      It's very fun! I've recently started trying to be a bit more intentional with the second camera and addressing it directly, which I actually like quite a bit. But the side view that's the main focus of this video opens up so many options in editing!

    While not necessarily for “CZcams” videos, I use a 3 camera setup for a podcast I host. I just use my a6100 as my main, and 2 old iPhones for side angles. Once I figured out how to use the multi-cam sequence in premiere pro it made editing a breeze.

    • @tombuck
      @tombuck  Před rokem +5

      I don't think overkill exists for CZcams, so use as many cameras as you want! Glad the old phones are able to serve a purpose instead of being stuck in a drawer 👍

I love using it but I either get comments of it’s good, or don’t care, or they hate it or it’s off putting. Two vids in one week? Maybe you could call these "Bonus Bucks!" No? I'll show myself out. Before that, another mistake I see people make is that the two shots are too similar in terms of angle and focal length. Definitely want to make sure the 2nd angle is at least 30 degrees away from the main and the focal length isn't too similar to the first.
    Cool video!

    • @tombuck
      @tombuck  Před rokem

      BonusBucks™ I like it.
      That's a great point about not making the angles to similar! Especially if someone is in a smaller space, it's easy to have to cameras too close together.

    YES, Back to Tom Buck teaching! I like the multi-camera approach. On my current project, we have 4 cameras, It's a talk show we have 1 on each and 1 on both and a GoPro studio shot. We edit on the fly through the ATEM Extreme ISO. If I mess up live because I have the ISO track I can fix it in post. Your way is required because your a one man band. I do have an idea for you. Run your audio through the Rodecaster PRO II and record locally (Backup) then used 1/4" cables out of the monitor ports (set to Line Level) into the Handle on the FX3 (also set to line level) and then if there and issue you have a backup. You can use the Rode to eq the Sennheiser Mic.

    Great video my friend but I still need help. I upload videos to Rumble and CZcams. Here is the issue. Rumble also uploads their videos to CZcams so If I give them the same video as I already uploaded to youtube then Rumble will claim it and I get a copyright strike. I could tell Rumble to not upload it to youtube but they could get more views than I did on my own youtube channel. Hope that was not confusing. So here is what I want to do to fix this and please tell me if you think it will work. Would if I record the same video with 2 seperate cameras? Example: I record with my phone. Would if I record with 2 separate phones at the same time. Will they both have their own different coding? This way I can give one video to Rumble and upload the other to my CZcams without the fear of a copyright strike.

    • @tombuck
      @tombuck  Před rokem

      This is a tricky situation. I'm not sure if two separate cameras/files will help, to be honest. I'm not sure how the copyright system works- I think it might be advanced enough to recognize the actual content (words, subjects, etc), which means it would still get claimed.
      I've never used Rumble, but if they have a support team, it might be worth reaching out to them to see if they can help find a way to stop the claims. Good luck!

    Now that you’re using 4k cams, what are you using the Atem for?
    Also, maybe it’s just me, but I’m clueless on all the grips and mounts. I’ve seen videos that say “just use a super clamp” with no idea what that is or how to use it.

    • @tombuck
      @tombuck  Před rokem +1

      Ahh yes, the world of grip gear is pretty awesome but can definitely be overwhelming. Super clamps are basically really strong clamps that also have mounts to easily attach lights/cameras/etc. Basically, if you need to connect or mount something, there's probably an arm or attachment to get the job done.

      I do have a few setup videos that touch on it a bit, but the truth is there are SO MANY variables and options out there that no two setups looks the same. My cameras record directly to the SD cards, so I just have a power cable and an HDMI monitor running to each one.
      Even that's probably not necessary, but it's nice to know that I don't have to worry about batteries dying when recording for a long time and the external monitors just help make sure things are framed/focused properly 👍

    Terrific stuff. I keep meaning to ask you whether it's difficult to do other kinds of work (design work, coding, podcast editing, etc.) in a studio that's primarily set up for filming. I'm building out a new graphic design/podcast studio that will also be where I dip my toes into CZcams and I'm feeling like setting up a space as a "filming" space isn't how I'd set it up as a "design" space, if that makes sense. Any thoughts or ideas for lessening the friction between the two types of spaces?

    • @tombuck
      @tombuck  Před rokem +1

      That's a great question! I think it just depends on your workflow/preference really. It works pretty well for me, but I did recently set up a slightly different "off camera" lighting setup to make things feel a little more relaxed and comfortable. Having my monitor on an arm helps a lot too, because when I'm not filming I can put it in the perfect position (basically where it would just totally block the camera).

    @gospyder Před rokem +1

    Great video Tom! I’m about to get a second camera myself, and I’ve always thought of using 2 cameras to be daunting. Specifically when syncing different pieces of audio. However, and correct me if I’m wrong, but what you simply press record at the same time on both cameras, clap two sync the audio and you go about your video recording straight on both cameras. Meaning, you don’t record audio on a separate device. It’s all in camera and you edit back and forth between clips on FCP. Just like that? lol

      Yep, I just use a clap sync for the most part. App like Final Cut and Premiere also have auto-syncing features, but I prefer to just do it manually most of the time.
      I usually run audio through my FX3, but sometimes I'll use the Rodecaster, in which case I just sync the RCP audio to the camera audio and then mute the cameras' audio. I do this a lot with mic comparison videos where I have to constantly switch between different sources 👍

    IMO, interviews where there's an opening wide shot showing interviewee and interviewer, a cut to interviewee, then a different angle while all is behind the 180 line, works as long as no one looks into cameras. The interview audience is spectators. However in tutorials speakers should switch to the cam with the tally light on.

    It doesn't really bother me but coming from a background that includes ENG and live studio television, the use of the second angle and not addressing the camera always feels odd and unmotivated to me. Cool presentation. I like the two camera setup, but think it's (as a rule of thumb) better not to look into the lens on both, because from the viewer's POV it breaks the suspension of disbelief that we're sharing direct eye contact. As a viewer, it's fine for you to change the angle so that you're no longer facing me, but subsequent eye contact from this 2nd angle forces me to imagine that I have moved to another physical location in your studio, which I probably won't be able to do, and it breaks the virtual one-to-one connection effect, even if only subliminally.
