    Yep. I did this with store bought green onions but with soil and consistently grew them. With inflation being what it is I'm growing everything I can in my apartment

    I've done this dozens of times and 4 out of 5 end up bolting (sending up a flowerstalk.) When this happens, the stalks become a little tougher and not quite as sweet as the original plant was. That doesn't mean that you still can't get good use out of them tho. I usually harvest what stems are usable then chop and can it in jars. It makes a wonderful addition to braising liquids. It can also be canned in combination with other vegies for a quick little pot of soup anytime you're in the mood for one. Of course, you can always let one actually go to seed so you have fresh seed for next year's garden. It's a great way to get more value for your money to re-grow them.

    We juiced a bunch of celery daily to extend Mom's life after pancreatic cancer research....7 month survival was the norm...she lived almost 2 years....(ovca remission off and on 13 years)
    Juicing orange apple and celery bunch also brought us our 250 range cholesterol level to ~200.

    I've done this and kept it growing all winter in a south facing window. It works :D . This year I"ll be doing more celery plants and I'm going to try it with leeks too. I will try sweet potato greens and I still have green onions from last year doing well inside. Thanks for the sweet potato idea.

      Great ! Question for you, can I take the rooted stalk and put it in an indoor planter indoors facing south ? It’s too cold to put it outdoors yet, thank you !

    I love celery juice! It's also good with a sprinkle of Tajin seasoning :) I learned a lot of your same growing techniques from my parents while growing up. We usually had zero waste, a compost pile, manure from our livestock, and we saved seeds! Trial & error is also a great teacher. I appreciate your channel; always relaxing to watch and new things to learn. Blessings to you and your wife :)

    Just call it a plastic tray, don't say kitty litter because I immediately blanched at the thought of fecal matter and urine in there with my celery. Actually, glass would be a better choice since plastic likes to leach into just about anything it comes in contact with.

    I WANT TO SEE IT FULLY GROWN. I've been told that only leaves grow from end not the celery stalks themselves. No CZcams video that says you can re-grow celery from the end show the end growing celery itself.

    I did this last year. Why do I get thin stalks, not nice large stalks that you get from the store?

    • @plantabundance
      @plantabundance  Před 3 lety +2

      More than likely the plants were dehydrated. Celery is around 90% water. It needs more water than most other vegetables in order to grow large healthy stalks.

    • @mato3401
      @mato3401 Před rokem +2

      Binding the stalks together in a closer bunch can lead to thicker, fuller stalks. Use twine or vegetable ties

      Although you can plant it all the way up to the new growth, I recommend going about halfway up the old stock and finishing off with mulch up to the new growth.
