  • I'm always looking for the BEST product out there. In this case, I'm in search of the best way to clean tires... in preparation for tire dressing. Auto Fanatic recently suggested Mineral Spirits in one of his videos, so I had to give them a try -- up against two degreasers and a dedicated wheel/tire cleaner from Eagle One. What do you think of the results?

    I don’t know how to respond to this video. I understand what you’re trying to do but the method is so very flawed. You “rubbed/agitated” the mineral spirits and just half a$$ed the application of the other 3 products. Put all products in a real spray bottle and then repeat the test to determine a winner. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate your effort but don’t agree with your process.

      +Chris Hayes I hear ya. I just figured with straight degreaser on a tire I cleaned a week ago that I might be okay with that method. I think what blew my mind was mineral spirits. Maybe for the “best” clean...I’ll use an APC/degreaser on tires first and agitate/rinse - then use mineral spirits as a final wipe down

    I use the mineral spirits,, just at the end to "test" the tire to make sure it's absolutely clean before putting on whatever Tire coating.

    Great vid man! I like the iK foamer sprayer if you’re looking for a replacement for your air gun foamer. I’ve used it for traffic film pre treatment and it’s awesome on engine bays and tires too. Just uses lots of product 👎🏻

      never heard of that stuff -im gonna look it up. I'm wondering if degreaser, scrub then mineral spirits would be the "best" deep clean for tires.

      @@HawkProDetailing I found out its all in the agittation unless your using a good powerwasher then let that agitate for you. The drillbrush with the flat brush attachment will work fast and you get a deep clean on your tires. Being mobile you got to find what works fast and good as well.

    They look decent to begin with. I just did the inside of a set of tires that never been dressed or cleaned from new, and the tire bloom was awful, and it took me numerous passes with a citrus based degreaser that’s stringer than my usual degreaser. I would love to see these tests on a seriously brown tire.

  • @SWAGURA
    @SWAGURA Před 5 lety

    OMS should only be used when prepping a tire for a new dressing and only that, so unless you're switching tire drrssing like every week there is no need to use mineral spirits every time.

    nice vid my man...there are tons of things you can use to clean a tire....rather than mineral spirits...you can use acetone...or dishwashing detergent...or laquer thinner....or...then again, just scrub that bad boy....

    • @HawkProDetailing
      @HawkProDetailing  Před 5 lety

      that's a great question. Auto Fanatic seems to suggest using it when you're switching tire dressings. I'm definitely going to do more research on mineral spirits to see what the long term consequence of using it on tires is

    What's your opinion on p&s brake buster for a wheel and tire combo with ceramic coated rims ?

  • @detailsbydavidllc8770
    @detailsbydavidllc8770 Před 5 lety

    The browning that you see in the tires that were cleaned with heavy degreaser is not dirt that is on the surface. The degreasers are so strong that they are bringing out the natural antiozonites inside the rubber that are meant to protect it. But yes mineral spirits is a good option but not something you should use on the regular as its very bad for rubber, good for removing silicone tire shines tho

    • @HawkProDetailing
      @HawkProDetailing  Před 5 lety +1

      usually anything that cleans super well...can also be damaging. well this is good to know! I think the best takeaway here is you can use mineral spirits to remove silicon tire shine, but stick to a less aggressive process otherwise.

    • @BRunkel07
      @BRunkel07 Před 5 lety

      This. I think Luke from Wilson Auto Detail talks a lot about antiozonites in his videos on tire cleaning. I still want to do more research for myself on it, but it seems like he’s on to something...
