      Challenge the Wild lol, i my first ten gal i bought a bunch of fish. kept them in a bowl for hours, and put them in the tank without any cycle. they all survived somehow but the tank lived for 2 years

      Challenge the Wild since you want to learn more about your tank and what you did wrong first of all you were supost to wash the rocks before putting them in your tank to wash all the chemicals of of them them once filling the tank you were supost to let the water filter for 24 to 49 hours them once putting your fish in you should have put the bag in the water and let them sit like that for 30 minutes to let the water temperures even out then once transferring them to the tank dumped them into a net then put them in the tank that way there was no cross water contamination I hope this answered any future questions

      Scott Hill that's the truth learning the hard way is the easy way when I setup my first tank which is a 30 gallon it's all live plants and I used tetra safe start plus and a dechlorinator since I'm on city water but my process took about 4 hours but it is worth it

      I do know you were rushed for time, but it truly is NOT fair for your fish to not cycle them! For future, please cycle, or at least buy beneficial bacteria for your tank.

    • @willybilly99
      @willybilly99 Před 7 lety +8

      just to let you know its not a toy, they are living breathing creature..i don't know if you added water conditioner or not & beneficial bacteria in the water.. the beneficial bacteria can be bought at any pet store it is must for every new tank..otherwise your fish will die within month...it is also called fish cycle..usually some people do this method by adding alot of cheap fish to the new tank without adding any bacteria drops so some considered it as cruel so thats why you can purchase beneficial bacteria in a bottle add few drops in new tank then you can add fish right away.

    I'm sure , 90% percent of pet owners do research "after" they get there pet. I'll admit I did, but thank god none of my pets died due to my lack of knowledge. and now I'm a lot more experienced and continue to do what I love doing for my pets and plants.! I'm thinking about posting videos myself cause I want everyone to see my beautiful set ups and transformation of not knowing much to knowing quite a bit. I encourage EVERYONE to Study on your pet before handling them. Have a good day all you pet lovers!

    HAHAHA this video so much reminds me of when I was younger and just entered the fish-keeping hobby. My parents bought me a 30 gallon tank with a cheap ass filter, I chose an Oscar. Overtime, the Oscar grew and the old tank had to be replaced with a 90 gallon tank with a more sophisticated filtration system, I think it was Tetra (can't recall much). But unfortunately my oscar died when we were on a family vacation overseas, I was 17 and devastated, she was 11 inches in length and ~3.5 years old. I have to put this hobby of mine on hold as I am in university and not at home very much often. Great video! I sincerely hope that you'll stay motivated in fish-keeping and anything that you do I suppose. All best, F.

Everyone says for advice get a 50 or 75gal but i cant right now and i figured i have time till he gets bigger for that. You think 30 gal would be okfor now, bc rn i jave him in a regular sized tank 10gal or so.

It also comes with a coral reef bg, lid, filter, air stone, plants, and decor. This guy is really nice because I told him I was buying with my allowance and he's only charging me $15! Which works out great because my allowance is only $20 so I can buy gravel because it doesn't include any. I'll be sure to watch lots of your videos to learn how to take care of my fish!

    When I had my first aquarium, a 20 gallon, I thought NA I only have to to a water change every 2 months or so :). My fish lived in there becuase they got used to the terrible perameters. Then I said, I want a 75 gallon tank, I will take care of it once a week, check the parameters every 2-3 days. My fish are doing amazing. Now we set up a 32 gallon reef, it’s going great.

    I know you said you learned some mistakes and such, and I also really don't want to read all of the comments to see if anyone missed this, but you should never get fish until your tank is done amd fully cycled. The fish have about 30 minutes of oxygen in that bag. So you want to make sure your tank is done before getting them to make sure they have plenty of oxygen and don't die in the bag! :)

    I used to own bettas as a kid. I had no idea what I was doing. It wasn't until years later I decided to get back into the hobby but with a fresh mind and everything. I put my betta into the tank that didn't have a cycle. Fortunately the betta was fine since I had a heater and filter in a 5 gallon tank. It took me a while to get it cycled but fortunately he did survive.
    Reminds me of what I did when I got my first fish that I decided to do some proper research after growing up but man I was cringing so hard. Glad to hear things have improved! Because that was so cringey watching every single one of those mistakes you made in the video. Thanks!

    • @jessicamullis8326
      @jessicamullis8326 Před 7 lety +15

      hey jay, so basically a fish tank is a mini ecosystem that runs on ammonia, ph, nitrates and nitrates called the 'tank cycle'. When setting up a new tank it is going to go through a cycle. having ammonia, nitrates and nitrates are bad and you don't want them so thats why you have a filter which holds beneficial bacteria in it. however this beneficial bacteria need time to set up in your new tank which is why you have to wait for it to cycle before you put anything into the tank. this process takes approximately 3 weeks, and you can take your water to a local pet store or buy a water testing kit to monitor this. I work with aquatics at a pet store so i can help you online with setting up your tank if needed! it is not as hard as it seems :) but it vital if you want happy healthy fish. this is why so many fish die early is because people do not understand this process

    I’m sure you will do better next time but do many hobiests are cringing you didn’t cycle the tank before adding fish you should probably wash the gravel before you put it in the tank and you really shouldn’t tip pet shop water into your tank

    the tank should cycle for about a month or two before adding the fish. You can add api quick start which speeds up the the process but still should take about 10 days. also you should feed sinking pellets because the fish go to the surface and get a gulp of air which can cause buoyancy issues. You did a lot better than most people would have tho

    I made the same mistake. Although if it makes you feel any better I messed up even worst then you did. I had 3 silver sharks. Didn't cycle anything, Didn't know how big they would get until after I got them. Put some chlorine remover in. 4 day's later and they were dead. Probably suffered but we all live and learn. Now I have a turtle, Soon to be 2 turtles in Two separate 4ft tank's. Gonna have to eventually be 6-8fter's. A community fish tank. 2ft with small guppies, Bottomfeeders and another type I can't remember the name of lol. Fully cycled and my guppies have had babies. Im thinking about getting Shrimp or even some frogs in the community tank.
