I'm also one of the veteran players amongst others here. Concerning earning gold: 1. Gold isn't all that matters. You get a lot of materials that you can use for crafting. And crafting your own gear can replace buying it and spending gold in the first place. 2. Sell your items on the trading post and not to NPC-vendors. (Just rightclick the item and "sell on the tradingpost") Other players pay much more gold than NPCs 3. As a solid goldfarm and if you wanna look into group-content, fractals are a great option. They start of very easy. But also the hardest fractals on challenge mode are among the hardest content ingame. It makes for very good gold per hour and you can earn ascended gear through it. The more difficult they get (and the better you get) the more rewards and gold you get. I hope this helped! Enjoy the game and thanks for you videos! :)
I think the most important thing to consider when it comes to GW2, especially if you are coming from other MMOs is the horizontal progressions. Actual horizontal progression. No content is irrelevant and you are not pulled on a string to the latest released bit. End game is whatever you choose to do and it starts as soon as you step out of the tutorial. Do not fall into the mistake of rushing through the game thinking it's just there to get to the latest content. You will miss most of what's on offer that way. Some players need a carrot dangled in front of them to play a game, and that's fine. Here, you have to choose your own carrot as the game doesn't force you in any direction. It's the reason why so many like this game, and it's the reason why some complain about lack of incentives. Try it and see if it's something you enjoy. Ultimately, having fun is all that matters.
This is just a little fun fact. When you buy the expansions they usually give you a level 80 character boost. I wouldn’t recommend boosting a new character to level 80 until/unless you know how to play and build them. Otherwise you’re hit with every available skill and build at once and it can be very overwhelming to try and put a good and viable build together while still learning the basic mechanics of that particular class. Now here is the fun fact: when you use the character boost it not only makes you level 80 but also gives you a full set of exotic gear and weapons AND 4 fifteen slot bags as well. It also completes all of your hero points making every core skill and build complete (which needs to be complete in order to start working on your elite specializations). So even if you’re level 79 and you use it you can still reap a massive benefit in gear, weapons and bag space.

I think using terms like "end game content" should be bit more precise knowing how GW2 works in general. Like you correctly said, you're chasing experiences, so, for most people end game is a thing where most players come to and engage in regular basis (to progress or whatever), like its like THE GOAL to get there, which is not here :) You have classical instanced content (dungeons,raids,fractals,strikes) but huuuuuge chunk of game is a open world and stuff assosiated with it (ie. progress,lvl,masteries,achivments,collections) so you can avoid instance content and progress. Ofcourse there are some type of rewards available only in those instanced content (skins, requairement for collection achivment etc) but nothing there is "required" for you to lvl up, get best gear, unlock masteries, enjoy story etc. basic stuff. Also small tip for you my guy - if you go for a meta event (like in video for tequatl) please use LFG. Every map can have multiple instances. How to change it? If you are in a party/squad you can "join" their instance (but only if both of you are in the same map), so use LFG to find squad and believe me there will be squads if meta is about to start :) join squad and then RIGHT CLICK ON COMMANDER AND JOIN HIS INSTANCE. It is important because you might end up in a instance where ppl jumped out to different instances. Its a common thing to do so get used to it. So again, teleport to map you wanna do, use lfg and join commander instance.

Awesome video!! I've been focusing the core game first, but you've convinced me to start unlocking gliding and more mounts. I've been running around as 80 for a while doing various content basically completing all the core game maps and whatnot. I've been having fun, but I do want to get to the other expansions. I did buy End of Dragons as well which I haven't dove into at all yet, and I got some living world content complete already. My main goal was to play through the story of the game in a linear fashion, but people have told me that overall it doesn't matter when I do what. The game itself is very story driven!
Your experience with this game is exactly as mine when I first started playin it! Though I was interested in it when it was first announced and I gave it some try. I'll admit that It sucked that there were no mounts so quit pretty fast. Years went by and when I saw mounts that are to be introduced in PoF, that's what got me interested. They looked so cool and unique and man, loved Raptor from the very first moment I saw it. So yeah, got just Raptor while avoiding any spoilers from PoF and then went back to core maps just to explore and finish them all. No rush, chill play and it was all I needed. It helped me to know the game a little bit more and by the time I have completed core maps I was hooked. I was sick of Wow and Gw2 turned out to be perfect replacement. I have paid for Wow sub and felt that I must play it otherwise I just wasted my money! Gw2 is the tottal opposite. I love how alt friendly this game is. It's just so cool how often I play other proffesions and the fact that masteries are bound to my account progression makes it even more enjoyable.
Great video! GW2 is literally such a favorite game of my husband and mine. You may/probably already know this, but I was wasn't sure if you said "a world event" or world events, and since I didn't hear the other world events mentioned just wanted to suggest trying out the other world events in Frostgorge Sound, Metrical Provice, Wayfarer Foothills... there should be a world event in every starter area except for the Charr starter :)
For pvp reward earner daily, easiest and fastest to get this is: Once you got some pvp potions (from earlier dailies), you can just consume 2 potions and you'll get your daily instantly. If you have like 30+ at least, you'll be able to sustain this for a long time, since you'll get 1 potion out of the 2 back. Same goes for the wvw big spender. Make sure you finish your 6 rune set bonus (get 1 more superior rune of strength)! The 6th bonus is usually the biggest boost. However in the new expansion this is going to change. If you want fast gold, go fractals. Once you get some unlocked bonusses you can get between 30-50 gold a day for about an hour's worth of gameplay. I've been playing this game for 10+ years, so it's hard for me to go back to when I started. Nice to see your perspective! Keep it up, and enjoy what's to come :)
The Jackal when you press 1 it hits your allies and gives them a really good shield one of the best in the game, It goes hand and hand with my healer. I thought it would be great to mention that People should use the LFG More, I see a lot of the newer players not using it. It is amazing to get yourself used to, HP Trains and everything, groups for Meta's even Daily's.. It will also get you into a more filled instance with other players doing group activity. Nearly every map usually has atleast 1 group doing something.
Ty dude found your video very useful i been playing for a few days now still making the biggest mistake wish is trying to decide what to play and create and delete characters lol but i want to focus on mounts as well, will take your advice.
Suggestions for new players 1. Don't get a mount early on. You absolutely do not need it to level. Zones are not that large, classes often have their own sort of speed or movement buff (if only temporary at times) and you can teleport to anywhere virtually any time for an insignificant amount of money 2. The journey is the majority of the fun in this game. Take your time, explorer zones, unlock things and areas. An 80 rush is a terrible way to play it.
Eh, I would tell my friend to use the mount to get to the next story quest if we have to run a ways after completing exploration, or we simply want to be lazy when finishing map exploration and simply rushing, but that's me. You're right that the exploration is the fun part and you don't need the mount for that. It will make 100% map completion a bit easier and quicker, tho. Most of the time, at least.
Been playing since the beginning, and of course I have all the mounts. I still run all the time. We ran for years and I like it still. I like to fight everything :)
My #1 tip to new players would be to get BlishHUD. (It's an overlay that shows you all the Masteries, Hero Points, etc. in your current map - among other things.) #2 is get the Glider (Heart of Thorns) then Skimmer and Springer mounts (Path of Fire). #3 play the Secrets of the Obscure expansion and work on unlocking the Skyscale mount to use outside the expansion.
Played at launch and hated the game, along with many others. I just came back to it 3 days ago and I am having a great time. I am now starting to look for a guild, as playing an MMO for me is just as much about the game as it is the people I share that experience with. Keep making the content, great job!
Hey man, I did the exact same thing you did, but I used the level 80- boost. I was having a fantastic time just grinding out the areas, unlocking Vistas and exploring my main campaign as a Warrior. I used the boost and now have lost all ability to understand what's going on. I spent mulktiple hours iN PVP, making new builds and translating builds online, but your guide is all I really wanted, to unlock all the cool mounts before I started actually grinding out all the earlier maps the game has to offer. So, I'm gonna start where you did and see how it goes. The level 80 boost may have stunted my literal brain growth, but it def set me up for success.
Oh, you're in for a journey then. I did 100% for central tyria on two of my characters before HoT, and now I just get enough done to then grind out the rest of what I need to complete a target elite spec. My true main is the only one I actually try to 100% (and usually fail) any of the expansions. May get around to it in the future, may not. But then, GW2 is all about setting personal goals to do and then doing them. Makes completing those goals worthwhile. Gonna be interesting when I roll a new character when my friend picks the game up, as I will do it all with her from the start and take her on that journey. Won't be the same for me as it will be for her, but it will give me at least a little of the vibe that I had the first time, and I can get the excitement from living vicariously on it again.
its so funny, I played back before mounts were in game,and running around was actually really fast because ppl learn to use their skills for movement! for example on ele, staff air 4 gives swiftness (speed buff), about-face staff fire 4 is a fast straight line (it goes backwards, thus do about face, the skill, then about face again rapidly), and dagger offhand air 4 is a very fast forward lightning dash (make sure ur not targeting a mob). on warrior I think greatsword 3 is a rapid directional spin in direction you selected, on ranger gs 3 is a far leap forward, iirc guardian gs3 is also a really long leap forward, and sword....2? 3? is a longish thrust forward. and in between cd, we usually would have swiftness as well (like ele air staff 4, guardian staff...2? or 3) etc etc. we also used to do things like ele put staff air 5 on ground for lightning field n everyone blast the field for long lasting group swiftness. 😂 honestly even today I would get off my mount, use ele dagger 4, then get back on mount 😂 I looooooove the new mounts, dont get me wrong, but before mounts it wasn't nearly as slow as ppl might think!
something people don't often think to check when they start the game is- all of the options and settings! there's so much customization available in the Control Options panel, where you can change any and all keybinds to things that you're more comfortable with! speaking of, all mounts, after unlocking, you can set keybinds for them rather than having to swap through them with the tiny arrow box down right. Oh! and if you're a fan of being all up in the combat, setting up the keybind for "Toggle Action Camera" is good because action camera mode is much more engaging imo, but plenty of people actually prefer the standard camera mode, so give it a try.
4:30 this is exactly right! Ascended (pink quality) gear is only about a 5% stat boost over Exotic (orange quality) gear and Legendary gear has the same stats as ascended with the ability to freely swap what stat combo its using at any time out of combat. You can pretty much run any non-fractal endgame content with full exotics. The important thing to look for are the stat combos on your gear. For example if you're running a power build you want mainly power (raw strike damage increase), precision (critical hit chance), and ferocity (critical hit damage). For condition based builds you probably also want to get Condition Damage (self explanatory) and Expertise (increases duration of conditions you apply). Theres a whole bunch of fun stat combinations out there!
I'm not much into story and I did some research and did just this. Heart of thorns maps have a lot of verticalliy and until you grind out the masteries to level all of your skills can be a bit irritating. With the raptor and springer, it's much easier to navigate the Heart of thorns maps to get to the masteries you need. Also just jumping into world vs world for 30 minutes a day (kill a veteran mob, kill a guard etc) , you can work up to some very nice rewards and gear as well. The game has multiple ways for you to get good things no matter what your interests. I think as a new player, don't get into crafting right away. Sell, sell, sell on the trading post. all of those silvers add up and can net you some starting gold. You'd be surprised how much gold from plain materials that sell for coppers and silvers you can net by doing this. Then start crafting if you want.
That's true, but crafting, if you're wiling to invest the time for it early on, speeds up leveling and can get you nifty gear that meets your exact specifications or wants. Either selling mats and then doing crafting down the line, or building the crafting as you go, are viable methods.
I played since launch and they had no intentions on mounts and it wasn’t until the second expansion which brought mounts. Walking/Running is still very viable. First thing new players should do is just play the story and explore the areas they are lead to be in through the story. The leveling is to learn the class then when at 80 start looking at specializations but continue playing the story and exploring. I am currently replaying the whole story line from the beginning on a new character since it has been years since I first completed it.
Well said, I agree. Yeah it was interesting to me that mounts were introduced so much later. While viable, I still find walking/running to be not as fun as mounts. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a large influx of new players when they put mounts in for PoF. They kind of nailed it.
@@Mario_Universe yes I played every MMO you can image and the mount system in GW2 is the best around. Mounts with a purpose is game changer. Very good video for newbies to follow a good path. Most important don’t rush there is no need with the horizontal progression. 👍🏼
On my main which is a thief, I have more mobility through skills than my mount if it's on land. Griffon always is best if I have a high starting spot. Especially since build templates were implemented, I can quickly change to daredevil and back into my shadow arts build but to move if I'm minmaxing my movement in wvw lol.
I personally choose to play the entire core game to 100% world completion without mounts or gliding, even though I could've just unlocked them and went back. It ultimately made getting them significantly more rewarding for me. The base game was made without the intention of extra mobility. Therefore, in my opinion, it wasn't bad at all.
i've been looking for an mmo to play, i bought gw2 when it came out like a decade ago but never really got into it, seeing this video makes me wanna try it
I started playing 2 weeks ago and I started a border champion. She is lvl 32 and she is so fun. The mechanics are a little confusing, still apeacilly ong big bosses that are around the road, and they have a bunch of spawns around them. But the healing ability with staves love it. Plus it it makes damage as I hit everything around me. Bonus.... I can't wait to get to lvl 80 and explore fully everything. This game is such a cool experience, a relief from the mindless grind that has no point other than to spend your real money on a "proactive" way (yes, I'm makiing fun of the wow subscription) I also love the fact that expansions matter in here. Unlike other games where past expansions get forgotten. WoTLK love you..... 😢 I wanna play the mage profession here, as it looks really fun too.
GW2 is all about exploration, becoming more efficient with your class/profession, and completion of collections to get the fancier armor and weapon skins that isn't from the cash shop. You can solo a lot of if not all of open world content with exotic gear on the right build. Some builds use even the most basic stat combination and rune set, too.
I have been playing this game since it came out in 2012, and i just got my 2nd mount like 3 months. The only mount Im missing now is the Warclaw. Im still learning this game. you gave beginner players some valuable info. I bought a couple of things that I wish I would have known sooner, but has been helping me out now. 1: armor boost cannister through the BLT. It boost your armor for 11 hours, 5 for 150 gems. 2: copper salvagematic. You use it to turn unidentifiable gear, and other things in your inventory into sellable stuff. It cost a couple of copper to use it, but you make it back. Get your Griffon, and dont worry about the Skyscale. When the new expansion drops on the 22nd of this month, everybody that doesnt have a Skyscale will have the opportunity to use the Skyscale . They are making it easier to get. But getting the Griffon will open up more of your map.👍
I also highly advice always identifying your unidentified gear before salvaging it. It has a fairly good chance to get promoted to a higher tier when identifying it and even has a chance to drop legendary precursors, making it more profitable. Also dont salvage rare gear with the copperfed salvagomatic, but instead use mystic salvage kit (its pretty cheap to make and has 250 charges with the same effectiveness as a masters salvage kit) which heightens the likelyhood of it dropping higher grade materials like ectoplasms that are essential materials for ascended gear crafting.
As still somewhat of a noob in Guild Wars 2, although I've been playing for almost 6 years now, I'd like to suggest getting the "Seasons of the Dragons" achievement that rewards you a legendary amulet. It's not fast, but it's really fun, or at least it was for me. Also it was my way to get my first legendary gear before finally crafting Aurene's Bite a month ago. Also now with the addition of the Wizard's vault you can get ascended gear pretty easily. You don't really need any legendary gear unless you want to feel special as ascended has the same stats as legendary, the only difference is that you can use your legendary gear on multiple characters with different stats selected and you can even change the selected stats whenever you want to. So basically legendary gear is just for your conveniece, ascended will do the job just as well.
Yes, the exotic gear is fine for everything besides high-level fractals...usually the story and leveling introduces you to most content the more you go on: - for dungeons you get mail that sends to the right one for that story level (there's story in dungeons, yes, parallel to the main one, but explains some things) - you get send to fractals after some pieces of Living World Season 1 - in season 1 you get to WvW for a story mission - season 1 introduces instanced world events (in public instances) the only things you will not be led to in the slightest, if not by achievements, are PvP and Raids...and maybe strike missions
@@Mario_Universe Less requiring you to do the fractals, though the instanced dungeons (The Tower of Nightmares, The Battle of Lion's Arch, and The Breachmaker) are story required for S1. They were fun, I admit, but I will also admit that I am perfectly fine with them simply being a one and done for me. At least for now.
I recommend new players to just enjoy the game how it was for us in the beginning without mounts. Just don't rush stuff. However if you are impatient and want to do everything fast, then I recommend joining some guild and help them rush you through the game, getting mounts and stuff. But that is a grind for a few weeks, before you really start enjoying the game itself. I've seen a lot of new players rushing to 80, gearing up getting stuff fast and then leave the game because they thought that was it...
Tequatl also has a chance to drop a best in slot weapon/armor choice box. Very nice, if you are still gearing up :) You can change the stats in the mystic forge (wiki has the recipie)
And every enemy has a rare, vanishingly rare, chance to drop a legendary weapon so you can skip the highly involved process to make one via the Mystic Forge. Or be lazy and buy one from the Trading Post if you have the gold. And Tequatl is one of the harder world bosses for a reason. Not the Triple Trouble Wurms, which is insane and requires very precise coordination, but he is one of the harder one. Very worth it, though.
One piece of advice for newcomers who don't use an _Instant Level 80_ ticket: Just exploring the 5 beginning cities and Lion's Arch (finding the Points of Interest, Vistas, etc) will get a player to at least level 10 without running into difficult situations. Also, regarding those tickets; Don't use them. If you progress to level 80 normally (which you can actually do fairly rapidly), and _then_ use the "Instant Level 80" ticket, it will instead give you a full set of Exotic Armor, Accessories and a selection of weapons - All max level...
Okay this is a little misinformed because you still get the full set of Celestial regardless of level. The real reason to actually save the ticket is because you're skipping a large amount of "first time experience". You get chucked in, full utilities, traits and gear, and you have no idea where the hell you are or what the hell you're doing. You're gonna have so much information flooded, and it puts most people off the game. I would suggest newcomers level one character normally to 80, and save your skip for later characters instead.
@@h3rpad3rpacifilis Fair enough. I'm going by what I was originally told - And that may have been wrong. I have 8 characters (one of each class except Revenant) and I've never used one of the "Instant Level" tickets before reaching 80. Not because I thought I wouldn't get loot, but because I enjoy leveling normally and learning while exploring. In my younger days, MMO grinding could be incredibly tedious and leveling in GW2 is pretty easy, rapid and enjoyable - So I can't really disagree with you...
Gear rarity almost doesn't matter once you have a set of exotic. Ascended gear, which is the next tier up is about 10% higher stat, while Legendaries have the same state as ascended gears except you can change the stat combo on demand. Once you have a set of exotic with the right combination of stat, you're pretty much good. What's more important in this game is the buffs you give and get with other players in a group play. A full stack (25) of might (power) buff gives you +750 Power and +750 Condition Damage, making the 10% stat increase in gear improvement insignificant. There is a world event in pretty much every map. Players call them "map meta-event".
also on the trial raptor for f2p, if the trial ends and you still wanna have the raptor just create new slot get it to lvl 10 (do not press the trial reward) change back to your main and just click it and thats it your raptor is back but will still be in trial. (also please do giveaways if you have some expansion key to share)

In PvP, your equipment dont affect you directly, but there is a catch. If you dont wear minimum 3 armour pieces, your PvP amulet has around 75% reduced stats. But the armour piece can be any lvl and any rarity, that wont affect it and obviously need weapons to use their skills-
With exotiC gear you can do 90% of the conted of the game baisicly besides Fractals witch have a mecanic named "Agony Resistanse" and only Ascendent gear can can recive agony infusions so you can do the end game fractals. Every thing esle you dont realy need more then exotic but it will be a little esyear if you have ascedent because the diference on status on ascendent i think around 5% more on every stat then exotic as but the agony infusions system is only need for Fractals Tier 2, 3 and 4. Also you have legendary but that gear as the same status as ascendent ass but they are more beatifull and you can switch stats when ever you want because with ascendent you build the gear a lets say Berserker status and you need to build another one if you want to play like some other builds with legendary you look cooler and just need one set of itens for every build and also they are expencive so you can get some good gold from legy itens.
The best advice I ever give to new players is that there is a button to store materials into the bank from your inventory panel (usable from anywhere in the world). XD Don't save your hero points, you will have it all unlocked at lvl 80. Don't worry about your armor and weapon rarity until lvl 80, just use what you find. If you aren't sure what to sell or salvage, use the built in /wiki command in the chat. Don't save the "essence of luck" orbs, consume them- it is an account wide boost that is NOT on a timer. Learn to dodge and/or walk through enemies to evade attacks.
If the best advice is the bank material button, then the 2nd best advice is to go into settings and disable the compact items button right next to the deposit. Wish i knew that earlier, would have saved me a lot of inventory re-management
you are not wrong. exotic gear is not too down below ascended. However, considering your profession, weapon choice, traits you chose...you need the right stats on your gear!!! that is actually the most important part. for example if you have berzerker stats (power, precision, ferocity) don't take weapon that inflicts poison, bleeding, burn etc. that condition damage is for stats that have condition damage and extend their duration like "viper's" gear for example
It is a bit of a personal thing but I do recommend playing the story in order instead of jumping around for mounts and gliding since all the story is like a long arc so it won´t make sense if you don´t play it in order. If you don´t mind that then go right ahead and cherry pick the masteries. Make sure to have fun :)
At launch there were no mounts and we didn't feel burdened running everywhere. If you want a painful experience walking everywhere that would be Lord of the Rings. There's so many hidden little nooks and crannies in this game that you blow right past them if you ride your mount. I would say mounts are for people that have at least experienced every map all the way through and even then without guides you still won't know if you missed a jumping puzzle somewhere are all the diving goggles to get the achievement
I just started playing this past week and I'm LOVING it. I love the focus on story and exploration. My plan is to pick up the first two expansions (mostly because they're bundled together so I'll get two instead of just one) and slowly playing through the content, finishing the personal story/living world season stories and then moving forward to the next expansion. I don't want to rush nor do I want to feel like I'm lost. Guild Wars 2 is really good at filling in new players on how things work/are laid out and I love that. I've tried MMO's and felt lost the whole time I played it. GW2 really lets you know what to do without holding your hand and lets you make your character your own. I love it!
my daily casual play are - [xx:00 - xx:10] Octovine meta (gives ton of mats and 10-15 rare unidentified gear for glob ectoplasm) - [xx:10 - xx:15/20] dragonstorm for 2 gold and 6 memories of aurene - [xx:20 - xx:30] drakkar if possible - [xx:30 - xx:45] Aetherblade - [>xx:45] jade runsetone farm, esiest on tengu's trial jp, and couple chest on echovald wild log out then i'll login for next octovine
for daily, do pvp, sometimes 1 game is enough and if you want to focus on pvp, you need to play unranked to "pvplevel" 20, then you can do ranked pvp and here the rewards get so SOO much better
You should try and unlock elite specialization. They will make your class more engaging and more fun to play. Berserker and Spellbreaker are way easier to grasp than Bladesworn.
go necro / reaper - with a focus on minion master skills for pve - staff / greatsword combo ( get a mix of carrion and vipers stats - carrion for getting more life, viper for more damage ) - hands down one of the most powerful pve characters, it's my main class in pve. - for wvw / pvp - the thief / guardian / mesmer / engineer are the preferred choices, thief most annoying, as they go stealth attack and go stealth again...they can be major pitas in wvw!! all classes can be played, but those have the best tools for survivability in wvw / pvp.- necro / scourge for wvw also, but harder to play vs real players as the damage is intense in wvw and getting swarmed by 30+ players is common so you want characters that are good at stealth and getting away fast when you see the enemy zerg coming your way lol - the best necro builds can be somewhat glass cannon compared to others, but for pve it has more space for strategy as you can have your minions cover you while you do major aoe damage from a distance, then go in with greatsword for the kill - minion master doesn't work for wvw as your minions get wiped out as soon as you cast them. - the warrior used to be one of the best in early days of game, but overtime it got nerfed heavily so it's no longer a top choice. For mount, the skyscale is must own for pve content - especially with the new secrets of obscure release. ( get it from secret release, easier to grind ) - for wvw - only warclaw mount works there, it's more a novelty than must have for wvw as it doesn't move much faster than just running or teleporting. the turtle is the most fun for me...feels like a limo haha enjoy!
You only need ascended+ gear for fractals - specifically tiers 2 and above. One easy way to earn gold are the Icebrood Saga (IBS) strikes + Dragonstorm (DS) - roughly 10 gold for 30 minutes of your time, possibly a lot more due to rare drops. Do note that it will take longer with more inexperienced players. Ps. Don't sell your Mystic Coins.
Don't rush it. Gw2 is not like other MMOs where its like: most of the game is just filler you have to grind through to get to the good stuff. In Gw2 it's all good stuff (... ok mostly^^). And if you don't like the map you are currently on, you can just go the another area. Battlegrounds got stale? Just go in the jungel^^ you can instantly be in the startkng area of everyone else
I am new to the game but, I saw an NPC who was selling raptor mount in exchange for money for a limited period of time. I have expansion and I have a raptor but that was that NPC text saying.
Ascended gear is only necessary for high tier fractals for the sake of adding agony resistance. Outside of that exotic will let you do ALL other content. There is a difference of what? 10% or 15% stats which only matter in pve, it does not carry over to pvp
The gear stat system in guildwars 2 is quite different from other mmos, specially something like wow or FFXIV. WHile i agree exotics is your first step, please pay attention to the stats. Depending on your spec and what role you want to play, you will want a different stat combination on your gear. Nowadays you can basically get a set of berserkers and be okay with every profession, but depending on spec, you will want condition gear, which usually is vipers stat. This is complicated, so do a bit of research. Also don't be afraid to add get a stat combination with a bit of vitality starting out. Exotics might seem expensive and sound extravagant but they are actually quite easy to get so don't worry too much buying a set that you might need to replace later for instanced content. You will get more than enough gold from dailies to get a lot of exotic gear. Now runes and sigils is the other part of gearing, and the more expensive one starting out. Again, do some research. You do not need to run "best in slot" runes and sigils. There are quite a few runes that will be much cheaper and will still give you very good results, specially in open world, the same thing with sigils. Do some research, and honestly if you can't find anything online, just read the sigil and rune effects, as long as its superior and its giving you the stat you want (starting out probably power, precision, ferocity or condition damage) you'll probably be fine. This is too long already hope it helps.
That's justified. I can only speak for this game but I would say you don't have to buy ALL of the expansions at first. Honestly $30 for the first two expansions alone would keep you busy with great content for a while. Enjoy it piece by piece, not all at once. I still haven't bought the expansion that came out last year because I'm probably not going to touch it for a while. And those first two expansions every now and then go on sale for $15. It's just a different kind of offering.
In the main cities and at boss events guilds are regularly recruiting but if you have players you regularly interact with you can also ask them for an invite into their guild.
If you are like me and reinstall TESO, SWTOR and WOW 4 times a year and stop playing after a week because everything feels trivial, you cannot ever die leveling or doing openworld stuff. This game is different, you actually lose HP and can easily die.
4:25, good take. enjoy your time and play the game how you want. Initially getting ascended will give you a what? 16% damage increase i believe overall and legendaries you can swap stats and gear share among your characters. Takes a while to get but its worth it! Enjoy everyone o/
Great job on the video. I've been playing GW2 since the beta and I always hear people "It doesn't matter what race you choose" or profession. This is nonsense, if you're a new player and you hate the snow and you select Norn you're not going to like the game environment very much and may quit the game. The same with barren landscapes and the Char so it really does matter. Also, the Char jump with all fours and can really be tricky especially on jumping puzzles, Norn can be so tall that in caves you have camera issues, Asura can be tough jumping as well because they are tiny. Professions also matter some of them are very difficult to master and are only effective at higher levels so an Ele or Assassin might seem great to start with but dying over and over sucks, Guardian seems cool but you get so frustrated you give up the game. Don't be afraid to try different various professions in PVP also don't be afraid to kill off lower level characters until you find the right combination of race and prof. I hope this was helpful.
Brand new to gw2, use gw2 wiki event timers, run meta events like octovine, go to the eye of the north run dragonstorm public. Couple of things that are easily accessible and reward stuff you can sell on TP for gold

What you probably mostly see is the Skyscale when people are just hovering in the air. You can view how to unlock them there. Both require multiple steps to unlock. Griffon you need to at least have the Path of Fire expansion and for the Skyscale either Living World Season 4 or Secrets of the Obscure.
I highly recommend completing Hart Of Thorns, (HOT) as you are given a FREE Ascended Weapon by completing an achievement, Quest. (Caladbolg) It comes in 6 versions, each with your choice of the core trait lines as with other such high-end gear. Its A great weapon to have in your inventory. Also, when starting out, Think Small. You get overwhelmed when your inundated by info. So just focus on the moment, get to know your character, all the buttons and how to navigate your UI and options. Weather your life story driven content or not this game is AWSOM if you take time in the start to learn it and above all, ASK QUESTIONS. Our community in open world is real kind and many of us like helping others acclimate. :) Happy gaming all.

I'm also one of the veteran players amongst others here. Concerning earning gold:
1. Gold isn't all that matters. You get a lot of materials that you can use for crafting. And crafting your own gear can replace buying it and spending gold in the first place.
2. Sell your items on the trading post and not to NPC-vendors. (Just rightclick the item and "sell on the tradingpost") Other players pay much more gold than NPCs
3. As a solid goldfarm and if you wanna look into group-content, fractals are a great option. They start of very easy. But also the hardest fractals on challenge mode are among the hardest content ingame. It makes for very good gold per hour and you can earn ascended gear through it. The more difficult they get (and the better you get) the more rewards and gold you get.

I think the most important thing to consider when it comes to GW2, especially if you are coming from other MMOs is the horizontal progressions. Actual horizontal progression. No content is irrelevant and you are not pulled on a string to the latest released bit. End game is whatever you choose to do and it starts as soon as you step out of the tutorial. Do not fall into the mistake of rushing through the game thinking it's just there to get to the latest content. You will miss most of what's on offer that way.
Some players need a carrot dangled in front of them to play a game, and that's fine. Here, you have to choose your own carrot as the game doesn't force you in any direction. It's the reason why so many like this game, and it's the reason why some complain about lack of incentives. Try it and see if it's something you enjoy. Ultimately, having fun is all that matters.
This is just a little fun fact. When you buy the expansions they usually give you a level 80 character boost. I wouldn’t recommend boosting a new character to level 80 until/unless you know how to play and build them. Otherwise you’re hit with every available skill and build at once and it can be very overwhelming to try and put a good and viable build together while still learning the basic mechanics of that particular class. Now here is the fun fact: when you use the character boost it not only makes you level 80 but also gives you a full set of exotic gear and weapons AND 4 fifteen slot bags as well. It also completes all of your hero points making every core skill and build complete (which needs to be complete in order to start working on your elite specializations). So even if you’re level 79 and you use it you can still reap a massive benefit in gear, weapons and bag space.
That's what I did! 😅 got my first character to lvl 80 and used a boost to get gear hahaha.
Pretty sure that it only works that way if you use it _after_ reaching level 80...

I think using terms like "end game content" should be bit more precise knowing how GW2 works in general. Like you correctly said, you're chasing experiences, so, for most people end game is a thing where most players come to and engage in regular basis (to progress or whatever), like its like THE GOAL to get there, which is not here :)
You have classical instanced content (dungeons,raids,fractals,strikes) but huuuuuge chunk of game is a open world and stuff assosiated with it (ie. progress,lvl,masteries,achivments,collections) so you can avoid instance content and progress. Ofcourse there are some type of rewards available only in those instanced content (skins, requairement for collection achivment etc) but nothing there is "required" for you to lvl up, get best gear, unlock masteries, enjoy story etc. basic stuff.
Also small tip for you my guy - if you go for a meta event (like in video for tequatl) please use LFG. Every map can have multiple instances. How to change it? If you are in a party/squad you can "join" their instance (but only if both of you are in the same map), so use LFG to find squad and believe me there will be squads if meta is about to start :) join squad and then RIGHT CLICK ON COMMANDER AND JOIN HIS INSTANCE. It is important because you might end up in a instance where ppl jumped out to different instances. Its a common thing to do so get used to it.
So again, teleport to map you wanna do, use lfg and join commander instance.

Awesome video!! I've been focusing the core game first, but you've convinced me to start unlocking gliding and more mounts. I've been running around as 80 for a while doing various content basically completing all the core game maps and whatnot. I've been having fun, but I do want to get to the other expansions. I did buy End of Dragons as well which I haven't dove into at all yet, and I got some living world content complete already. My main goal was to play through the story of the game in a linear fashion, but people have told me that overall it doesn't matter when I do what. The game itself is very story driven!
Your experience with this game is exactly as mine when I first started playin it! Though I was interested in it when it was first announced and I gave it some try. I'll admit that It sucked that there were no mounts so quit pretty fast. Years went by and when I saw mounts that are to be introduced in PoF, that's what got me interested. They looked so cool and unique and man, loved Raptor from the very first moment I saw it.
So yeah, got just Raptor while avoiding any spoilers from PoF and then went back to core maps just to explore and finish them all. No rush, chill play and it was all I needed. It helped me to know the game a little bit more and by the time I have completed core maps I was hooked.
I was sick of Wow and Gw2 turned out to be perfect replacement. I have paid for Wow sub and felt that I must play it otherwise I just wasted my money! Gw2 is the tottal opposite. I love how alt friendly this game is. It's just so cool how often I play other proffesions and the fact that masteries are bound to my account progression makes it even more enjoyable.
Great video! GW2 is literally such a favorite game of my husband and mine. You may/probably already know this, but I was wasn't sure if you said "a world event" or world events, and since I didn't hear the other world events mentioned just wanted to suggest trying out the other world events in Frostgorge Sound, Metrical Provice, Wayfarer Foothills... there should be a world event in every starter area except for the Charr starter :)

For pvp reward earner daily, easiest and fastest to get this is:
Once you got some pvp potions (from earlier dailies), you can just consume 2 potions and you'll get your daily instantly. If you have like 30+ at least, you'll be able to sustain this for a long time, since you'll get 1 potion out of the 2 back. Same goes for the wvw big spender.
Make sure you finish your 6 rune set bonus (get 1 more superior rune of strength)! The 6th bonus is usually the biggest boost. However in the new expansion this is going to change.
If you want fast gold, go fractals. Once you get some unlocked bonusses you can get between 30-50 gold a day for about an hour's worth of gameplay.
I've been playing this game for 10+ years, so it's hard for me to go back to when I started. Nice to see your perspective!

The Jackal when you press 1 it hits your allies and gives them a really good shield one of the best in the game, It goes hand and hand with my healer. I thought it would be great to mention that People should use the LFG More, I see a lot of the newer players not using it. It is amazing to get yourself used to, HP Trains and everything, groups for Meta's even Daily's.. It will also get you into a more filled instance with other players doing group activity. Nearly every map usually has atleast 1 group doing something.
As a day 1 veteran these are great beginner tips! Welcome to the community! :)
Ty dude found your video very useful i been playing for a few days now still making the biggest mistake wish is trying to decide what to play and create and delete characters lol but i want to focus on mounts as well, will take your advice.
Suggestions for new players
1. Don't get a mount early on. You absolutely do not need it to level. Zones are not that large, classes often have their own sort of speed or movement buff (if only temporary at times) and you can teleport to anywhere virtually any time for an insignificant amount of money
2. The journey is the majority of the fun in this game. Take your time, explorer zones, unlock things and areas. An 80 rush is a terrible way to play it.

Eh, I would tell my friend to use the mount to get to the next story quest if we have to run a ways after completing exploration, or we simply want to be lazy when finishing map exploration and simply rushing, but that's me. You're right that the exploration is the fun part and you don't need the mount for that. It will make 100% map completion a bit easier and quicker, tho. Most of the time, at least.
Been playing since the beginning, and of course I have all the mounts. I still run all the time. We ran for years and I like it still. I like to fight everything :)

My #1 tip to new players would be to get BlishHUD. (It's an overlay that shows you all the Masteries, Hero Points, etc. in your current map - among other things.)
#2 is get the Glider (Heart of Thorns) then Skimmer and Springer mounts (Path of Fire).
#3 play the Secrets of the Obscure expansion and work on unlocking the Skyscale mount to use outside the expansion.

Hey man, I did the exact same thing you did, but I used the level 80- boost. I was having a fantastic time just grinding out the areas, unlocking Vistas and exploring my main campaign as a Warrior. I used the boost and now have lost all ability to understand what's going on. I spent mulktiple hours iN PVP, making new builds and translating builds online, but your guide is all I really wanted, to unlock all the cool mounts before I started actually grinding out all the earlier maps the game has to offer. So, I'm gonna start where you did and see how it goes. The level 80 boost may have stunted my literal brain growth, but it def set me up for success.
Oh, you're in for a journey then. I did 100% for central tyria on two of my characters before HoT, and now I just get enough done to then grind out the rest of what I need to complete a target elite spec. My true main is the only one I actually try to 100% (and usually fail) any of the expansions. May get around to it in the future, may not. But then, GW2 is all about setting personal goals to do and then doing them. Makes completing those goals worthwhile.
Gonna be interesting when I roll a new character when my friend picks the game up, as I will do it all with her from the start and take her on that journey. Won't be the same for me as it will be for her, but it will give me at least a little of the vibe that I had the first time, and I can get the excitement from living vicariously on it again.

its so funny, I played back before mounts were in game,and running around was actually really fast because ppl learn to use their skills for movement! for example on ele, staff air 4 gives swiftness (speed buff), about-face staff fire 4 is a fast straight line (it goes backwards, thus do about face, the skill, then about face again rapidly), and dagger offhand air 4 is a very fast forward lightning dash (make sure ur not targeting a mob). on warrior I think greatsword 3 is a rapid directional spin in direction you selected, on ranger gs 3 is a far leap forward, iirc guardian gs3 is also a really long leap forward, and sword....2? 3? is a longish thrust forward. and in between cd, we usually would have swiftness as well (like ele air staff 4, guardian staff...2? or 3) etc etc. we also used to do things like ele put staff air 5 on ground for lightning field n everyone blast the field for long lasting group swiftness. 😂 honestly even today I would get off my mount, use ele dagger 4, then get back on mount 😂 I looooooove the new mounts, dont get me wrong, but before mounts it wasn't nearly as slow as ppl might think!
something people don't often think to check when they start the game is- all of the options and settings! there's so much customization available in the Control Options panel, where you can change any and all keybinds to things that you're more comfortable with!
speaking of, all mounts, after unlocking, you can set keybinds for them rather than having to swap through them with the tiny arrow box down right.
Oh! and if you're a fan of being all up in the combat, setting up the keybind for "Toggle Action Camera" is good because action camera mode is much more engaging imo, but plenty of people actually prefer the standard camera mode, so give it a try.
4:30 this is exactly right! Ascended (pink quality) gear is only about a 5% stat boost over Exotic (orange quality) gear and Legendary gear has the same stats as ascended with the ability to freely swap what stat combo its using at any time out of combat. You can pretty much run any non-fractal endgame content with full exotics. The important thing to look for are the stat combos on your gear. For example if you're running a power build you want mainly power (raw strike damage increase), precision (critical hit chance), and ferocity (critical hit damage). For condition based builds you probably also want to get Condition Damage (self explanatory) and Expertise (increases duration of conditions you apply). Theres a whole bunch of fun stat combinations out there!
I'm not much into story and I did some research and did just this. Heart of thorns maps have a lot of verticalliy and until you grind out the masteries to level all of your skills can be a bit irritating. With the raptor and springer, it's much easier to navigate the Heart of thorns maps to get to the masteries you need. Also just jumping into world vs world for 30 minutes a day (kill a veteran mob, kill a guard etc) , you can work up to some very nice rewards and gear as well. The game has multiple ways for you to get good things no matter what your interests. I think as a new player, don't get into crafting right away. Sell, sell, sell on the trading post. all of those silvers add up and can net you some starting gold. You'd be surprised how much gold from plain materials that sell for coppers and silvers you can net by doing this. Then start crafting if you want.
That's true, but crafting, if you're wiling to invest the time for it early on, speeds up leveling and can get you nifty gear that meets your exact specifications or wants. Either selling mats and then doing crafting down the line, or building the crafting as you go, are viable methods.
For mounts, there are also griffon, roller beetle, skyscale, and the siege turtle.
The next is the warclaw, but that one is tied to WvW progression.
I played since launch and they had no intentions on mounts and it wasn’t until the second expansion which brought mounts. Walking/Running is still very viable. First thing new players should do is just play the story and explore the areas they are lead to be in through the story. The leveling is to learn the class then when at 80 start looking at specializations but continue playing the story and exploring. I am currently replaying the whole story line from the beginning on a new character since it has been years since I first completed it.
Well said, I agree. Yeah it was interesting to me that mounts were introduced so much later. While viable, I still find walking/running to be not as fun as mounts. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a large influx of new players when they put mounts in for PoF. They kind of nailed it.

On my main which is a thief, I have more mobility through skills than my mount if it's on land. Griffon always is best if I have a high starting spot.
Especially since build templates were implemented, I can quickly change to daredevil and back into my shadow arts build but to move if I'm minmaxing my movement in wvw lol.
Playing without mounts is horrible
I personally choose to play the entire core game to 100% world completion without mounts or gliding, even though I could've just unlocked them and went back. It ultimately made getting them significantly more rewarding for me. The base game was made without the intention of extra mobility. Therefore, in my opinion, it wasn't bad at all.

i've been looking for an mmo to play, i bought gw2 when it came out like a decade ago but never really got into it, seeing this video makes me wanna try it
I started playing 2 weeks ago and I started a border champion. She is lvl 32 and she is so fun. The mechanics are a little confusing, still apeacilly ong big bosses that are around the road, and they have a bunch of spawns around them. But the healing ability with staves love it. Plus it it makes damage as I hit everything around me. Bonus.... I can't wait to get to lvl 80 and explore fully everything. This game is such a cool experience, a relief from the mindless grind that has no point other than to spend your real money on a "proactive" way (yes, I'm makiing fun of the wow subscription)
I also love the fact that expansions matter in here. Unlike other games where past expansions get forgotten. WoTLK love you..... 😢

GW2 is all about exploration, becoming more efficient with your class/profession, and completion of collections to get the fancier armor and weapon skins that isn't from the cash shop.
You can solo a lot of if not all of open world content with exotic gear on the right build. Some builds use even the most basic stat combination and rune set, too.

I have been playing this game since it came out in 2012, and i just got my 2nd mount like 3 months. The only mount Im missing now is the Warclaw. Im still learning this game. you gave beginner players some valuable info. I bought a couple of things that I wish I would have known sooner, but has been helping me out now. 1: armor boost cannister through the BLT. It boost your armor for 11 hours, 5 for 150 gems. 2: copper salvagematic. You use it to turn unidentifiable gear, and other things in your inventory into sellable stuff. It cost a couple of copper to use it, but you make it back. Get your Griffon, and dont worry about the Skyscale. When the new expansion drops on the 22nd of this month, everybody that doesnt have a Skyscale will have the opportunity to use the Skyscale . They are making it easier to get. But getting the Griffon will open up more of your map.👍
Heads up, don’t buy armor repair cans, just hit the anvil in any town and you will get same buff. 😅
I also highly advice always identifying your unidentified gear before salvaging it. It has a fairly good chance to get promoted to a higher tier when identifying it and even has a chance to drop legendary precursors, making it more profitable. Also dont salvage rare gear with the copperfed salvagomatic, but instead use mystic salvage kit (its pretty cheap to make and has 250 charges with the same effectiveness as a masters salvage kit) which heightens the likelyhood of it dropping higher grade materials like ectoplasms that are essential materials for ascended gear crafting.
As still somewhat of a noob in Guild Wars 2, although I've been playing for almost 6 years now, I'd like to suggest getting the "Seasons of the Dragons" achievement that rewards you a legendary amulet. It's not fast, but it's really fun, or at least it was for me. Also it was my way to get my first legendary gear before finally crafting Aurene's Bite a month ago. Also now with the addition of the Wizard's vault you can get ascended gear pretty easily. You don't really need any legendary gear unless you want to feel special as ascended has the same stats as legendary, the only difference is that you can use your legendary gear on multiple characters with different stats selected and you can even change the selected stats whenever you want to. So basically legendary gear is just for your conveniece, ascended will do the job just as well.
Yes, the exotic gear is fine for everything besides high-level fractals...usually the story and leveling introduces you to most content the more you go on:
- for dungeons you get mail that sends to the right one for that story level (there's story in dungeons, yes, parallel to the main one, but explains some things)
- you get send to fractals after some pieces of Living World Season 1
- in season 1 you get to WvW for a story mission
- season 1 introduces instanced world events (in public instances)
the only things you will not be led to in the slightest, if not by achievements, are PvP and Raids...and maybe strike missions
Oh I'm gonna have to keep going in season 1 then. Didn't realize it naturally introduces you to those things.
@@Mario_Universe Less requiring you to do the fractals, though the instanced dungeons (The Tower of Nightmares, The Battle of Lion's Arch, and The Breachmaker) are story required for S1. They were fun, I admit, but I will also admit that I am perfectly fine with them simply being a one and done for me. At least for now.
I recommend new players to just enjoy the game how it was for us in the beginning without mounts. Just don't rush stuff. However if you are impatient and want to do everything fast, then I recommend joining some guild and help them rush you through the game, getting mounts and stuff. But that is a grind for a few weeks, before you really start enjoying the game itself. I've seen a lot of new players rushing to 80, gearing up getting stuff fast and then leave the game because they thought that was it...
Yeah this was pretty spot on imo and yes exotic is good enough until you need ascended.

Tequatl also has a chance to drop a best in slot weapon/armor choice box. Very nice, if you are still gearing up :) You can change the stats in the mystic forge (wiki has the recipie)
And every enemy has a rare, vanishingly rare, chance to drop a legendary weapon so you can skip the highly involved process to make one via the Mystic Forge. Or be lazy and buy one from the Trading Post if you have the gold.
And Tequatl is one of the harder world bosses for a reason. Not the Triple Trouble Wurms, which is insane and requires very precise coordination, but he is one of the harder one. Very worth it, though.
One piece of advice for newcomers who don't use an _Instant Level 80_ ticket: Just exploring the 5 beginning cities and Lion's Arch (finding the Points of Interest, Vistas, etc) will get a player to at least level 10 without running into difficult situations.
Also, regarding those tickets; Don't use them. If you progress to level 80 normally (which you can actually do fairly rapidly), and _then_ use the "Instant Level 80" ticket, it will instead give you a full set of Exotic Armor, Accessories and a selection of weapons - All max level...
Okay this is a little misinformed because you still get the full set of Celestial regardless of level. The real reason to actually save the ticket is because you're skipping a large amount of "first time experience". You get chucked in, full utilities, traits and gear, and you have no idea where the hell you are or what the hell you're doing. You're gonna have so much information flooded, and it puts most people off the game. I would suggest newcomers level one character normally to 80, and save your skip for later characters instead.

I have 8 characters (one of each class except Revenant) and I've never used one of the "Instant Level" tickets before reaching 80. Not because I thought I wouldn't get loot, but because I enjoy leveling normally and learning while exploring. In my younger days, MMO grinding could be incredibly tedious and leveling in GW2 is pretty easy, rapid and enjoyable - So I can't really disagree with you...

You are doing this correctly, you are having fun first then work your way up to ascended gear. It's a few points difference.
Gear rarity almost doesn't matter once you have a set of exotic. Ascended gear, which is the next tier up is about 10% higher stat, while Legendaries have the same state as ascended gears except you can change the stat combo on demand. Once you have a set of exotic with the right combination of stat, you're pretty much good.
What's more important in this game is the buffs you give and get with other players in a group play. A full stack (25) of might (power) buff gives you +750 Power and +750 Condition Damage, making the 10% stat increase in gear improvement insignificant.
There is a world event in pretty much every map. Players call them "map meta-event".

also on the trial raptor for f2p, if the trial ends and you still wanna have the raptor just create new slot get it to lvl 10 (do not press the trial reward) change back to your main and just click it and thats it your raptor is back but will still be in trial. (also please do giveaways if you have some expansion key to share)

In PvP, your equipment dont affect you directly, but there is a catch.
If you dont wear minimum 3 armour pieces, your PvP amulet has around 75% reduced stats. But the armour piece can be any lvl and any rarity, that wont affect it
and obviously need weapons to use their skills-
With exotiC gear you can do 90% of the conted of the game baisicly besides Fractals witch have a mecanic named "Agony Resistanse" and only Ascendent gear can can recive agony infusions so you can do the end game fractals.
Every thing esle you dont realy need more then exotic but it will be a little esyear if you have ascedent because the diference on status on ascendent i think around 5% more on every stat then exotic as but the agony infusions system is only need for Fractals Tier 2, 3 and 4.
Also you have legendary but that gear as the same status as ascendent ass but they are more beatifull and you can switch stats when ever you want because with ascendent you build the gear a lets say Berserker status and you need to build another one if you want to play like some other builds with legendary you look cooler and just need one set of itens for every build and also they are expencive so you can get some good gold from legy itens.
The best advice I ever give to new players is that there is a button to store materials into the bank from your inventory panel (usable from anywhere in the world). XD
Don't save your hero points, you will have it all unlocked at lvl 80. Don't worry about your armor and weapon rarity until lvl 80, just use what you find. If you aren't sure what to sell or salvage, use the built in /wiki command in the chat. Don't save the "essence of luck" orbs, consume them- it is an account wide boost that is NOT on a timer. Learn to dodge and/or walk through enemies to evade attacks.
If the best advice is the bank material button, then the 2nd best advice is to go into settings and disable the compact items button right next to the deposit. Wish i knew that earlier, would have saved me a lot of inventory re-management
you are not wrong. exotic gear is not too down below ascended. However, considering your profession, weapon choice, traits you chose...you need the right stats on your gear!!!
that is actually the most important part. for example if you have berzerker stats (power, precision, ferocity) don't take weapon that inflicts poison, bleeding, burn etc.
that condition damage is for stats that have condition damage and extend their duration like "viper's" gear for example
It is a bit of a personal thing but I do recommend playing the story in order instead of jumping around for mounts and gliding since all the story is like a long arc so it won´t make sense if you don´t play it in order. If you don´t mind that then go right ahead and cherry pick the masteries. Make sure to have fun :)
At launch there were no mounts and we didn't feel burdened running everywhere. If you want a painful experience walking everywhere that would be Lord of the Rings. There's so many hidden little nooks and crannies in this game that you blow right past them if you ride your mount. I would say mounts are for people that have at least experienced every map all the way through and even then without guides you still won't know if you missed a jumping puzzle somewhere are all the diving goggles to get the achievement
I played since release and quit, came back on oath of fire and olayed for a few months and quit again, its so tempting to come back

Beautifull game. I fell in love with it.
I just started playing this past week and I'm LOVING it. I love the focus on story and exploration. My plan is to pick up the first two expansions (mostly because they're bundled together so I'll get two instead of just one) and slowly playing through the content, finishing the personal story/living world season stories and then moving forward to the next expansion. I don't want to rush nor do I want to feel like I'm lost. Guild Wars 2 is really good at filling in new players on how things work/are laid out and I love that. I've tried MMO's and felt lost the whole time I played it. GW2 really lets you know what to do without holding your hand and lets you make your character your own. I love it!

for daily, do pvp, sometimes 1 game is enough and if you want to focus on pvp, you need to play unranked to "pvplevel" 20, then you can do ranked pvp and here the rewards get so SOO much better

You should try and unlock elite specialization. They will make your class more engaging and more fun to play. Berserker and Spellbreaker are way easier to grasp than Bladesworn.
I'm new to the game and I'm in love with Berserker I never imagined being a warrior with a torch would be so much fun! I simply love it :)
go necro / reaper - with a focus on minion master skills for pve - staff / greatsword combo ( get a mix of carrion and vipers stats - carrion for getting more life, viper for more damage ) - hands down one of the most powerful pve characters, it's my main class in pve. - for wvw / pvp - the thief / guardian / mesmer / engineer are the preferred choices, thief most annoying, as they go stealth attack and go stealth again...they can be major pitas in wvw!! all classes can be played, but those have the best tools for survivability in wvw / pvp.- necro / scourge for wvw also, but harder to play vs real players as the damage is intense in wvw and getting swarmed by 30+ players is common so you want characters that are good at stealth and getting away fast when you see the enemy zerg coming your way lol - the best necro builds can be somewhat glass cannon compared to others, but for pve it has more space for strategy as you can have your minions cover you while you do major aoe damage from a distance, then go in with greatsword for the kill - minion master doesn't work for wvw as your minions get wiped out as soon as you cast them.
- the warrior used to be one of the best in early days of game, but overtime it got nerfed heavily so it's no longer a top choice. For mount, the skyscale is must own for pve content - especially with the new secrets of obscure release. ( get it from secret release, easier to grind ) - for wvw - only warclaw mount works there, it's more a novelty than must have for wvw as it doesn't move much faster than just running or teleporting. the turtle is the most fun for me...feels like a limo haha enjoy!
You only need ascended+ gear for fractals - specifically tiers 2 and above. One easy way to earn gold are the Icebrood Saga (IBS) strikes + Dragonstorm (DS) - roughly 10 gold for 30 minutes of your time, possibly a lot more due to rare drops. Do note that it will take longer with more inexperienced players.
Ps. Don't sell your Mystic Coins.

Gw2 is not like other MMOs where its like: most of the game is just filler you have to grind through to get to the good stuff. In Gw2 it's all good stuff (... ok mostly^^).
And if you don't like the map you are currently on, you can just go the another area. Battlegrounds got stale? Just go in the jungel^^ you can instantly be in the startkng area of everyone else

What do you need gold for if you dont get any stronger and are stuck lvl 80?
Ascended gear is only necessary for high tier fractals for the sake of adding agony resistance. Outside of that exotic will let you do ALL other content. There is a difference of what? 10% or 15% stats which only matter in pve, it does not carry over to pvp
The gear stat system in guildwars 2 is quite different from other mmos, specially something like wow or FFXIV. WHile i agree exotics is your first step, please pay attention to the stats. Depending on your spec and what role you want to play, you will want a different stat combination on your gear. Nowadays you can basically get a set of berserkers and be okay with every profession, but depending on spec, you will want condition gear, which usually is vipers stat. This is complicated, so do a bit of research. Also don't be afraid to add get a stat combination with a bit of vitality starting out. Exotics might seem expensive and sound extravagant but they are actually quite easy to get so don't worry too much buying a set that you might need to replace later for instanced content. You will get more than enough gold from dailies to get a lot of exotic gear. Now runes and sigils is the other part of gearing, and the more expensive one starting out. Again, do some research. You do not need to run "best in slot" runes and sigils. There are quite a few runes that will be much cheaper and will still give you very good results, specially in open world, the same thing with sigils. Do some research, and honestly if you can't find anything online, just read the sigil and rune effects, as long as its superior and its giving you the stat you want (starting out probably power, precision, ferocity or condition damage) you'll probably be fine. The part the really keeps be away from MMOs are the expansions. Sure the game is free but there is $130 worth of content I have to buy.
That's justified. I can only speak for this game but I would say you don't have to buy ALL of the expansions at first. Honestly $30 for the first two expansions alone would keep you busy with great content for a while. Enjoy it piece by piece, not all at once. I still haven't bought the expansion that came out last year because I'm probably not going to touch it for a while. And those first two expansions every now and then go on sale for $15. It's just a different kind of offering.

In the main cities and at boss events guilds are regularly recruiting but if you have players you regularly interact with you can also ask them for an invite into their guild.
If you are like me and reinstall TESO, SWTOR and WOW 4 times a year and stop playing after a week because everything feels trivial, you cannot ever die leveling or doing openworld stuff. This game is different, you actually lose HP and can easily die.

Initially getting ascended will give you a what? 16% damage increase i believe overall and legendaries you can swap stats and gear share among your characters. Takes a while to get but its worth it!

Great job on the video. I've been playing GW2 since the beta and I always hear people "It doesn't matter what race you choose" or profession. This is nonsense, if you're a new player and you hate the snow and you select Norn you're not going to like the game environment very much and may quit the game. The same with barren landscapes and the Char so it really does matter. Also, the Char jump with all fours and can really be tricky especially on jumping puzzles, Norn can be so tall that in caves you have camera issues, Asura can be tough jumping as well because they are tiny. Professions also matter some of them are very difficult to master and are only effective at higher levels so an Ele or Assassin might seem great to start with but dying over and over sucks, Guardian seems cool but you get so frustrated you give up the game. Don't be afraid to try different various professions in PVP also don't be afraid to kill off lower level characters until you find the right combination of race and prof. I hope this was helpful.
Brand new to gw2, use gw2 wiki event timers, run meta events like octovine, go to the eye of the north run dragonstorm public. Couple of things that are easily accessible and reward stuff you can sell on TP for gold
Games like these would be trending if it has better graphics and maybe social status like metaworld. There will be a mmorpg that take down all games i just have to wait for that type of content

That's the mount page in the wiki, the flying mounts are the Griffon and the Skyscale. What you probably mostly see is the Skyscale when people are just hovering in the air. You can view how to unlock them there. Both require multiple steps to unlock. Griffon you need to at least have the Path of Fire expansion and for the Skyscale either Living World Season 4 or Secrets of the Obscure.
I highly recommend completing Hart Of Thorns, (HOT) as you are given a FREE Ascended Weapon by completing an achievement, Quest. (Caladbolg) It comes in 6 versions, each with your choice of the core trait lines as with other such high-end gear. Its A great weapon to have in your inventory. Also, when starting out, Think Small. You get overwhelmed when your inundated by info. So just focus on the moment, get to know your character, all the buttons and how to navigate your UI and options. Weather your life story driven content or not this game is AWSOM if you take time in the start to learn it and above all, ASK QUESTIONS. Our community in open world is real kind and many of us like helping others acclimate. :) Happy gaming all.

Exotic gear is viable in 99% of endgame content. I wouldn't stress over ascended unless doing high tier fractals or strike challenge modes.
Correction: you get the Raptor at lvl 1 if you bought the DLC's, you get the trial mount at lvl 10
I wish AC had gliding, I suck at jumping quests...........
