I have refridgerator that the filter is at the bottom. I opened the little door i pulled 9n the filter it will not come out. Its a side by side
I have a Whirlpool side by side. When I changed the filter a few weeks ago, the little latch on the door did not catch the filter to pop it out. I had to remove the entire bottom panel, pull the entire filter casing out, and sort of re-set the little filter door. What a pain!
That sounds super frustrating, sorry that you had to deal with that!
It does not pop out when you open the little door.

Are there bypasses if you have a fairly good whole home filteration system?
Many of the newer refrigerators with water filters come with a "plug" that can be inserted into the water filter slot, essentially bypassing the need for a water filter.
In a home with a whole home water filtration system, using a filter for the water and ice from the refrigerator would be a good idea.
do you have to turn the water off when changing the filter?
It's recommended that you turn off the water to the fridge itself, but you don't need to turn off your house water. You can check your fridge waterline for a valve or consult your user's manual. Thanks for watching and happy changing!

What is considered generic filter?
Anything that is not the name-brand filter that comes with the fridge! So not using a Samsung filter in a Samsung fridge, for example. Thanks for the question!
