  • This woman is becoming an icon. Discovered in 2015, Andra Day has already won a Golden Globe, nominated for an Academy Award, Emmy and Grammy Award, and performed "Rise Up" live at the Grammys in 2016. She is such a talent, I had to see this acoustic performance of the same song she sang at the White House.
Join professional opera singer Elizabeth Zharoff, as she listens to Andra Day performing "Rise Up” in an acoustic version in-studio.

@@silversabith Likewise on all fronts. I have gained a lot of appreciation for vocal sounds as musical instruments from her. For me as a layperson, I experience music just like any other art by how I respond emotionally. While I do not have to know the techniques that created it in order to enjoy it, having an understanding of what it takes to create it helps give me a deeper appreciation for the artists talent and work.

This is the best reaction channel on CZcams. When Elizabeth smiles, giggles, gasps, or tears up, she really means it. And although it complements the songs she analyzes, her honesty deserves a great deal of respect on its own. Just let the music do what it intends and maybe you will find yourself as moved as she is. See 9:15 and 20:27? That's real and it's absolutely beautiful.

You should check out 2 versions of this song by a singer you love, Morisette Amon, she sang it on the Wish bus which the record company had taken down because Mori's version had more views than Andrea's version, but people keep putting it back up, Mori also does an acapella version with 3 rd Avenue both very powerful x

The honest, vulnerable, sincerity with which you react to every song you hear, reminds us all to stop and allow ourselves to feel and feel fully the emotions that come through music when we hear it. Listening to music can easily become a mindless automatic thing that we do while driving, working, etc. and so much of it's poignant message is lost along with it. But when you unashamedly show how you feel in your reactions with such authenticity, it somehow gives us permission to do the same. It empowers us to be overwhelmed with emotion and knocked off our feet with the meaning and beauty of the music. Thank you.

This was an incredibly emotional and passionate performance of this song by Andra, for all of the things you said, Elizabeth, but unfortunately, I saw Morissette Amon covering this song first, live on the Wish Bus recording, and now I can't not compare everyone to that, which is still by far my favourite version. This is incredible, and I know it's Andra's own song, but for my own personal tastes, I like Morissette's rendition better, without taking anything away from this version. Have you ever heard Aussies lie John Farnham / Jimmy Barnes? John has some amazing songs (You’re the Voice, a version of Help with the MSO), Jimmy so a different style ( Stone Cold with John Bonamasa, Working Class Man, and with band, Cold Chiael). They have a great diet “when something is wrong with my baby”. A lot of people outside of Aus don’t realise these guys are here and have been. As a note - both still perform (John now early 70s and Jimmy mid sixties). And they haven’t lost their voices.

I'm have other person to recommendation...It's Elis Regina. I'm can say that Exist only 3 persons that hypnotize me when singing: Floor Jansen, Elis Regina and Jessie J, lolol. Elis brings many complex feelings in her interpretation. Among these three marvelous singers, Elis, to me, is the most expressive. When I talk about Floor to other persons who don't know her, I say that She is like Elis Regina of Metal, lolol. (Very different styles, tho, lolol) Because She explore her own voice in many styles and have a passion for constantly improving her technique like Elis. Well...Elis wasn't a composer. She only interpreted songs for other persons. But very, very Well, putting her own signature in this songs. Many songs she have sing it was composed to her. Until today she (Elis) is considered one, to not say the best, performance singer ever from Brazil

I love this song, especially the original version with the choir. (serious tears) and as always, this reaction is wonderful!
Pet peavy of mine is artists not sounding out consonants so that you know where one word ends and another starts. Sometimes I know its a choice. For instance, at times I don't hear the "P" in Rise up, or the "K" in like, or the "T" in Feet, etc. I'm guessing it makes it hard to do vocal runs. MHO

I would absolutely LOVE a video about the french "kind of black metal band" Alcest. Their song Autre Temps would be perfect 🖤 the lead singer Neige has the most beautiful voice and he uses screams very deliberately to express emotion. Also, the lyrics are an otherworldly poem:
The golden leaves dying on the ground,
Will be reborn under bright skies,
As this weatherworn world remains the same,
And tomorrow, you and I will be gone.
