The best place to retire is not in the United States.

This is a bought and paid for advertisement. Spokane is WAY too expensive for what it offers.

I like Spokane but there are some negatives like cold gray winter with a sizable snow amount, the crime rate is relatively high, and t's a long way to a really large city with an International airport. Plusses are low cost of housing, pretty area, no state income tax, and if you like a medium sized city, it qualifies.

The flight to SEA from GEG takes an hour. Flights are frequent and inexpensive

I was a Seattle to Spokane migrant in 2021 although I am a native Eastern Wa (Wenatchee) The better cost of living is at least part of the reason I could get on a better footing financially. The Winters are longer and colder than Seattle but not horrible and there are more sunny days. The housing market is tight but as the article said much more reasonable than West of the Mountains. I too have a desire to run away to Italy to have an affordable retirement

I retired in the Philippines. Better weather, friendly people, low cost, no gun crime, and I can ride my scooter everywhere.

Except for many of us, high heat and humidity all year isn't better weather.

I’ve lived in Spokane a long time. It has really gone downhill. Crime is ridiculous, especially property crime, but violent crimes are reported nearly daily now. And the fentanyl problem? Drive through downtown and you see druggies on every street corner. No exaggeration.

Spokane gets into the single digits for its daily high temperatures in the winter for a few days, and in the teens for weeks. It is cold, i lived there for 1 winter and cant handle the cold.

It's better than most places like Portland or Seattle. Bad news, it's still a blue state run by progressive Seattle. Not to mention the dirt, rocks, ice, and cold in the winter.

I hate how Baby Boomers have turned everything into an exclusive, elitist thing that everyone is shut out of. "Oh, you want a house in Spokane? Sorry, we're just going to buy them ALL and shut you out."
