For those that do not understand, this is an inline 4 cylinder engine. 16 valve. Crossplane crankshaft. If you want to know the science of the crossplane crankshaft, you can search it on here, there are several videos explaining the technology. As for the power, these bikes lack HP peaks like that of rival bikes in order to gain large numbers in torque and throttle response. The powerband is much larger than on previous models of r1 that were top end biased. Stock peak HP numbers are down around 150+/- a few. With a full exhaust, a flash tune and a pc5 you're looking at upwards of 165-170 at the wheel. That's with a stock engine and a good tuner.
Kyle Harris actually the stock '09-'14 R1's make ~ 160+ atw with a simple ECU flash. Reason being is because for American spec bikes, Yamaha has restricted the power output to about 80% of max power beyond about 10 500rpm. I've followed this up on countless forums and dyno charts, comparing stock and untuned results from US spec bikes against stock and untuned euro/Asian spec R1s. I think Motonosity or someone has a video discussing this.
This video helped me sell my 07 and buy an 09 lol. No regrets either, I slapped some Akros on there and she is so beautiful, sight and sound! Nice vid buddy.
@ukzDriftzz When you install a full exhaust system, the Air Fuel Ratio needs to be adjusted in order for the bike to run properly and prevent damage to the motor. During the same process, the tech will adjust the AFR to achieve the most power without getting too rich or too lean. The third task- they will re-adjust once again to create a smoother and more linear power curve. This means the throttle response will be smooth, with little to no abruptness, peaks or dead spots as the Revs build.

kawa calls it bigbang and yamaha calls it crossplane... it sounds like a v-twin! 1-2-1-1-2-1-2-3 thats the order the pistons makes combustion ... variation in the crankshaft gives more torque at lower rev !
I rather take the preformance of the 2009 engine then any other. Sound isnt that important. But since we're talking about it anyway I must say that I like this better cause its more growl sounding and evil then the predecessors that scream like they are getting choked.

@ShishaChris They actually copied the sound of the motoGP yamahas as close as they could while maintaining a reliable and "useable" motor for the street. Oh, and Ducati uses plastic also... Ducati is no longer the "exclusive" brand it once was believed to be. They're affordable and there are tons of them on the road. If you want to feel special, go get a MV-AGUSTA F4RR. Better yet, get a F4CC; its $120,000 and only 100 were made.

My friend has the exact same set up pc5 full exhaust same year bike and he has 155 to the rear wheel on a dyno..NO way is this getting 190 to the rear wheel.. with the ecu flashed you would get max 10 more hp so 165 max

@RETICS1 i had a 2006 r1... rode the 2006 zx10r and was sold... such a big difference in power... its not as pretty but its sooo much better!
