it is fun to meet the BMW M Series and Audi RS on the highway, this old Volvo station wagon goes about 325 kmh according to gps. Of course, the undercarriage is modified with Bilstein shock absorbers, springs from Eibach motorsport and so on and so on ............
As strange as it might sound, the estate version has an excellent chassis and is very very precise on cornering! Add to that a very good pilot and the result is here for us to watch.
have this circuit memorized from the old Moto GP2 days! lol Those last two tight turns before the stadium/finish line always catch you off guard as you're eager anticipation of the finish line is so close by!
I’ve always had a soft spot for these Volvos, some people round the corner from me had two cars in their driveway, a yellow 850R estate and a Lotus Carlton, the Carlton had kids seats in the back. I once saw the mother smoke an E36 M3 from the lights in the Carlton with the children in the back! Cool Family 👌
Bei MR-Sweden-Motorsport haben sie auch so einen 850 R für Spaß auf dem Nürburgring. Da hatte ich vor 20zig Jahren mal meinen C70 umbauen lassen, schön Schmidt VN Line mit Radinox Betten und Supersprint Auspuff. Das ding auch echt geil ab und der Sound war Göttlich.. Beim Verkauf hatte der 240.000 KM auf der Uhr.
What tires do you use? It's incredible how much grip you have not only on front but also on rear tires. And verry good racing habbits. The way you behave during braking and positioning the car before a turn.
Orange BMW had too much breaking. He seemed to know the lines fairly well, but you were out-driving him, as you closed in on his bumper in the corners. Nice video. It's frustrating to get stuck behind someone with more power but not enough skill. Haha, happens to me all the time in the mountains in my Slobaru.

This Volvo 850R is a beast, that 5 cylinder sound so awesome, Volvo for life.
Normaly i see 850's going faster on the straight than the other cars, but you are faster in corners then an M3.. that's impressive!

I just love Volvos. They are the unsuspecting car that's a track assassin when tuned properly and beautifully.

Do what I did and buy a FWD V70R. Its basically just a facelifted 855R and costs considerably less. (For now!)
@@BlueXonar That's a good shout. I do prefer to pre facelift and plastic trim of the 850 but a V70r would make a great substitute

Hi, I use Kumho V70A hard compound 215/40-17. Love them!
