Havin' It from Paul Gilbert's new album Behold Electric Guitar.
"I finally wrote a song with long guitar solos! It took me decades to stretch beyond my pop song structure habits, and it feels great to be FREE, and just play, and play, and play. The song still has melodies and themes, and those were inspired by the idea that when you have something good... You still want MORE. Havin' it... don't make me stop wantin' it!"

Its so awesome to watch musicians of this caliber, the drummer, bassist and keybard player all obviously know the song but watch how they keep their eyes on Paul to see any subtle changes he makes on the fly and adapt to them...Pure Musicianship...These guys are fire...
that drummer is a monster. mad props to him. guess paul gilbert really has an eye for the best in the business, the entire band is crazy good.
Many thanks my friend. :D
@@BillRayDrums lovely groove boss !
@@Thrasher_Abbatoir :D
Bill Ray your hi hat work is amazing. I know u spent most of the time on the ride lol but I liked the hi hat stuff I heard.
@@czarpaul01 I never really thought about my hihat/ride rationing but thank you for the props! :)
"There is not one overdub on the record. Everything you hear is four guys jamming, listening to each other and making room for each other" - Gilbert
And no click tracks were harmed, annoyed, bedeviled, chided, unnerved or disheveled on this album. :D 100% human flow.
Strange how he changed shirts during this tune with no overdubes......
That doesn't mean they didn't cut and paste different takes together. The whole band is still playing together as a whole unit.
@@vaughnquinlan6722 Yeah we did like ten versions of this track and the video guy Jon edited the footage together. Some of the "B roll" (ergo "not PG") may be the part being played or not. The track itself is one contiguous piece with no overdubs.
@@davep2323 multiple takes of the same song. keep looking for the good in life haha
I've never met Paul but he seems like he my very well be the nicest guy in Rock and roll. Probably because he's always having a great time.
I agree its like her is everyone's best friend
I had the pleasure of meeting him and watching him play at Sweetwater two weeks ago during a recording class. He is one of the nicest guys I have met. Funny too. Great guy.
he is very tall saw him once with mr big i have a video of them playing live on my channel if you would like to see him up front :)
The comments by people who have met him make me very happy.
Met him at a mr.big gig in phx, blown away by how nice and humble he was. Amazing guy. 🙏🏻
I was lucky enough to see this whole band live in Manchester (UK) on tour. They were awesome 👏
That was a great show! billraydrums.com/photos/paul-gilbert/europe-2019-w-paul-gilbert/manchester-uk.html
Awesome!
@Alijah Pierce why would you need to hack your girlfriends insta?
@Person Trust issues I guess, maybe for curiousity but not stable reliationship though. Sorry for that guy.
@@thelaststringbender9635 ok XD. Im just not going to ask why this bot is in this comment section in the first place tho.
It is a tribute to his skill as an artist that Paul solos for over fives minutes and rarely repeats the same musical phrase/idea...unless of course he is playing the melody. His mastery of the instrument is simply stunning. His improvisational flow is crazy good. He's been a special talent since his metal days in Racer X. He's only improved with age.
THIS is the kind of instrumental music the world needs more of. A group of absolute monsters just in the moment. Bravo.
Soft touch to hard and wide vibrato, strong rock to jazzy phrasing.
Paul has it all!
He has said that blues has helped his ear, intervals, and whatnot. He has gotten sick of metal because a lot of players just sweep. Not saying he doesn't play metal, but they don't do anything unique or different.
@@TheMrCC21 Thanks, this is very interesting. I did not know this. I got into PG because of his articulate shredding and don't find his blues playing or tone so captivating (although it's great!).
Bizarrely Satriani has always been rooted in the blues and it was his melodic hummable phrasing that I find easier to listen to; perhaps it is the repetitive nature of his melodies (eg some form of "chorus" in a song) instead of the "let's go on a journey for a song" form that PG is taking here.
Anyway very enjoyable, although heading into a middley nasally tone these days.
No disrespect to PG, he's an eternal master and will always be one of the greats, but that's a very stupid statement. The last decade has been a golden age for Metal as far as innovation and experimentation is concerned.
And yes, please name one good Metal player that just sweeps.
Paul changes shirts so fast ( from 2:42 to 2:44 ) that you can't even see his fingers moving! Update: Don't get me wrong. I ADORE Paul and his music. This upcoming disc is going to be a great one.
think he'll do that on the tour?
bet he could have a coffee break while he's playin
😂
@Ralph Ashford stuff like that keeps em coming
David McCain - that’s an awesome catch man, lol. Now I’m looking for any other changes. TOO MUCH FUN!!
Official Music Video is artists actually playing the song. Great new idea. Glad somebody finally thought of this.
Saves tons of money and it's a better experience. I have no idea why people still spend money on crazy videos.
Joe bonamassa has been doing it for a while.
Vulfpeck gets it!
Actually is artists faking to play the actual song live, which is even sadder. :(
It's a kind of making of, put into a video clip. Nothing wrong with that for me
Came here for Gilberts guitar, found myself only listening to the drums after a few seconds. What a monsterdrummer geeez...And the bassplayer is fantastic too...Ohhh man!!
A "new PG music" announcement makes any day better! :D
Very Erratomainia sounding intro. .....too lazy to look up how to spell that.
I follow Paul for such a long time...in my younger Guitarhero years, he was my main influence..and still is..so cool to see, how much he has improved as a musician over the years...from the Scale shredder from hell to a mighty versatile Guitar wizard..I also met him a couple of times...such a nice guy..down to earth...a role model for every musician
This song is more proof that talent is all good and well but the point of making music is to make great songs people will actually want to listen to.
Paul is the greatest. This sounds like fusion . He's so versatile
That feeling you get when you have been trapped inside all winter but you finally step out on a nice sunny warm day .. Pauls the man !
Nailed it!
Paul Gilbert reinventing himself as fusion is pretty awesome. I could hear influences like Jeff Beck, Shawn Lane, etc...
Dixie Dregs too.
Yes ..dixie dreggs and some old prog, and of course 70's jeff beck.
I played in a JB tribute band (Blow by Blow outta San Diego) and have always been a fan of the Hellborg/Lane/Sipe releases. Those albums changed my internal wiring.
@@BillRayDrums I would agree with you. Hellborg/Lane/Sipe changed my musical perspective. I was fortunate enough to actually get to see them play live twice. Mind blowing!
SOME CHRIS POLAND TOO
Paul Gilbert is not only the jack of all styles but also the master of all of them. Such a nice person as well !!
Love the drummer's technique! Look at those fluid, relaxed wrists.
Much appreciated, amigo
PG just went to the next level. Amazing
PG is the only guy I know of who came to fame as a "shredder" and over the years, not only learned how to play nearly every style, but mastered them. Brilliant!
@Nate Bauer RITCHIE KOTZEN wants to know your location...... :D
@@keithkrick2255 LOL.....got me there! Yes, definitely in the same league!
romeo wants to know your location.
Yngwie Malmsteen left the group.
This is the most positive and wholesome comment section I have ever seen, and it makes me very happy that great music is at the heart at all of it! well done Paul, and well done internet!
Smiling is underrated! Vibes from the bassist and keyboard player
We are in good times to see living legends put out new music. 😍
YES! Just like other virtuosos! Joe Satriani's 'What Happens Next' (2018), Steve Vai's 'Modern Primitive'(2016), Dream Theater's 'Distance Over Time' (2019) and even Jordan Rudess' 'Wired For Madness' !!! We just need John Petrucci to release a new solo album now! He hasn't released anything since 'Suspended Animation' (2005).
I love the new funky direction Paul is going, sounds seriously great!
I must admit I've gotten away from Paul's music for the past few years. But this video with paul playing live caught my eye. And I was not disappointed! Not just a showcase of his high speed and dexterity, But a wonderful emotional display of just how much Paul become's part of the music he plays. Thanks for the inspiration Paul.
So inspiring to hear such a master talk about still evolving his playing at this stage in his career. I am all about this \m/
A prince of music
The metamorphosis from racer x the this has been the greatest journey to witness. Paul you are just amazing.
Wyldertrek
Nice comment man
So true
couldn't have said it better myself.. I was thinkin' it when I was listening to this. what an incredible journey.. just shows that one cannot ever master the guitar. there are just way to many styles to play and when you've learned them all and "master" them, a new style comes along. I love the guitar and I love Pauls journey through so many styles over the years..
It would be nice for a bit of speedy motions here and there, give a bit of classic PG spice to the song.
@@sashingopaul3111 This is PG stuff. He was never just a 100 mph shredder. He's not one dimensional like say Yngwie.
@@ryant3600 what I meant was that he could use some of his Racer X chops in his new works wherever it fits for "pizazz"
His feelings which comes out through guitar is out of this world...
Hats off to Paul for bringing instrumental guitar music to the fore again
A bit difference playing but it's still Paul..
Mr. Gilbert you made my day, Sir... 🙏
Crazy as usual! Awesome tune!!!! I look forward to listening to the new album! 🤘💪
I NEED this album, Ive listenD to these songs on the live show literally 337xs!!!
I grew up listening to Paul's music, the main reason why I learned to play guitar, was because of his technical stuff..
What made him amazing was he was open to have explored other territories like blues and now, jazz/fusion..
He keeps getting better and better.
Will do my best to follow his footsteps in evolution.
Bless you, Paul!

Im big fans of you mr paul, Love you. From indonesia
The joy in this music is palpable and I love it
His tone gets better with each release. It's really become unique, as is his phrasing. Love the sound he gets on some of the longer notes.
Im in love with that drumming
:D
He taught me my first guitar lesson ! He came in the box with my first ibanez god bless this man lol
I have lost my old gilbert, but you are still my hero

Paul Gilbert is seriously one of the most elegant guitarists out there.
Cool, fusion, shred, jazz, progressive

Paul sempre se reinventando e nunca falhando em trazer coisa nova! Eternamente mestre!
Love every second of it
Met Paul at a band clinic in the 90s, simply amazing. Great guy, superb musician. Thanks for posting! Keep rocking!
Love this dude. STILL evolving. From shred to tasty player. Always pushes himself. I think this seals it, Im gonna sign up for his online school.
Shred can be tasty too..
@@jadipeperzak4034 yeah, but it's really common to see a lot of shredders just "eolianing" all over the fretboard, doing all the time the same alternate picking
@@jadipeperzak4034 as a seasoning. As a full course meal, it's like eating an entire bag of hot dog buns. u want there to be more, but there aint.

Cant wait for this to come out...
So much feel into this. Great music PG!
PG is so underrated regardless how big and known he is.
Amazing! I never heard of this man until I recently watched him playing with John Paul Jones on mandolin and he was on acoustic guitar doing Going to California. It was amazing. This guy and his fellow musicians are extremely good.👍👍
Yes Paul! Groovy & natural ! Great interplay and amazing musicians congrats to all ! Hope to see u tour all over the world! Loved the melody !
Paul looks like he works in a science lab by day with those glasses. Brewing up sick solos.
You're not incorrect there!
Thank you for the Music!
paul youre the man
thanks for being a real guy
sincere genuine authentic congruent
thanks for your work
Man, this is awesome, you can see that Paul has evolve as a musician in general
Some of that playing reminds of Jeff Becks blow by blow and wired albums, awesome!
I used to play in a Jeff Beck tribute band actually
Thank you Paul, your music makes life better!
I do never get tired of listen to this progression.....
Nothing like watching a master at work. Fantastic!
Fan since the late '80s. Love Paul Gilbert.
Tim McPhate me, too. But his playing recently is better than ever. Never ceases to amaze
Me likey.... the whole band is sounding awesome 👌👌 loving the guitar tone Mr G
This is genius, in essence, I have no word to describe this. Awesome.
with these timing signatures and key changes it gives paul more to play in to. the band dynamics are great also.

Amazing Guitar Player and Amazing Band
Great master, guitar God
Comeback to Lima Peru plz! ✌
Miss Azul Music Lima Peru waiting for you, Guitar God.
Of all the guitar heroes still at it, Paul astounds me with his writing and quality of writing more than anyone. Love Buckethead, Steve, Guthrie and Joe, but Paul transports me to places the others can't.
Some of PG's best work. I am in love with this album, like a breath of fresh air. The band is so amazing!!! Awesome work

Paul, we need more videos like this!
PG you're the Best!👍🏼greetings from KK Sabah,Malaysia🇲🇾☮🤘🏼
Love the fusion vibes
This is awesome, thank you Paul and all others involved!
I’m not a blues fan, but when it sounds like this, with that tone, I can listen to it all day
More of a fusion with a bluesy twist in my judgement, but I can listen to it all day also.
Amazing Paul & Crew :)
Loving these videos! Great to see these guys at work! All such absolutely incredible players!
Mythical paul! Seems like yesterday i was studying his intense rock licks! I had the honor of stting out his Hand at a seminar here in italy more than 20 years ago. His guitar evolution and creativity have no limits! From the times of the racer x to today i grew up with You! Thanks paul! I love You!
I knew you were an awesome rock player, but i didn't know you were into fusion man.
That music is just awesome, madness. So expressive! The shifts in rythm are fantastic. Love it
If you like fusion listen to a song called Tales of the unexpected from Frank Marino of Mahogany rush he is another monster player that's very underated !
