  • Part 2 in the making of a pair of heron marked swords.
    Due to extremely slow upload times at my new location in the country, I'm breaking videos into smaller parts.
    Blades are 80CrV2 steel. Hilt parts will be sculptural quality silicon bronze.
    More information on any of my swords is available on my website:

    I've been watching you for a long time. You're amazing man. The care and patience that go into everyone of your pieces is seemingly unobtainable to most if not almost all. I really enjoy what you do and love watching it. I'm a welder and a bit of a smith but that's the extent of my metal working talents yet I aspire to make at least crude swords. Poorly balanced btw lol. I'd love to even hold an example of your work. I apologize if after so long I'm uneducated to your purpose. Business or pleasure. Either way you are an inspiration. I'd make the time in my day to watch a two hour long video. Maybe some dialogue and insight about your drive would compel people to feel the same as I. Keep it up sir, forever impressed.

      Thank you. This started out as a hobby but now I make a living at it, so both business and pleasure. I don't take on any commissions I'm not interested in. If you're ever in the Atlanta GA area, you're free to stop by and see and end hold the swords that I have here.

    Dude, you should be working for the movies. This stuff is cool. I read, and loved those books too.

      Thanks. Making stuff for movies generally requires a very fast turnaround time that I wouldn't find very pleasant to deal with.

    Could you try to make a Witcher sword and put your twist on it?
    You'r the only smith i found on the internet who can pull out such a detailed and elegant build!

    For me your sculpting technic is the most impressive.. I would appreciate if you can make a video solely focus on sculpting.. What tools and materials do you use?

    • @brotherbanzai
      @brotherbanzai  Před 8 lety +2

      Thanks. I only use a few different small hand tools for sculpting as well as some small detail tools I made myself. Materials vary depending on the project. Sometimes I use oil based clay, sometimes microcrystalline casting wax, sometimes foam, sometimes wood or something else or a combination of those things.

      Just sold our house. It will probably be a few months before we get our new house and move in. We are headed down to Melbourne. Looks like your in your new place. Is it Georgia?

    • @brotherbanzai
      @brotherbanzai  Před 8 lety

      Congratulations! On the sale, not the move, Florida sucks ;) I think I've been to Melbourne a couple of times, it's just a little north of being directly across the state form where I used to live. Yep, the new place in is Chattahoochee Hills, GA, about 1/2 hour outside the perimeter.

    botherbanzai I think it's time you'd have a Q&A vid out. Btw nice work but i mean that's to be expected from a calculated craftsman-minded smith.

    • @brotherbanzai
      @brotherbanzai  Před 8 lety

      Thanks. Way to many possible Qs to A, I try and cover a few different things in each video while still showing the parts most people find interesting. Just way to much stuff (a lot of it fairly boring to most people) to easily cover. I did an hour and a half long presentation for a blacksmith group down in Florida once, should have taped it.

    • @Exodus-sh5mq
      @Exodus-sh5mq Před 8 lety

      Oh I mean like what is ur favorite soda or what do you do when you don't have work. You kno trivial stuff. But I'll see if I can find the vid u r talking about. Besides I don't believe we have heard who's ur favorite power ranger. Can't get that in a smith video.

    • @brotherbanzai
      @brotherbanzai  Před 8 lety

      Oh, well... I don't generally drink soda, maybe the occasional A&W cream soda every couple of months. When I don't have work, I just keep making stuff, experiment with new techniques, or do more research. Also have a shooting range out back for firearms, enjoy riding motorcycles, and playing Halo firefight with my wife.

    • @Exodus-sh5mq
      @Exodus-sh5mq Před 8 lety

      Ahh I see. Now all you have to do is say it in a camera. Btw I'm not trying to force you to do it it's just a pondering request/question whatever. Also who/where do u get ur bronze ingots or do you make them yourself. And another thing I thought you more of a Bloodborne God of War kinda guy,but Halo's cool especially when you can get ur wife/signficant other to play with you. Best wishes keep up the great work man!

    • @brotherbanzai

      One version of it, yes. Went to a custom blade maker friend of mine in Australia.

  • @marcsenteney3160
    @marcsenteney3160 Před 8 lety

    Yes indeed you and your work is just awesome! I have spent many hours viewing your videos. Mind if I ask what type of wax you use? And is any of it savaged after you heat the mold?

    • @brotherbanzai
      @brotherbanzai  Před 8 lety

      Thank you. I use microcrystalline casting wax. There are lots of different varieties under that heading, the specifics of which depend on the desired characteristics. Yes, I savage the wax viciously after heating the mold. Oh, you probably mean salvage. Still yes, whatever isn't burned away is melted down to re-use.

    Do you ever have problems with expansion or contraction of your hilts when you cast them?

    • @brotherbanzai
      @brotherbanzai  Před 8 lety

      Expansion no. The bronze will shrink slightly as it solidifies in the ceramic shell, so that slight size change needs to be accounted for when fitting the pieces to the tang.

    How many hours do you typically work on one sword?

    • @brotherbanzai
      @brotherbanzai  Před 8 lety

      It varies quite a lot depending on the sword. Probably anywhere from 100 - 200 hours spread out over a couple months.

    • @Deastrow
      @Deastrow Před 8 lety

      It shows in the quality of your work. You are truly talented. I find it insane that you can condense 200 hours of work into a couple 20 minute videos.

    • @brotherbanzai
