*Can we just appreciate how good the drummer was*
Yes, Yes We Can. Awesomeness he is.
is he blind? Or his Groove face..?
It's Brian Foxworth. He's a monster jazz/blues/rock drummer. Currently tours with blues artist Curtis Salgado. He's got him some monster chops.
Yup he can go on drumming without food for some 200 days !!
IfunkY1 I went to looks for some pics, and I think it’s a combination of full cheeks, smaller eyes, and the “aw yeah” all of them have on their faces while jamming together.
- Do you want me to open up?
- I want you to feel good.
The best thing I heard today. Love, Paul.♥️
Said Every Great Blues man
Things that you can say also in sex
I know Paul is a chill guy and everything, but let`s admit that what really makes that approach to bandmates possible is having kickass musicians next to you like PG always has. The drummer in this case was no exception, he`s awesome.
Let’s just pay close attention to the fact that he wasn’t improvising. The drummer DOES know his parts and kicks over time.
That doesn’t make him any less amazing though, such a monster! 🤘🏼
@@GabrielNardinMusic Dude ive seen him kill with a student band. Paul is juat a great musician and a even better human being.
An incredibly skilled and well rounded musician, great teacher, and an overall decent person. Zero ego. I refuse to believe there are people out there who don't like Paul Gilbert.
Yeah when you consider how many exceptional guitarists prefer to show off technical abilities vs keeping a song groovy and well written. Paul has always been technical but knowns when to serve the music vs show off.
Coughs *malmsteen* coughs.
@@dudarino666 Greg Howe leaves the room!
Jealous ones maybe
@@dudarino666.. I can't remember who it was. It's going to drive me nuts that played guitar for 47 years period. I don't remember which one was but one guitar legend was one time quoted as saying great guitar players don't just know when to play the guitar, but when NOT to !
Buckethead took lessons from Paul when he was a teenager. He [Buckethead] gave an interview about meeting him: "The first time I saw him play was at the NAMM show - this is the one memory that I always go to - he was at the NAMM show in a booth and he was playing.
"I actually went there to see Yngwie [Malmlsteen] - at that time his album just came out and he was the baddest. And then Paul was in some booth and he was - it was insane! He was just ripping, I'd just never seen... he had so much control, but he was also...
"The best way to plant a seed or inspire somebody is by flowing in front of them and I think that's what that was - he was just doing it and it was... to this day, it's still the most intense memory I have of anyone playing that makes me want to rip.
"I wish I had a video of that or anything. And the crazy thing was that I got to know him and he taught me. I still have every lesson he gave me, and he really gave me a belief in myself that I needed because I wasn't around a lot of that.
"It was incredible - I mean my parents were super supportive - but the way he was encouraging me, and honestly, more than anything it was just seeing him and how he... more than even him teaching me, it was how he dealt with his environment.
"Because he lived in this tiny little apartment and it was just - nothing touched him. He wasn't even aware, he just was so focused on playing and that was so huge! He just was a great teacher - he is a great teacher - and at that time I was lucky because he accepted me to take lessons from him.
"And luckily my mom and dad drove me to him - he was pretty far away. But just being around him and beginning to see that - that was pure momentum. He was just laser-focused and it was incredible to have been around him at that time.
"Seeing him at that NAMM show in that booth - he was just gone! [Chuckles] I don't know what he would say about it, but to me that was the baddest thing I've ever seen because it was just somebody at the peak of what they could do and they're just doing it.
"It was like seeing Michael Jordan or Bruce Lee or... to me, those moments just don't leave my mind.
"It did [make me want to be that good], seriously. [Chuckles] I mean, I tried to get my fingers to look like his fingers. I think my fingers grew after I found him because he has crazy fingers."
Thanks for commenting that, was a good read :)
from podcast...buckethead make me what makes him paul g....im from est europe but from youtube like..trancendental or i don t know how to tell ...when i listen the shores of molokai i think is the best riff ever ....and calm down a little with a nice b minor ..he need 7 8 10 notes to break ur heart at not in that song in every song...
The last part is so true, when u admire paul Gilbert, ur fingers start to grow cz u want them to be like gilbert fingers lol.
Great story. He’s just incredible.. I still remember the really shitty homemade website he had, that was just so fucking great, really!
"I want you to feel good!" Because that's what music is about
Not really
Yes it is!
@@ZorbadTheGreat it's about sadness ando hate to. Don't be trollo
OK normie
Yes dude😎❤
When you practice metal shredding arpeggios with a metronome for 40 years and then you up and switch to blues, you become present day Paul Gilbert.
I remember watching Paul in the 90s on a "how to shred" VHS with Yngwie and a few others. I'm so happy to have found him on CZcams.
blues is so much more fun to jam to thats probably why he wanted to switch to a more bluesy style! Just my opinion though*
@@dennisabate1457 And blues is coming back around. It's evolving, though - a good thing! Lots of funk blues happening, blues rock (like this). Brian is the drummer for a group in Portland that is the coolest mix of jazz/funk/blues, it fills the place and people clap for almost all their songs. I can't get enough!
It's nice to be able to do it all I guess, but in mine (and many other opinions) blues guitar just sounds better
His arpeggios are much cleaner than any metal sweeper. He isn't able to sweep pick so he uses his large hands to have the large intervals, and string skipping. That is a large part of Pauls style, him and Nuno both use string skips over sweeping. I love it.
I don’t know how it gets much better than that
Will always deeply appreciate what a totally chill guy Paul Gilbert is. He exists in the realm of guitar gods, and always seems like some guy from the neighborhood. That's awesome.
Paul Gilbert is one of the few "shred" guitar players that are actually able to pull off a really convincing blues that sounds like he never did anything else. Love it
It's because he has a lot of technical skills and knowledge, John 5 is really similar,
*Guthrie Govan has entered the chat*
IMO Satriani is the master of the blues/shred. But Paul is certainly one of the best in this category
@@carlotognazzo6081 Satriani is more of a legato player though. Paul's shredding is a lot more aggressive with a lot of picking. Love satch too though.
@@carlotognazzo6081 Man I'd say Paul is better than Satriani. In my opinion at least.
Gilbert is a good man
Gilbert is a God, man
@@user-ep8nb6vb5m exactly 😂
God*
Can't believe I've only just discovered Paul Gilbert. This is legendarily awesome from start to finish.
where is a great melodic line, a good song? Recently? He makes lots of kinda secondary videos, not too interesting
@@ymelfilm Agree to disagree with you on that.
@@vvoof2601 sure, opinion is personal
You and me both
lmao somebody had the audacity to write not to interesting when it comes to Paul... Attila you may want to go back and fight with the Huns, better than writing nonsense here
I really love Paul Gilbert's playing lately... he has so much more "feel" these days... he was always an amazing shredder, but he has a feel that is so good too
And his Tone is incredible, he found his voice, too. I love his instrumental version of green-tinted-sixties-mind . And this song hurry up I heard he wrote for the band Rush , Get It ? 'Rush' 'Hurry up'. Out of respect for them, hence all the changes in Tempo and timing and melodic runs. I don't know if it's true but seeings how Rush is my favorite band !! I choose to believe it ! LOL and ironically the first time I ever listened to that song I remember thinking it reminded me of something Rush would do.
His playing lately is sweet. Do love the old school sounds especially the first few mr big albums those are some killer songs
nowadays he sounds like if jimmy page was playing clean and sober during the 70s
wow, really? im the complete opposite. he just feels... old. i miss the face melting shred solos and power. he always played with "feel" its just the "feel" was power, and now its the typical "ill bend this note and let it ring out while i make a funny face" kinda feel
@@void3923 It's a personal preference thing... I appreciate shred, but I prefer melodic stuff, even in rock. Sometimes shred is too much and becomes white noise after awhile, but it's ok if you prefer that style of playing.
When you know how to play guitar for real... you can play anything... Paul Gilbert is a true master!
@King Brilliant Lmao, sometimes simple is all you need. But I'd like to see you play better lmfao. Furthermore, if you've ever heard any of his other stuff you'd know just how talented the dude is. He's a top tier guitarist, of all time.
King Brilliant , it’s a blues they’re playing, why would he play anything other ? What a goofy statement dude
@King Brilliant not really a blues he did.. It was sober. Why? Cuz that ain't blues eeh
@King Brilliant Moron.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I just want to be as happy as Paul Gilbert jamming out.
Hehe me too

Man.. if Paul doesnt make you smile.. i dont know what will..
Best guitar teacher award goes to Paul Gilbert or good luck learning guitar
That's me in the window! I rushed around like a maniac getting other studio business dealt with first and I wasn't going to leave!!
Paul Gilbert playing is so tight. He is one of the best. He is my favorite guitarist above any other player because of the his ability to improvise and make the songs sound amazing.
Wow, you're famous now!
I’m jealous ! Hope you super enjoyed the show.
@@mrlarrybobjr We get a bunch of great bands there and I get to see a lot of awesomeness and free shows!
@@tracysalsbery322 so what’s the name of that place it looks really cool. Idk all the names of studios, I hope it’s not super famous and I sound like a dork. lol
Behind Eddie Van Halen, Paul Gilbert is my #2 spot for greatest guitarists of all time.
I have very few players that I rate 10/10. Paul is a 10/10 guitarist. This guy just does NOT miss. It's almost alien how he does this.
Wolfgang asked his dad if he could take lessons from Paul.
Eddie called Paul and said 'I suck at teaching' lol
I love how he goes from the 6th string to the 1st one at 5:09 shredding all the way down. It's a sound and style that is very characteristic of him. When you hear it you can just tell it's Paul Gilbert.
The small detail of flipping to the bridge pickup to get a proper pick scratch at the end is worth the price of admission
Paul Gilbert ! Should go down in history as one of the Greatest guitar 🎸 players ! 👍🏻👍🏻
This is why I love Paul's playing! He can shred, but most importantly, he can hold back and just feel the music when it calls for it, letting a few well spaced notes say as much or more than 32nd note run ever could!
Paul Gilbert's playing with the Paul Stanley signature guitar!
"Paul Gilbert of many faces", the most humble yet also the most talented servant of the Many Faced Guitar God.
" I want you to feel good ! " ..... the best instruction from a manager/conductor ever !... sounds easy but ...if you dont have skills...its going to be hard...
But then again, I have a feeling that the drummer does have skills...
That's why he hired musicians with skills lol
15 years and still the same feeling when i see Paul Gilbert playing "I AM DONE - I QUIT GUITAR"
If you don't just get pure joy from watching Paul do his thing... I feel sorry for you
WOW is paul gilbert a wild guitar player or what there all good the drummer is top notch very professional music here
"I want you to feel good" my god isn't that what music is all about. Paul Gilbert is a legend and is all about the music . 🎶 drummer is also epic
O M F G! The timing, the feel, the groove; wow! I’m speechless. The drummer was exceptional. They all were. PG’s playing borders on the manic. Beautiful.
Some humans that are blessed with the ability and most importantly the drive and ambition to master the guitar . . . .they know how quickly life can change and disrupt what we love to do and Paul is having fun and that relaxes the human mind so the subconscious can take over, and allow off the charts mega creative runs on the fretboard. Paul is like the phoenix that is an immortal mythical bird with magical powers that is known for its ability to regenerate itself. It is thought that at the end of the phoenix's life, it spontaneously bursts into flames, only to be reborn from the ashes as a young phoenix, ready to begin a new life cycle all over again. Paul is a free spirit loving life and helping others relax and have fun.
The casual pinch harmonics in the middle of licks 😭 most people don't even realize he's doing them they're so quick
That Blues Solo was off the charts.
Paul gilbert: happiest man alive
5:06 *brooooo 😮😮😮😮😮😮 that chord and phrasing was insane!! Woo*
I couldn't tell you how much I love Paul. But what I can tell you is that if someone started a petition to call Paul 'God' from now on, I would sign that thing in a fucking heartbeat!
They're all so great, but this drum sound is just waooooouwwww
Literally sounds like the quality you’d get on a record. The calibre of musicianship is insane
This IS a record, they're just so damn tight they do it live!
@@akihiro1389 They had originally planned to record the whole band with one mic. Glad they didn't. Probably my favorite PG album.
Why the hell would you even think about giving a thumbs down? People have issues.
Honestly what impresses me so much is how much restraint Paul Gilbert shows throughout most of the song. He’s not even bored, just enjoying the fuck outa some simple blues licks like he just learned that shit! It keeps building up, like the tension of an action movie’s A plot
So I usually don't listen to Blues, but after seeing Paul's Sweetwater interview where he talked about his take on it, I had to check out some Paul Gilbert Blues. I'd give this performance a 10/10, anything Paul touches turns to gold.
when you find rock stars that you worshiped during your teen years start wearing glasses and growing white beard, you realize you're freakin' old too.
I'm 41 today!
I saw Racer X at the Country Club back in 1987. I am truly old.
@@robertwoolley5486 I was 15 when that happened :)
Hahaha! YESSSSS!!!
46 here 🙄
And also... Is that the kid from the 1967 Cartoon... forgot the name but it was “a name, and his flying robot” 😂😂 Johnny Sokko! I searched it up
Wow! That drummer steals the show.
If I were a talk show host, this would be my intro music.
It’s amazing to see the kind of musician Paul has become. He’s grade A. all the way.
No Grade O
PG's development as a musician reminds me of Pablo Picasso. He's gone from technical virtuoso as a precocious teenager to just having a blast like a big kid in his middle age.
Paul's sincere smile at the end...he's such a cool guy. I'd love to meet him and just have a chat.
Holy shit I love Paul. Not only his amazing guitar skills, but the fact that he's just a friggin cool guy.
On the Tonight Show please welcome our band Paul Gilbert and the Smooth Groove Gang.
spakattack theyre way too good to just be playing on the Tonight Show I reckon
I can recognize his playing just by listening to his vibrato. Hot damn Mr Gilbert!
Showed this to a buddy of mine and he said can you imagine how those guys felt at night after playing with Paul? And I said nah...can you imagine how Paul felt at night after playing with these guys?...Absolutely Epic Bandmates,Paul sure knows how to pick em...
Have you seen Mr big live? They were awesome, one of my all time favourite bands
Jason Aquitania unfortunately no I haven’t...
I did :). And they were my childhood heroes.but on stage, theyre technical gods of rock music, they play as if u play the CD, and Paul never misses a note. ;)
I see Paul Gilbert the way I look at Randy Rhoads' playing. Always full of Heart and Passion and ALWAYS playing for the SONG !! Not just playing "Licks" running scales up and down the fret board with no purpose or direction like many ( famous ) Guitarists do.
Very tight band
In my opinion this is some of Paul’s best guitar work.
I personally enjoy this much more than the ultra fast licks that we all know he can do very easily 👍
right on. Players mature, and may disappoint the metal forever crowd.
so many shredders out there... but they’re empty... PG got some soul...
pseudosun tons of people were a bit disappointed with Jason Becker’s new album for the same reason. I was expecting a shredathon, but was hit with beautiful orchestral melodies. I love seeing how much guitarists mature over the years.
One of the FEW "shredders" who has SOUL and can play with FEELING!
Awesome job guys!
God bless and take care...
Dumb comment.
I can't believe i watch this man (mr.big) every morning before i go to school. It's 19 years ago. Man, i'm not even a guitar player, but i still love to see him plays all of his 6 strings until now. 🤟🤟🤟🤟 God bless you Mr.paul gilbert.big
When I grow up, I want to be just like Paul

He is the kind of guitarist that never gets old. Sweet!
Creamiest, thickest, most free flowing guitar tone on the sound market today!
Everything about Paul gilbert is ace and this band is meticulously brilliant!
“Paul Gilbert” Even though I don’t know him...he is so consistent with all his interviews. Personable, great attitude and he is such a rad player with feelings for days. Cheers
Hes a payed actor, he dosent actually play guitar
And that is how you make a guitar solo sound cool and not boring
The guy with the headphones is so good
That's Paul Gilbert from Mr. Big and Racer X
I wish I could play like that. Been playing 36 years and I've put in some work, but Paul's just amazing.
man he's on fire just on fire !

I listen Paul since 1988 til I die ^^
Bravo !!! Specially the final part... awesome
Paul is so good, in part because he's always trying to expand himself musically, in a good way, as opposed to not being satisfied with himself. Always exploring for the sake of the musical creativity. And such a down-to-earth cool guy too.
What a terrific groove! Way to go, guys.
PG takes the blues and shines its shoes.
