Great video, my only contradicting opinion is the idea that your gear will always be relevant. That USED to be the case, but with the latest "expansion" (LOL), Anet snuck in a way to force every (or nearly every) player doing endgame content to buy the newest xpack even for completing older raids, strikes, etc. In the past, if you wanted to play scourge, it was fine if you only had pof, not hot or eod. If you wanted to play mechanist, it was no issue if you only bought eod. But NOW, with the gutting of rune set bonuses and the addition of SOTO-ONLY relics (which are SIGNIFICANTLY stronger than all the other relics, at least in the case of condition-based relics (which make up the majority of raid specs), you HAVE to buy SOTO to keep up. It doesnt matter if your spec is from 3 expansions ago. You no longer have all the tools necessary to play it unless you shell out $25 bucks for the most lackluster xpack in the game's history. This really left a bad taste in my mouth. As someone with several legendary armor sets, full legendary trinkets, multiple weapons, etc, it feels like SHIT that I dont have the option to at least invest a good time/gold chunk into making a legendary relic. On top of that, all my friends that only have the first 2 xpacks - I cant send them a link to a build and tell them to copy it. They literally cant. They cant keep up in raid. Theyre dead weight. *players with SOTO are stronger than players without it even in content that has nothing to do with SOTO*. This, combined with the fact that they sold us a glorified Living World story and slapped an "expansion" label on it, are the first decisions made by Anet that have really made me question if I want to continue playing Guild Wars or just cut my losses and move to another game that relies on cosmetics and content for monetization instead of artificial power creep.
all that being said, the game is fun, and if you're the type of player that doesnt mind the shift in the gaming industry toward p2w models like Lost Ark, then you'll probably have a blast playing GW2. And taking advantage of some of the tips in this video will certainly make your experience even better
You're probably right, I took it from the perspective of playing a berserker ele with for ages now, but didnt account for newer expac stats. But again, this is a smaller chance that you might come across this situation
This is true, it's certainly less jarring than leaving and returning to a game with a gear treadmill. Unfortunate that it's becoming more of an issue as more content is added to the game, but you're right, if you can get away with a power build that doesn't use weapons from other elite specs or soto-specific runes, then this isnt an issue. There just arent very many of those left that can actually compete with newer builds, or even get close, and that's been a pretty big concern for me. Make 3 toons. Lvl up to 2-3 then go into the pvp waiting/test area. Play that toon at instant lvl 80 with all skills and see how you like it. If you like it lvl it up in game. If you don't like it delete it and try another. Best advice I've come across IMHO buy the Path of Fire/Heart of Thorns bundle. If you like it buy Secrets of Obscure. You'll get the raptor for land travel where the Skyscale needs to be unlocked and while not hard it's not exactly easy for a new player. I'm not impressed with Secrets aka:SotO
Id also go with PoF and HoT bundles, its what I said in my other video, but then again there are people who prefer the Skyscale before exploring HoT maps. Also, great point on the first comment!
@xGuiders I'm a new player, and it took me at least 2 weeks to unlock the skyscale. Unless you're lucky, you'll need to unlock the second half of the map for the quest. Took me 2 days till I figured that out. It will take 12 days to charge the quartz, assuming you have quartz to charge. You'll need to collect the other materials as well. The loaner skyscale is gimped because no masters are unlocked starting out. That makes travel tedious. The Skyscale doesn't really fly like you think a dragon would. Its airtime is limited and annoying, BUT it makes the game way easier outside of the SotO area. So definitely worth getting if you like the game. I'd say it's a must for group trains. Next on my list is the roller beetle. I've played all classes except thief. If I were to recommend a generic class to try first, it would be ranger.
@@FoulPet It just makes me happy that you are enjoying the game. Skyscale can be a hassle to get, but again, the sense of achievement and ownership after you get it, is not like getting a mount in other games where you just talk to an NPC and hey, you have a flying dragon now. And I think, this is whats nice about the mounts in GW2.
@xGuiders You definitely appreciate something more you earned. The raptor is basically free, and I enjoyed it till I got the Skyscale. It's faster on land, and I'll occasionally switch to it when in a hurry. Not to fully disagree or agree, but I purchased 2 extra character slots with $ and enjoy them. I'm sure if I buy extra bank space, I'd enjoy that, but I'm trying not to make the game a complete money sink. Buying the expansions should really give you more than it does. Locking quality of life upgrades behind a pay wall isn't exactly a nice thing to do.

Then i discovered muk, caffenateddad,woodenpotato and etc. Thanks for the vid you guys are the reason why i downloaded the game and bought all expansions even if i am still in the base game unlocking only 4 maps so far with my mesmer hahaha. I stayed in lions arch most of the time and i cant move past or progress i am addicted to pvp, fractals ans wvw hahha

After this long time of playing, I started a new Human Thief and am exploring the whole Tyria for the 2 Gifts without using Mounts. And that just for have the old "pre POF" feelings :) I use glider... Makes me feel like Link in Zelda
