Told me he thought I had a future at the D1 level and that he could work with me to get into a D1 school. I was so hyped! I spent all weekend practicing and telling my family about it. I called my coach about it and he said to come see him at school next week. I show up Monday morning and he’s in the commons area. He snatched up the card and said “When was this?! What did he say?!” So I explained it. He said he was calling the Better Business Bureau on him 😂 I kind of hung my head a bit because I felt like I got played by this scummy guy. Then he said, “son, you’re going to play D1 ball with or without this guy. You’ll actually have multiple choices if I had to guess. He’s just going to charge you hundreds of dollars to send out the same film we will send out.” I trusted in my coach and continued to work hard. By the end of the year, I had 5 different D1 offers. February 7th, I signed with a D1 team and we went on to win 2 conference titles. I got my degree and landed a 6 figure job a year out of college. He truly looked out for me. And in some ways, he’s a lot like Cus. Hard nosed, old school, and a father figure.

Respect is complicated! It can come from fear, for example if you know a guy can beat you up if you break his balls then you will respect him! It can also come from same values,principles, and curtain way of looking at life! For example if your friend shares the same beliefs as you, you most likely will respect him only for that! In the end respect can come for a mentor that helped built you up from nothing you will respect your high school wrestling coach even if you can beat him up!
