Lucked out and even got the color (Inferno Orange Metallic) I wanted, and I doubt I will ever sell it. 11 yrs old and only 55k miles, plus I have heard too many dislikes about the 2nd Gen Colorado so not looking to trade up, and doubt it would be a trade up.

    I’ve got a 2012 extended cab Z71 4WD with the 5.3L and factory 4.10 gears, it’s AWESOME. I’ve hopped mine up a bit, and it’s genuinely pretty fast and is an awesome camping rig. Total shame they didn’t make them from the beginning, I believe they would’ve sold a LOT of them. By the way, the 2011 and 2012 5.3 engine code was LH9, the earlier one was LH8. My truck gets an average of 17 mpg, 15 in town or on country roads and 19-22 on the highway depending on speed (it loves 60 mph, not so much 75) with 275/65r18 Goodyear Duratracs on it. Couldn’t ask for a better truck. Mine’s immaculate at 67,000 miles, being an enthusiast-owned lifelong California truck (I live in West Virginia and take great care to keep it clean and under oiled and such). Yours is super clean, too, nice job keeping it that way.

    • @philofab
      @philofab  Před 3 lety +1

    • @The_sinner_Jim_Whitney
      @The_sinner_Jim_Whitney Před 3 lety

      @@philofab I think my Black Bear 91+ tune helped some, as I only averaged 18.2 on the drive home from California. Also, I never exceed 75 for more than a mile or two and run 60-65 on a lot of my camping trips along 2-lane highways. It gets 22 or a touch over at 60, but probably 16 at 80 with those 4.10s. I also always got 1-3 mpg better on 93 or 94 octane even before the tune, I guess since mine’s flex fuel it actually did make a difference.
      I’m probably going to kill it some with a Texas Speed stage 2 VCT truck cam, but it’ll be worth it, haha!

    I have a GMC Canyon (2005) with the 3.5 engine. It has 138K miles, seems to run very good to be fair. I changed the plugs, cleaned the MAF sensor, and the throttle body. Replaced the radiator, it was the original. I found the power steering fluid was empty, it was making noise, added enough to top it off, works great.
    Had the muffler and exhaust replaced with a Flowmaster Super 40. Good tone and strong engine sound.
    Maybe others with the problems on these engines live in harsher climates, or have maintenance not done on time.

      The main issue with Atlas motors is the timing and balance chains, which I would think high rpm and oil changes are the only things that affect the life of them. I've actually been trying to find a 5 cylinder to play with for a project.

    Wow! I had no idea that they had offered these with the 5.3, and I didn't even know they made them till 2012. Honestly I kind of forgot that these even existed. I honestly kind of thought they were a half-ass effort on GM's part, I think the Nissan's and the Toyotas of the same vintage were probably better trucks. This one's a whole different ballgame though now that I know that they're out there with 5.3s I want one!
    Btw, I just watched your video review of the Cooper tires, that came up in a search I was doing on them, and I saw the V8 fender badge and I was like I have to investigate this further! Lol.

I've put 184,000 on it so far and have had zero issues with it. Towed, hauled, and go off-road with it often. Still starts and runs like a top. I will say though, I've done all my own work on it since new from 6 miles. lol. I get 22-24 mpg highway with 3.73's. So yea, I bet it is 4:10's on yours. They ruined them imo after the re-design...

      Don't think they was that fast .ecm nanny control's and factory tune won't let it.your 3.6 8 or 9 speed is faster.I'm sure a good tune would open it up and few bolt on parts it be a wicked little truck and that v8 sound ..the new ones now come with a 4 banger ..so does the base full size .Gm hell bent on building the smallest engines they can to please uncle sam, insted of its customers , add a ton of boost to het decent hp & tq and jsut like the ev push , most folks don't want it and is tired of go cart sized turbo engines in there cars, suv and trucks .Gm could supercharge the 3.6 for mid size suv and Colorado , supercharge the 5.3 for full size suv and Silverado cheaper to make and sale and way more reliable then small turbos and big hp and tq and the paying customers will be happy and sales will go way up.don't like ford , don't like turbos but had no choice but to buy the new ranger rapter, with a 3.0 twin turbo v6, cuz the colorodo has a 4 cyl. Now .buddy had to buy the full size single cab f 150 , has a 5.0 10 speed,,why? The Chevy reg cab you can only get a ...yep a 4 banger .

      @philofab  Před 4 lety +2

      Spectre XIII If it’s a 115+ out I have to idle it up to cool it off. It’s never overheated but the gauge starts climbing a little. I’ve though about adding a electric fan on the front of the radiator or just changing to electric fans all together.

    • @spectrexiii5529
      @spectrexiii5529 Před 4 lety +1

      @@philofab Mine will absolutely heat soak idling when it's over 115. The highest I let it get was 244, and while the truck didn't seem to mind, I was uneasy. Got the gauge up to 3/4 at that temp. Fan locked in, not enough engine speed at idle. I've been eyeballing supermodulation fan kit or pcmofnc fan kit.

    • @philofab
      @philofab  Před 4 lety +1

      I think next time I plug the HPTuner in I will increase the hot idle on my truck a little. I like the supermodulation fan but I don't really want any of his wiring. I should probably see if he will sell once separate if he's still around. If not I'll just stick to my plan of adding a auxiliary pusher fan to the front.

    • @RSAW73
      @RSAW73 Před 6 měsíci

      No they don't have AFM. The newer LH9 has VVT, which is reliable and can easily be deleted, if necessary. Still made 300HP/320TQ with VVT, but lost 5 ft/lbs of peak torque as they added valve reliefs in the pistons for VVT, so the engine lost almost .5 point of compression and strangely kept the same cam. Looking for one of these little beasts myself.
