Can*t really understand all the finger-pointing here. This crash represents two top safety picks, providing survival space and good chances for both drivers.
It's decades of experience and the highest R&D budget putting the VW on top by a little margin.
This doesn't mean the Tesla is unsafe. Instead it reveals how far the manufacturers have come. This crash would not have had any survivors just two decades ago.

I don’t understand why they feel the need to point out every single tiny bend or crack in the cars underbodies. That’s not the goal of a crash test, to see which one sustains the most damage. In a crash like this, both cars will be totaled, so the point shouldn’t be to see which car has the most damage. It should be focused on which car absorbed the most energy in the crash while protecting the occupants of the vehicle. And since the Tesla has a nice even balance of energy absorbing components and high strength components, it’s be could guess that the people inside actually felt less force than those in the vw who came to a more abrupt stop because the vehicle while being strong did not absorb energy as well as the Tesla. However, both cars did great and both cars prove their safety in the real world.

WoW! It is the best realistic crash test that I have ever seen!
Tesla received more damage than Volkswagen because Tesla is lighter than Volkswagen. I'm really surprised that there are no corpses in both cars.

I think that the only reason the Tesla sustained MINOR DAMAGE is because of the weight difference in the cars, there for the VW has a better chance of surviving the crash since less forces are being put on the car, I think the car still did great

@@dct124 Weight is one of the most important aspects when it comes to crash physics. The I.D6 weighs 283 - 371 kilos (623 - 817 LBS) more than the Tesla (depending on the Tesla model). That equates to between 14.1% - 19.4% in extra mass for the VW.
A larger, heavier vehicle will always come out on-top in this type of crash with two modern day vehicles.
It may be poorly built compared to others in the line up (I don't know, quoting you here) but that's not the reason it crumbled here.
Crumpled or not, this is still a fantastic result. 10 years ago the result would have been far worse. 20 years ago would have resulted in extreme injuries. 30+ there would have been almost no chance for survival.

Just imagine how safe the Model Y would be if you added 950 lbs. of steel in the front. The same could be said for any car. But then you have an arms race of extra steel and weight to where you have 10,000 lb. SUVs hurtling down the freeways at 75 mph. We are already almost there with plenty of 5,000-6,000 lb. SUVs

@@formulafish1536 The amount of stupidity coming from your comment is no match for my brain. First, of course the door won't open, it could be jammed in a simple sideswipe (there were incidents) in any car, let alone a 40 mph frontal crash. Second, the structure of the car held up really well, it's simple physics, if you crash into a car that's heavier, of course there is going to be more damage, the same goes for the Id6, bet that if the Id6 were to crash with a model x, the id 6 would crumple way more than the Tesla. Third, bringing up how many people died in cars is a losers argument, there are a lot of variables here, how old were the people? Did they have health issues related to the crash? For example having a heart problem, then having a heart attack during the crash. And most importantly, you should be able to compare how many people died in the Id6 vs the Tesla, but you can't, there are a lot more Teslas on the road than id6s, and if you wanna get into the data, 3 million cars, 44 deaths? That seems safe to me. And don't even get me started on the fires.

You must be drunk. Take another look, and watch how the Tesla deaccelerates within the crash vs how the VW deaccelereates. The VW utilizes the entire crumplezone with a steady deacceleration. The dummy inside is deaccelerated alongside the entire crash, and lands safely in the middle of the bag with no twist, as it doesnt hit the wheel.
On the other hand, on the Tesla side, the crumple zone is poorly utilized ( no wonder with its frunk) and the major part of deacceleration happens when the VW is at the front window. See the car lift and twist suddenly at that point. Same thing is seen inside, where the dummy go through the airbag and actually hits the steering wheel so hard it bounces backwards with a twist. The neck and head is twisted by more than 90 degrees!

And the same about your video. One crash that happened in a random manner is not a way to compare Volvo against the others. You don't know the varibles here. You don't know how other car would have behaved if they hit the same truck, with the same angle at the same speed. The only way to compare is to either make exactly the same test or compare real statistic over many accidents for each brand and model.
The video itself is impresive and in general Volvo is really secure - no doubt about that. But the point is just that you have no way of concluding is other brands would have been better or worse from the video.
