      It had potential. It's just that the execution wasn't great, and the integration with System and Bionicle not immediately apparent.
      I just hope that if it returns, it'll open up more possibilities for wacky creations and most importantly, _not_ be a commercial flop.
      (Perhaps something like the Knights Kingdom II figures would be a good way to start?)
      I still cherish the Nick Bluetooth figures I have, and what's left of their limbs.

      It was originally going to be a licenced "LEGO: The Thing" series, but then TLG realized that the movie had gore and violence in it at the last minute, so bailed out of the deal, and repurposed most of the parts for a series that was still in the planning stage: Galidor...
      ha, gotcha! just kidding!.. or am I

  • @johnmickey5897
    @johnmickey5897 Před 3 lety

    I used to have that exact set and all the other Lego Galidor sets. The only reason i had them was the "Big Lots" stores around here got massive new stocks of Lego Galidor figures and that Vehicle around 2003-04, they sold the figures for 99 cents to 1.99 each, they sold the vehicle for something like 2.99-3.99, and finally they had this big electronic Galidor figure with a tiny LCD built into him and I remember that one being priced around 4.99-5.99. They were basically 90% off or more what the MSRP was only a year or two earlier.

    @SonicJrandSarah Před 3 lety +1

    This was one of three sets I got for Christmas of 2002. I found this one to be quite interesting. I remember reading the comic that showed all the good guys getting into this ship when the actual physical ship could only hold one figure. Actually, I was able to get two figures into the ship, but still. I know that they needed to make the set be affordable and not make it mega big for five figures in the series and maybe it would have worked better as a ship for minifigures. I'm not saying this should be for minifigures, the existing thing, but I'm just saying that if they were to make a ship that could hold as many people inside of it as it did in the show, they probably would need to have it be a ship that was made for minifigures, using the classic system build.
    I honestly ended up using this ship for my other action figures that were much smaller for means of transportation.

    Lego in the early 2000s were having a bit of a crisis, they tried ton of weird experiments like Galidor and moved further and further away from the core idea in Lego. What seem to have saved them is the huge focus on branded sets that can drive sales via popular movies and franchises like Star Wars.

    • @vaimantobe3034
      @vaimantobe3034 Před 3 lety

      That wasn't it either. They actually had one of their worst years in 2003, when there were no movies for HP and SW to tie into.
      What saved them was cutting back the amount of parts and colours, and to focus on the basics, such as starting the City range with modernized but classic designs.

    Why did this thing use system-proprietary joints, mixing and matching parts was the whole point of Galidor, it’d make the pod interesting to build up custom legs or service arms, how did they mess that up...

    for context for this stuff, Bionicle came out the year prior, and on the shelves were Galidor and the Bionicle toa nuva and Bohrok, let that sink in. Bionicle was everywhere, it was Lego's big thing in 2002, and Lego was like, "lets try this," and relased Galidor..which imo is a neat theme but it's too much not "lego" to ever be popular.
