    It depends on droplet size and if it sprays on low rpm. Small drops and high rpm use don't allow puddling and results in little to no damage two the wheel.

    When you hear the compressor surge and the water gets flung backwards, note how the compressor doesn't stall, spin backwards, or any of that other bullshit people tell you BOVs are necessary for.

    • @TihanPelser
      @TihanPelser Před 3 lety +23

      That's not what compressor stall is though. It doesn't actually 'stall', i.e. stop moving... It has to do with the flow and pressure gradients past the blades

    • @johnathanbalmer
      @johnathanbalmer Před 3 lety +26

      notice how the water came flying back out of the turbo inlet. while the compressor wheel is still trying to force it the other way. thats the problem. not that a compressor wheel changes direction.

    • @Kj16V
      @Kj16V Před 3 lety +6

      @@TihanPelser I know, but this is what most people mistakenly think "compressor stall" means. They don't know that it means stall of laminar airflow across the compressor blades.

    Dont know why :D aircraft use pre-compressor water injection with no problems, for radial or axial compressor. And since it works, youre wrong :D or you suggest GE or RR dont know what are they doing? :)

  • @007Kellam

    I don't see this as a problem. Maybe if you injected it before it spooled up, but its moving air fast enough the water doesn't have time to sit

      It's only used to lower intake air Temps, makes the air a little more dense especially when the solution is vaporizing into more oxygen molecules

    Not supposed to do this, 10 years later no one really does this method. Issue is pooling in the lower pipes & intercooler, it's been shown you don't want to spray pre-ic but post, & only so far from the tb.

    • @sparkster_6087
      @sparkster_6087 Před 3 lety +2

      Wrong, you can definitely spray before a turbo, but you are not spraying to add fuel or to increase the humidity past 100%. The pre turbo/ compressor injection is to cool the turbo. The amount that is injected is supposed to be very small so it only gets flash heated and does not contact the turbo. The main amount of spray that you would do is just before the tb as you said, but small amounts pre turbo is beneficial

    • @Blakelikesfood
      @Blakelikesfood Před 3 lety

      @@sparkster_6087 Yeah, you can do anything you want but that I'm talking in comparison too. You never see this anymore this video is 10 years old...in addition I've already spoken with the largest injection manufacturers, this is why their systems and just about ever system is post ic.

    • @sparkster_6087
      @sparkster_6087 Před 3 lety

      @@Blakelikesfood Agreed, you dont see it at all. It takes more effort to find what the proper amount is to be helpfuland not detrimental. With a fogging nozzle instead of the nozzles that come with the kits(terrible at uniformity) it can be very good still. Just a very small amount is injected. You can do it with a simple block and a secomd nozzle with a fogging tip. It isnt worth it to them to sell something that can be brute forced and make them less money too.

      Why would an engine with no throttle plate need a bov?

    • @JosephArata
      @JosephArata Před 3 lety +1

      @@torentmonkey compressor surge off throttle still occurs on diesels, especially with VGT turbos. You're asking 40 PSI to magically go somewhere when you remove the compressor power producing the pressure in the first place, where does all that excess pressure go? Place of least resistance, which is back out the other side of the CAC and towards the turbo discharge. Modern diesels run moderately higher valve overlap than they did 20 years ago due to high pressure fuel systems and VGT turbos that can produce 10-20 PSI of boost at 1k-1.2k RPM without an engine load to do DPF regeneration.

    Holy turbo flutter. Why do people not use blow off valves...

    • @btwbrand
      @btwbrand Před 3 lety

      bigger turbos don't need blow off valves because they have extra ports designed into the compressor housing for pressurized air to escape the compressor blades which reduces stall. Also larger turbos have larger diameter shafts which can handle the strain of a stall much better than a typical small vehicle turbo. They don't twist the shafts in half.
