All these are canon on kukkiwon, the Best channel is LDH taekwondo, but now the good stuff isn't free anymore
Fellow tkd guys, plz study hand techniques! Training to fill style or skill gaps doesn't mean ur doing less tkd. It just means u know how to fight!
Such a great comment!
Boxing or kickboxing are great starting points for cross training in hand strikes

I think tkd guy probably has some experience with hapkido. Most tkd places in my area offer both. It's not enough for fight mma,but perfect for rec mma and enough for basic, rounded self defense.
Taekkyeon, a progenitor of TKD has an interesting rule set: you score points for clean kicks to the head and body as well as takedowns. Lots of folks mentioned Hapkido as well. Although I haven't studied it, the Chinese characters for hapiko are the same ones for Aikido. The video appears to be very old, as I can see people filming on their flip phones on the sidelines.
The "MMA guy" doesn't even know white belt guard defense. He was mounted in 15 seconds of the video. LMAO.
Begginer mma guy probably , tkd guy seemed to be going easy . This looks more like a playful exchange more than anything . Neither one seem to be going 100% or even 70% for that matter . You can see him laughing in the first part .
MMA guy missed lesson 1😂
mma people finally understand what it's like to have their guy be the scrub lol
more like a light sparring
@@dummyfunny5098TBH not a fair exchange either for the TKD guy. he can't use power kicks or strikes to effectively control distance yet MMA guy can close in slowly and take him down to control him
I love spinning back kicks, but not when they are just haphazardly done and telegraphed (leaving you vulnerable to a counter). At least lead with a hook or some other distraction first; and sell the distraction at the opponent's face then execute the back kick. This works for me when I spar.
Great comment. All about setting it up and also having a plan if it doesn't land. And only in sparring can we truly understand that. If you ever have footage to send me, please do. I love featuring viewers! I just found footage from years ago of a JKD viewer that I never featured, so that's going to be the next video!
Seems like a hapkido guy. Hapkido is basically taekwondo with jiu-jitsu.
The jiu jitsu is Japanese but I'm sure a lot of hapkido guys cross-train in Brazilian at this point.
Maybe he's both. It's not uncommon for TKD practitioners to cross train in TSD and HKD.
no his uniform is taekwondo style
It's Hapkido's Daito Ryu Aikijujutsu
@@lvl18abilities Doesn't mean he can't cross train.
@@SonOfVenus92494 didnt say he cant i just said its taekwondo based on his uniform
the problem is that many martial arts were nerfed to become an Olympic sport. Classic TKD is brutal it has elbows, Grappling, Punches, Knees, Low Kicks.
Could not say this better the Olympic ruin the Tkd and all these sensor to allow flick click
Where is this more complete style of TKD taught? I came up in TKD during the 1970s and it was very similar to Shotokan. Elbows and knees may have been in a form but they were never drilled.
@@elindioedwards7041 even in Poomsae they throw elbows and face punches ... All these Olympics bodes and rules had made tkd Woke bring back the 70 and 80 when it was a real martial arts.
@billboon I trained in TKD under Cha Sok Park in Virginia from 1974 through 1977. I reached 2nd gup Brown under Mr. Park. During that time, I never saw elbows or knees drilled in TKD like they are drilled in Muay Thai. I also never saw a low kick of any kind taught or applied in sparring. I hear people always talking about the old school TKD and how effective it was. My response is that it was always too kick centric, and like all karate, it did a very poor job of covering the head or fighting in clinches. I have seen some phenomenonal TKD exponents, but in no way do I see it as the same tier striking art as Muay Thai or western boxing. I had this same discussion with a CZcamsr who calls himself Kwon Kicker a couple of years back. He argued that the 'original kukkiwon' style included all the elements of knees, elbows, boxing type covers and parries, low kicks, boxing punches (hooks, upper cuts, jabs, crosses) shielding for low kicks, as Muay Thai. I'm sorry, but I just don't believe that. The reason I don't believe that is because I was around in the 1970s when someone like Kwon Kicker didn't exist yet. I also asked him to name a gym where the 'original' TKD was taught? He never responded. I have no doubt that some TKD exponents have adopted the Muay Thai approach. But I would submit that they did this because of the effectiveness of Muay Thai.
@@elindioedwards7041 I don't know where you live, but here on Brazil we used to partner drill and sebon kyorugi those
Jerry, so happy you got a sponsor!
WT[F] TKD guy probably had some background in hapkido or judo for the throws. There's almost zero takedown in the WT[F] curriculum except in the laughably limited scope self-defense drills. These self-defense drills are instructor specific and not codified by WT[F].
That is very interesting! thanks for that detail!
@@saltysourdough You touch on a really important aspect of martial arts, which is that ultimately, the peak of unarmed martial arts performance is governed by human biomechanics. You discovered that taking one support away from two results in many more axis to tip the opponent over. Many gari techniques are just variations of this one concept. I think it was Jesse Enkamp that mentioned it in his video that different styles are just different paths up the mountain to the peak. The theoretical ultimate is dictated by your body, not the style.
@@tusanity How many schools, years, and which affiliations did you train? Who's your instructor and where did he/she get credentials from? The reason I'm asking is just because you do this at your dojang does not make it a blanket validity for all of WT[F] TKD. I did say that these were instructor specific and not codified by WT[F]. I've trained more than 10 yrs in WT[F], fought in many old-school WT[F] tournaments before it became foot slap matches. As an adult, I've done various martial arts to fill in the inadequacy of WT[F] TKD as a combat sport.
@@tusanity Just to be clear. My initial comment should not be taken to disparage TKD. I think it's great to learn TKD when young because it's VERY difficult to learn those technical kicks as an adult. Whereas boxing, judo, mt, you can learn those as an adult with less of an issue. My point is that, just as judo cannot outkick TKD, there should be no delusion that TKD can outgrapple judo. Many old school TKD instructors cross-trained in hapkido or yudo, which are essentially Korean evolution branches of aikido and judo respectively, so some instructors incorporate those into their self-defense and one/two-step sparring drills. From my experience, these throws and joint-locks were never pressure tested though.
When I grew up learning Tkd, my teacher was a really old school master from Korea and to score points in our sparring, you had to do hard clean kicks, punches to the head, or we had takedowns and judo throws similar to the one in the video. Judging from how old this video looks, I suspect this tkd school practiced sparring similar to what I described, especially that first throw, it's exactly what we learned to do in tkd. Really really old school tkd resembled a lot like okinawan karate, which makes sense because of the WW2 occupation lol.
If taekwondo guy knows bjj also is not taekwondo any more, is mma vs mma.
I remember seeing an old TKD training video from either the 70s or 80s, and it was hardcore. The power and speed of the kicks were very impressive. Imagine if TKD competition wasn’t about a point system but was fought in a ring like Muay Thai. It would be an entirely different sport now, and the training would be very different as well.
In first exchange taekwondo guy should have just pound opponent. Curiously, when taekwondo practitioner transitioned to mount position, his flexibility helped him a lot
TKD has throws, locks, eye poking, groin attacks, in theory it has everything, but that's only in the forms and the technique corpus, which no one practices, maybe you do some of it 3 classes before a belt exam because it's in the curriculum, and nothing more.
The Rules make the Competition why Taekwondo fighters would train Throws if they can't use in Tournaments.
My violin teacher did some kinda romanian full contact TKD in the 80s, apparently it also blended a bit of judo and kyokushin
Thats really cool! If you find out more info please let us know!
As a taekwondo fighter I highly recommend that other TKD fighters should learn how to use their hands. So add elements of boxing (punches and headmovement), add elements of Muay Thai (Low kicks, Knee’s, and elbows)
Taekwondo solo would be destroyed by MMA people…..adding other martial arts to that style will make it better but not solo
@@Sledge666 yea pure kicking isn’t the best
Was expecting more submissions from MMA guy --- probably just learning. TKD guy was clearly just keeping it light.
MMA guy seems like he has a ton of holes
Yes, he does. Like he's just started practicing MMA.

I don't think MMA guy is......a super duper MMA guy.
Nobody is lol not unless they compete at high level amateur or professional/ serious "hobbyist". Its really funny how now were starting to see even "mma" (which whem you break it down is just a blanket term uesed to describe somebody who may or may not practice/ understand different methods and ideology of fighting. The level of their understanding and ability to apply said understanding is contingent on their capacity to learn/ train. Those whom usually can fill that capacity to thst level t "fit the bill" aka hardcore "mma guys" are often competitors or ahbe competitive aspirations.....akd guys like that usually GREW UP doing tkd/karate/boxing/ wrestling/ etc and/or grew up scrapping alot in the streets or something. Its at a point where people think "mma" itself is a legitimate thing on its own but not really..... You still javebto actually honor/learn the other disciplines in a legitimate way if you want to be proficient in any meaningful way
Good stuff
this release pleasantly surprised me 👏🐯
Awesome to hear!
You have a lovely and charming voice. This was fantastic. Start to finish. Bravo 👏 👏 👏
Thank you! Got more for you!
Holy cow! You have a wonderful voice! And a really awesome dog 😁
I’ll let my neighbors know. I borrow Carter for these videos 😂😂
What I have been thinking lately is that the TKD folks have a hope. A Crazy way of thinking of TKD is as a base or default style. Something you start with and then you add to it. You learn your ground defenses and chokes. You learn basic grapples and standing pugilistic defenses. Basically you start the journey there is what I am seeing so often. And as you learn you have something better then tai chi to have as a back up plan…..
Or not
Interesting match, but loved that it didn't turn out like how we might have initially though given the martial arts backgrounds of the fighters.
Imagine getting outgrappled by a tkd guy lol. Time to either pack it up or move to dagestan 😹
Daguestan it's very useless they only learned fight when Russians teach Sambo for these guys a Russian martial arts.
@@DouglasGomesBueno-jw9lh most wrestling medals per capita than anywhere else, but yeah they suck
The TKD guy gained A LOT of good ground positions. If he knew how to distribute his weight, he would have gotten a sub with no problems.
I like the dog singing
I got a very good one coming tomorrow!
Just a light sparring match.
Oh, I'll have to check out the app. I don't know how much I would use it, but it might be worth it.

When did this video come out
The original sparring was from the early 2010s.
The video says it was recorded in 2005 and posted in 2012.
TWD guy has some judo experience
That’s some good singing brother 😎!
Thanks!
Ya a lot of people don’t know that tkd isn’t just kicks. There’s a difference between tkd sport and tkd fighting.
MMA guy pulled side control 😂
Hahahha
He just skillful
that BJJ was some weak sauce...
Aquí en Cuba entreno Taekwondo ITF Máster y trabajamos el boxeo y el grappling, ay que dejar la teoria del WTF que solo se patea
Tiene videos?
wtf is really "Full contact" kinda bec they don't use hands on the face and below the belt is not allowed. But wtf can train and fight full power even without armors (more comfortably at that according to personal experience) so I can say for a wtf its gonna be easier for him to adjust to pressure testing
Sponsor? +1
another great song for Jerry's album
I just thought about another song! This one I heard angela aguilar sing, so it got stuck in my head 😂😝 stay tuned!
So called tkd guy did well staying in the game but seemed almost mystified what to do next when he had the advantage at various times...!!😂
MMA guy drastically -- MMA guy 'drastically underestimates the impact of social distinctions predicated upon wealth, especially inherited wealth.' You got that from Vickers, 'Work in Essex County,' page 98, right?
Who's Vickers?

The mma guys grappling is white belt at best
more interesting yet, the tkd guy is WT.
TKD or Hapkido or both?
Both!
Bruce tried to tell people decades ago, but at least MMA is showing the other martial arts, that you need to have some grappling at least!
Nice singing 😊
Anybody can claim to be an mma guy. There's no certificate for that.
This style tkd doesn’t use leg kicks….
What you on about??
TKD guy is pulling his strikes....whats there to watch?
THERES A HEEL HOOK ATTEMPT! 😂😂😂 Clueless
People have to understand TKD it's a Military System of Combat, TKD made for war are different of Sport TKD. Ancient TKD focus more in skills effetive not much a sport like Olympic TKD.
Hmmm... how much of TKD is been shown here, 8seconds in and TKD had abandon his trade and gone to leg swipe and the rest is ground game
Tkd has no ground game, the rest is 100% tkd. He should've use standing locks and submissions on the ground adapting, but I don't blame him, we are never trained to adapt that
57.
That is the worst MMA guy I have seen in my entire life. Not representative to actual MMA vs taekwomdo (Where both competitors actually knows their sports).
Lmao😊
“Doesn’t know anything about grappling.” False.
Non of them know what they are doing and do no represent their arts potential.
I can tell that "Taekwondo" guy also has some grappling training. That makes it mma vs mma with a gi. The narrator of this video must be a traditional martial artist that feels threatened by mma because he's really going out of his way to try and make mma inferior to traditional martial arts.
Yeah, "MMA guy" not much of an MMA guy.
His kicks look... weak. Why.
It was a friendly sparring
mma guy loosk liek he did 5 classes
Very low level MMA guy
Wow mma guy is really bad
Hahaha, FAKE!! if you like high kick class and think this is real... 😢
Yeah, that's not a MMA guy with ground fighting like that. I almost didn't comment because I don't want to get this BS video more views, but I decided that telling the truth is more important. Now to block this channel because this video is of 0 use
TKD > MMA stay mad lol
