    After seeing them several times live, I’m convinced that Ale’s bass is what keeps everything together and why they have such a huge sound. She has such great tone…which is all in the fingers. This cover was made for Metallica's Blacklist album, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Metallica's Black album. Metallica invited 53 artists of all genres to cover the songs of the album, specifically asking them to go for it and reinvent the songs, not just do a straight cover. Most of the artists invited are well established, but most of them were too afraid to mess with a classic song and just did straight covers, just changing the vocals or guitar parts, but The Warning at this point still being 21, 19 & 16, were the ones who by far did the best re-imagining of their song. Also to be noted that they were invited last minute and had only a week to re-arrange, record, mix & master the song.

    I much prefer this version of the song over the original cuz the original has been overplayed for a while now. They did exactly what James said he wanted all the artists on the Blacklist album to do, keep the original melody but make it your own, and they knocked it out of the park like they usually do. I love Dany's body language at the beginning of every live performance of this song, you can tell she's grooving to it. Happy Dany Day!

    Loved the reaction video. Yeah - they are SO talented. OMG. Here's a true story: Just this morning, I stopped in at a breakfast diner, in a town, about an hour away from home. This is one of those places that's only open for breakfast and lunch and the median age of the customers is right around 65. I'm sitting there, sipping on the overly bitter coffee that they served me, waiting for my order to arrive. It dawned on me that there was a familiar song playing in the background music. Now, this is a place that I eat at a few times a month, so I know that the music is pretty much top-10 songs of years far, far gone by - pretty much elevator music. So, it was a surprise realization that the song that was playing, today, was Metallica's 'Enter Sandman'. I remember back to the days of 30+ years ago when this song was the hottest song on the planet. It always commanded attention, yet today I could barely be bothered to care about it. In fact, my brain almost didn't bring the song to my conscious thoughts. It was, for all all intents and purposes, just elevator music - a memory of a song far from what it was, back in its glory days. I bring up this story because it was another revelation that there is something truly incredible about The Warning and their music. Their cover of this song draws out emotions and feelings. It touches those confortable memories of yesterday, but brings out a sense of mystery. It actually seems to touch the soul in ways that the original just didn't do or, perhaps, just no longer does. The arrangement is brilliant and pays homage to the original, yet could still be considered to be a different song, much as Slipknot's renditions of 'Vermillion' (1, 2 and 3) are the same basic song, but differ in many ways. Dany, Pau and Ale were just amazingly brilliant in re-constructing this classic and the performance is out of this world. It is mind blowing that this song was written, practiced, recorded, mixed and presented to Metallica for inclusion on their 'Blacklist' ablum within a period of just 10 days. The album version includes vocals from Alessia Cara at the beginning and as backing vocals in various parts of the song. Insanity.

    This performance is much better than the original one with Alessia Cara. Dani's voice is a mixure of soft and heavy tones, Ale's tones are superb and Pau's battey is completely heavy. They finish the song as if they were on the forefront of the heavy metal world. Metallica must be proud of the BEST version of their fantastic Enter Sandman song.

    Bob, I think we all were figuring you would like this one for sure.
    I have to admit, I am not a Metallica fan, and I was sick of this song, until this version came along. A lullaby where Alessia very sweetly puts you to bed, then Dany rouses the troops, shares a little prayer, and the angel chorus comes to sing you to sleep, then Boom, the hammer drops. I think of this very much as the female version of the tale. So good. Delicate, powerful, soothing, strong, gentle, fierce-all at the same time. I love this one.
    Live, this one is amazing. When Ale drops down to the B string, it hits you square in the chest and stops you cold.
    I never knew I needed Enter Sandman rhythm section in half time until I heard this.
    And remember, all this sound from just three of them.

    Bob, I saw The Warning in Cincinnati last night and they were great! Pau's intensity and charisma behind the kit is a joy to watch. For me it was fascinating to watch how smoothly she sings while playing. Dani is a great frontwoman who played with the crowd and was so quick reacting to anything that she could hear us saying. There was a slight error (no pun intended) where she was playing with a clean tone where it should have been distorted, but she recovered so fast that I doubt many people in the crowd noticed. The sisters all had a smile about it. Ale was rock solid as always. Her stage moves that you see in their live videos - the crouch, the hair flip, the wide stance - she cycled through those a few times during the night. They were incredibly tight as a band, so much so that they reminded me of Rush in that aspect. Great show that went by way too fast.

That's really cool that you were able to take your kids to see John Williams. When was that? The next event we're thinking of going to is also in Cincinnati. It's called "A New World: Intimate Music from FINAL FANTASY" and looks like it's music from the Final Fantasy series played by an expanded string section with a modern drummer. Other than that, the only concert on our calendar is Liliac in Columbus a couple of days before my wife's birthday. I don't believe you've taken a look at that family band.

    @robertkrawitz8237 Před rokem +8

    This is nothing short of brilliant, and I enjoyed your analysis. I think it's a much more interesting song than the original. A few observations:
    1) The contrast between the two verses: the first verse has more of a slow rhythm & blues feel (it's the one Alessia Cara sang in the Blacklist version; Dany of course sings it much heavier) until the abrupt three chords leading into the chorus while the second, which Dany has always sung, is straightforward rock. They're not in the habit of doing the same thing twice, and it really helps emphasize the partnership in the original.
    2) The recitation: I wouldn't call Dany's delivery laid back at all. The backing music is obviously in half, if not quarter, time, but her delivery is angry and defiant (the 2022 version of Dany as the Queen of the Murder Scene would surely have defeated the Grim Reaper in Hunter). It's very different, not only from James Hetfield's creepy version and Pau's eerie speech in the video, but it has also evolved from the desperation with which she recited it when they first performed it (early last year).
    3) The buildup out of that section is thrilling. Metallica does it almost as an afterthought, while The Warning have fashioned it into a a tremendous buildup into the closing of the song. They've managed to add back in, whether by track or by all three sisters, the vocalise backing into the second two repetitions.
    4) The ending is really "yep, we can do Metallica, but we're The Warning so we're going to do it The Warning way". Pau's a lot more involved in it, not simply keeping time, but contributing to the melodic line. It's a little hard to spot in this video, but when there's room on stage Dany and Ale cross over during it, putting Dany stage right so the Ale fans get some Dany time and vice versa, and they then give each other a quick high five on the way back.

    Hey Bob. It's really hard to reimagine a song and make it your own. Especially with a song as well known as this. But ,they pulled it off spectacularly. Metallica even told them to rearrange it. They said that they didn't care if it was turned upside down or played backwards. Alessia Cara was originally asked by Metallica for the Blacklist album. She and The Warning have the same management. It was done during Covid, so Alessia recorded in Canada and TW in Mexico, all within 10 days. In the MV, Pau did the prayer. Pau and Ale did the prayer in the straight cover when they were little.

    Huge backstory on this re-imagining that you really need to research. Back when they were just kids doing covers for their own amusement they did one of ES that was uploaded by Luis (their father) so family and friends could see their progress. It went viral, the girls started getting a lot of interview requests, and they decided they wanted to become a real band.They started a GoFundMe to attend Berklee School of Music in Boston which led to an invite to the Ellen Degeneris Show where they were presented with checks that covered their Berklee tuition ($10k each). Fast forward to Metallica's plan to make an 20th anniversary Black Album of covers. Pop singer Allessia Cara was invited to contribute, but she wasn't a rocker so her management reached out to The Warning. They only had a week to pull it off, and COVID restrictions forced Alessia to remain in Canada while the girls did their magic in Monterrey. The music video was hugely popular, so the band has continued to play an altered live version at all their gigs, with Alessia's vocals appearing on a backing track.

      Wow great story. So did they attend Berklee?

    • @LesDexia13
      @LesDexia13 Před 11 měsíci

      @@bobcieslinski Super-condensed story: One of the girl's teachers was a Berklee grad and encouraged them to apply for it's 5-week Summer Performance Program, but they soon learned the tuition cost was $10k USD for each girl, in addition to all travel and lodging costs. By chance Luis came into contact with a Canadian guy who had previous crowd funding experience. He started a GoFundMe for the girls and had donors create the band's web site and a long infomercial featuring the girls - czcams.com/video/gOdapJWBCcA/video.html . He also encouraged donors to write Ellen Degeneris asking her to have the girls on her show, which magically came true. During their appearance they were gifted $30k to cover their tuition, courtesy of Target. That meant the money they'd already crowdfunded was enough to cover all their other expenses, allowing them to attend Berklee ASAP that summer (2015). Dany was 15 at the time, which let her automatically enroll, but Ale (10) and Pau (13) were underaged and had to attend a one-week preliminary session to prove they were capable. Ale was so small her mom had to carry her bass to classes. While they were there they made a series of video diaries for The Ellen Show - czcams.com/video/3eV1VGel4lE/video.html .

    I'm still blown away every time I hear this version. They made such an iconic song their own. They listened to what was being asked of them by Metallica, who wanted the artists on the Blacklist album to take the songs apart, turn them inside out or upside down; make it your own but don't change the lyrics. I listened to the Blacklist album and The Warning are one of the few artists that had the guts to do what was asked of them and the only artists to completely change the song. That nod at the end to pay tribute and honor to the original song was a brilliant move. With every song they do they surprise and amaze me.
    As a suggestion I think you should watch "Disciple" also live at Teatro Metropolitan, the same concert as this one you just watched. Their music video for Disciple was amazing, but they left that behind in the dust with the live version at Teatro. The performance is off the scale and it is very rare for a live performance to outshine the studio version, yet The Warning do this on a regular basis.

    Not sure if you got the background on this or not...
    In 2014 The Warning did their cover of Enter Sandman (at the ages of 14, 12, and 9 years old). It went viral with over 24 millions views to date. Metallica even saw it and shouted them out. 2014 Enter Sandman by The Warning: czcams.com/video/1boUYB9LFJY2/video.html021
    Fast Farward-
    In 2021 Metallica asked 53 artists (including The Warning) to take any of the 12 iconic songs from their Black album and do a cover (any way they wanted to) for their Black List album, commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Black album. Alessia Cara (Canadian pop star) was also asked to participate but had no idea what to do. Because she shares the same management group as The Warning, she contacted them for help. It was difficult to do as Alessia was in Canada and The Warning were in Mexico and travel with COVID was not happening. They made it work and developed/recorded this completely re-imagined song in one week. They created the music video with the same logistical restrictions. Because of that you will see that Alessia appears as a projection on the wall in the video as she was not there. It was recorded in an abandoned textile mill outside of Monterrey, Mexico. Here is the official music video with Alesia Cara : czcams.com/video/9tKQgesCcTc/video.html

    This performance was how I was warned and quickly fell down the rabbit hole of Warning music, then to Warning reaction videos.
    The arrangement they play here was what they put together with Canadian singer Alessia Cara for The Metallica Blacklist Album, where Metallica invited some 60ish artists to reimagine the songs from their original Black Album. The Warning originally went viral back in 2014 with an Enter Sandman cover (much more straightforward, not rearranged) that gave a lot of momentum to their musical careers, so it was kind of a full circle moment for them to cover it again.

    It's as if time was flipped on its head and Metallica did a sort of sad, lifeless cover of The Warning's version. It's amazing how beefy and powerful their sound is considering it's just a 3-piece unit. These three girls have put together the most impressive rock n roll band going right now. I'm in love with them. You want to hear an anthem, listen to the Teatro Metropolitan version of the Spanish language Martirio.
