When LR starts talking about the engineering of bridges you really know nothing happened this stage
That was brilliant comic delivery.
You know how you know if a stage was boring? Patrik makes funny comments about what's going on outside the race. 🤣
Needs more cow/bull commentary
shoutout to the casters who have to give commentary in these stages for 5 hours straight
To be honest the scenery and architecture along the road is half the beauty of the Tour. On french TV we have a consultant dedicated to explaining the history of chateaus, the specialities of different regions and villages etc... it's great! And let me tell you he did most of the talking today 😁
i have a good feeling about these stages lately, intentionally avoided today's one until last 5km :P
he's practicing to be on NBC where they talk about castles more than the bike race
I love that this perfectly captures the spirit of a sprint stage, the random commentary on the architecture is just perfect(+the vultures xD)
loved how he threw a Vulture comment for the hardcore LR fans lmao
"I'm only here so I don't get fined" 😂 great entertainment as always
I hollered 😂
Hooted at that 😂
I would also like to laugh... Can you explain that comment?
Haha there are no actual fines though, right? He means fined symbolically from his team?
@@callumph it's a reference to one of Marshawn Lynchs interviews where he just said this repeatedly to any questions he was asked
If you've ever wondered what the difference between a good sprinter and an elite sprinter is, keep your eyes on just Jasper Philipsen. The way he maneuvers his way from a garbage position to a perfect one in a matter of 100m is a work of art. He's smarter, he's faster, he's always on the limit of what is and isn't allowed. Never boxed in, he just doesn't allow it. He's Cav 2.0
A couple years ago I thought "sprint stages are boring, they cant get more boring than this" and then the trend of no breakaway on sprint stages happened.....
Yeah i remember breakaways of up to 25/30 riders gaining 10 min on flat stages
Eh, it’s not like TV breaks with no fights did much for the entertainment…
@@thebaws7289makes it more interesting for final, 50k if sprint teams leave it late to chase.
See that s why Van'derpoel has been on lead out duties for Jasper , he is so quick and seems to have a double kick 👾
am I the only one who (mostly) finds breakaways boring as well? It doesn't make much of a difference to me.. like unless it's a GC rider breakaway, it doesn't add anything to me, they're all riding for the same thing. And this tour at least, it's more likely than not that the peloton catches them anyway and it doesn't actually make any difference at all
Dude, can I just say, your editing is comedy gold. FDJ with the birthday thing, so funny. Three stages ago when you said everyone got to chill and have a wee and just had a clip of Jonas chewing on a snack bar….comedy gold
Fun fact: There was also a Quebec flag on that camper van. Presumably for Boivin and Houle who are from there and / or driver of said camper from there.
Good engineering starts with knowing approximately how long a meter is.
to be fair, patrick's viaducts are a lot smaller than other people's viaducts
Does Quickstep have a team manager? they keep doing all these pulls for a sprint but no sprinter turns up.
That deer would easily beat Philipsen in a sprint! Jasper The Master finally delivers a clean launch with superb timing and vision coming from the back and without bully-boy Van der Poel to part the waves for him.
the deer would easily beat even Usain Bolt!
Yeah. He has clearly been crazy fast in the earlier stages, but they all felt a little bit sus. This one, he just comes out from like 8th, no MVDP lead out and just crushes them, impressive.
Shame about the other 4 hours of the race tho…
Jasper the master. Fuck's sake.
@@mondociaociao only because it has 4WD :P
@@iansteelmatheson exactly! 😄
Is he drunk recording this? 😂
With that kind of stage you need to keep yourself entertained
A bit tipsy 😊
Just tired, between all his shows, consulting, and reviews. He is only human, but insanely smart and to point
Off point !
He is having fun you know
The 2004 pop smash hit reference to open proceedings 😅 "all my life I've been waiting, for you to bring a fairy tale my way" - thanks LR
I freaking love your humor and the side commentary 🦌 Best strat recap vids out there, thank you as always 💜
LR quoting Marshawn. The perfect synergy of my two favourite sports❤❤🚴♂️🏈
That was hilarious! Fantastic summary, Patrick, and sweet humor! Thanks for these videos! Keep it up and stay healthy!
Opening a 2023 cycling video with lyrics from Anastacia's 2004 song 😀 clearly the highlight of this stage
To be fair, 3-4 riders have been close to Jasper in the sprints, they've just also been uncomfortably close to the barriers at the time....
Never stop this.. do this for every tour please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've never laughed so hard during a sports recap, great job Patrick! 😂
Van Aert is not looking like himself in these sprints. His positioning has been awful in every single one
His wife is expecting a baby any day now.
Finally It will be pogacar vs vingegaard not a 4v1 with kruiswijk kuss and van aert
@@miekaaahhso true, can’t wait for UAE to get Pogacar some help and rake in all the TDFs
@@edwinlam4679 jumbo visma is becoming a modern day sky train. Its embarrassing that they're not miles clear in winning these races tbh ineos is kinda embarrassing aswell nowadays
@@miekaaahh how is it embarrassing... there is no rule against pog sitting in the wheels of the jumbo train. Jumbo can make the race hard but if your biggest opponent is as strong or stronger than your best domestiques, you cant ride away from him if he is in the wheels can you...
“… this viaduct was pretty sick.” 😂 Good work Monsieur Rouge.
Shout out to the Marshawn Lynch reference
.nice, a little commentary on Castles and bridges. And some natural fauna of the region. Very cool.
Enjoyed this very much
This is truly your finest work to date.
You known LR is legit when he quotes Marshawn Lynch about getting fined.
Love your work Patrick
The transition to talking about drafty castles and viaducts had me rolling on the floor.
From "Jasper the disaster" to "Jasper the master"
lil bro actually opening with an Anastacia line, aint no way
I already had the song in my head.
You mentioned weird dreams in the pod and funnily enough, I had 1 too? It was Benji riding a big boys bike, and you were on a child’s bike. I woke up in a sweat and looked around. I realized I was only dreaming, since you are too cool to do something weird like that! I wonder what it means? I need a shrink! 😂
except the fabulous final sprint by JASPER and the awesome sprint crossing the route by the beautiful DEER. Happened... nothing!
Don’t forget the bridge
@@pablomeza4491 yeah, beautiful too 🙂
Enjoyed that
lovely comments mate, thanks!
ROTFL 😂😂 the castle/chatoux & viaduct
I just love the first sentence ❤️
Very nice Marshawn Lynch reference bro 😂
This episode went Beastmode 😎
Thanks
No wonder you guys are famous. You’re clairvoyants. I just read this intro on The Hard Way‘ podcast ‘They also work as strategic consultants for Jumbo-Visma, the best team in pro cycling and the winners of the 2023 Tour de France. Patrick practiced law before shifting his focus to cycling’ 😂👍🏼
You avoided saying it was the most boring stage. “And vultures too!” 😊
I’m curious, what kind of heavy duty sunscreen are they using? Does not seem to wash away with sweat and I never see them re-apply it.
Riding in Spain, got very dark skin and still have to put fresh screen on every couple of hours…
Only reason to get into a breakaway today would be giving your shirt sponsor a lot of exposure!!
I dunno, I gained a lot of respect for Oss today, that was a pretty heroic effort, didn't think he had it in him. I figured the only reason he was here was because he is Peter's drinking buddy.
Ok, I cracked up during the chateau and viaduct jokes 😂
First honest win for Philipsen this year.
I always wanted to go biking around France ❤
that bit about the canadian and US flag was gold
Legend says highest concentration of vultures ever seen in Andorra is when you and Benji did the hill climb. 😃
At 2.20, that has to be the biggest motor home anywhere in Europe right now.
What do you mean by the comment that they didn’t want to abandon their breakaway move so they didn’t get fined?
You know these highlights are good, when you Watch them, even after having watched the entire stage live …
Jasper the Master! 😂
Dylan with the double take 🤣
before this TdF started, i wondered if there will be a dominating sprinter this year…
when its cold out here
Last sprint stage for a week. Good news. 😁
Sagan P8 is awesome!
Come for the race analysis, stay for the deer and architecture admiration.
How is it that DSM takes the wrong side on a roundabout so often?!
You make even the uneventful stages fun. Ty!
Maybe they have their maps upside down when making decisions
1:35 Can't wait for the next episode of French Architecture with LR
See, he doesn't need to stick people into the barriers, or to get his patsy MVDP to do it for him. Wish he'd ride like this on every sprint.
It was a hard day yesterday
Is Courvoisier sponsoring LR? 😀
So why did van aert let jasper push him aside at 6:35 ?? Jasper didnt go for a wheel to draft, just eliminated his top competition with no retaliation. Think wout forgot which direction to throw a shoulder.
nice castle
To me the sprint looked like Jonas could've gotten a cheeky seconds or two against Pogi if he stayed with the main bunch of the sprinters since there was a small gap forming. Might have just been big enough so the difference wouldve counted
Needs to be a 3 sec+ gap to be counted on flat stages
@@pasta9119 Jonas was the first not on the winners time with +7 seconds. I don't know if Pogi was marking him (didn't see him in the live footage)
Wonder if van der poel is going for the break tomorrow
Jasper the master 😎😎
Thing is Jasper is so much fitter than the rest of the sprinters (which the possible exception of van art if you count him) relatively he’s just going to get better as the three weeks go on
what does he mean at 1:28 by „i‘m only here so i don’t get fined?“
It’s a reference to what a Running back Marshawn Lynch said before the Superbowl as he hated doing interviews to the media
Disappointed that LR never discussed the science of tarmac in this recap - castles and viaducts taking all the glory as usual, despite tarmac having both of them covered in the importance of road cycling
😂😂😂
Caleb Ewin will be lucky to have a contract after this tour i would think. He either crashes and takes people down or doesnt even feature in the sprint....
And whats going on with all these Non world tour teams ( i understand they have to whats in their best interests ) perfect day to get your sponsors on TV for hours.
the new green jersey looks sick...
that title and thumbnail makes me feel so sad like its a sad tearjerker pixar film (when pixar was good) or like a slice-of-life/sports anime that i havent seen yet lmao
Where was Caleb? Total MIA. Mechanical?
Is no one going to mention the Anastacia 'Left outside alone' quote? 😂
Finally Jasper wins a stage after being relegated on three previous stages for his unsafe riding and that of his teammates. We’ll deserved and glad he earned one and did it legitimately. I can imagine it makes the victory all the sweeter and not hollow like it would have been if the officials had simply gifted him the other ones.
nice try, but you either can outsprint the others, or you can't - go back to your cave
lol, cope
Pathetic comment
@@ebckersyeah just like Jakobsen did in 2020 tour of poland
living in a castle is dope
Why is the tour 3 weeks and what are the baddest ass sunglasses in the game?
Nice Anastacia reference there at the beginning. ;) But really, it's quite remarkable how the teams have suddenly lost interest in breakaways, especially the minor teams who normally want to be as visible as possible in the races. Maybe the sponsors don't care about getting their names on TV screens - they just want results?
I think part of it is the newish UCI regulations where you have to give 2 of the guest spots to the top ranked Pro teams. You have far less space to give to national teams who only seem to be in it half the time to make up numbers in flat stage breakaways, to get that tv time. So now you have more teams concentrating on getting ranking points and not going to waste too much energy on hopless flat stage breakaways.
@@Flakey101 Good point.
oss and amador seemed to be arguing at 1 point and then the arkea rider was like man y'all crazy af I'm out. Then Oss and amador were hate f ing it for a while.
oh wow, philipsen held his line for once. good job
happens to me in zwift all the time
Was Fabio Jakobsen invited to participate in the TDF? Has anyone told him?
he's riding with serious injury after the crash he picked up in the first win.
🤔So…how does anybody beat Philipsen?
That Canadian flag was puny, we have to get a go fund me set up for a proper size flag, politeness be damned!
They should have a cooling water mist truck drive ahead of the peloton at 27mph and slowly increase speed in order to encourage a breakaway.
Imagine that cooling mist would be akin to air conditioning to the cyclists that manage to be riding behind it.
Waiting for some Backstreet Boys references!
Aliens built the viaduct. Aliens, man. Aliens.
Ciao!
Loving these recaps! Real Jomboy vibes, lol
Don't forget about the beautiful flag of Quebec! 😁
As always , enjoy your detailing of the race. Saw this live ans was applauded , so not sporting to leave two cyclists hanging out there like for every !.
What are the smaller teams line Arkea Astana Israel DSM Cofidis doing? Just taking space. No chance to win a sprint no GC contender. They should attack consistently and trying to get in breakaways. 1, 2 even 3 at the time..putting pressure on big teams. This would make the tour even more interesting. If I were the director I would unleash continously attacks. Nothing to lose. What they don't understand this ? They are taking spaces and not getting any results.
Coquard has been too 5 in all of the sprints I believe…..
Israel has a stage win. Cofidis has a stage win. Astana lost its reason for being there 2 stages ago.
Are you actually watching?
@@cincydooley did he win? Yes Orr no? Did he have chances to win ? Little to nothing since dirty philipsen took 3 out of 4
The Bora rider got hit by a cellphone and almost overlapped someone after
Why doesn't Wout feel competitive this year?
Not sure, but I don't think it's helped by the fact that he's outright not going for the green jersey since he's expecting a child literally any day now, meaning he might exit the tour a bit early.
Just a guess though, but hell if I know
Laporte also hasn’t been helping IMO
@@pablomeza4491 Laporte's lead out was terrible. Wout can't start from behind Jasper.. no chance that scenario works
he had horrible or just straight up no leadouts all tour, hell, his sprints were mostly over before he could even launch
i wouldnt even really call what Laporte did this stage a leadout lol
He skeeted out the dawg in him
Bauhaus deviation on van aert is pretty disgusting
the engineer of that bridge was a german
These stages should be shortened to 10 km sprint. Absolutely no point doing 150+ in which most of them take a nap
My boys at Uno-X keep going too early
test this man lmao
