      I must admit it on a very striking livery and I remember them at Paddington like that fresh out the paint shop in the late 90s early 2000s.

    The dapol HST is great, very sure footed and generally works well, I have 3 as you may know.
    They are prone to uncoupling though, it’s not the springs rather the coupling heights, if the track goes up and down it could come apart. (The layout you ran yours on did have a few ups and downs), I press a dob of bluetac in the coupling with a small pair of pliers once it’s on the track, great after that.

      Or switch to hunt couplings - more prototypical spacing and no uncoupling. Worth it guaranteed.

      I will look into the hunt couplings

    I have my eye on the upcoming GWR Castle HST set from Dapol. The livery is stunning and for 180 quid it looked a steal. Thanks for the review of the base loco to make sure it wasnt a lemon in fancy clothes

      Hello
      They are a fab set and so easy to put lighting into aswell you can't go wrong with one of these sets but the only draw back is you have to watch the head and tail lights.

      @@chelmswoodjunction Thanks Peter, I will look into that. My only worry with the upcoming GWR set is that dapol mention in their description they are using tampo wraps to update the slam doors to current sliding doors. I hate wrap liveries as they obscure detail if applied badly. Is your fag packet a wrap or painted? Thanks

      @@chelmswoodjunction This is the exact description from Dapol [via Gaugemaster] "Although not featuring new tooling for the sliding doors, it’s hoped that clever use of tampo printing will ensure an atmospheric representation of this train."

      Painted I think not really noticed it being a wrap.

      I presume you mean will I be getting more coaches for the hst.
      And the answer is yes if I can get them all.

    What's the top speed of a one trailer HST, 10 mph less per trailer less than five below line speed; if you ask me that was the real reason for the recent Stonehaven crash.

    • @chelmswoodjunction
      @chelmswoodjunction  Před 2 lety

      hi david
      i wouldnt like to say what the top speed of just 2 power cars are but i would say normal line speed.
      and when it comes to train accidents i would say we all wasnt there so we couldnt say.

      @@chelmswoodjunction HST sets are all braked vehicles, as you reduce the number of braked trailers, the brakes on the power cars have to brake proportionally more of their own constant mass, it's a matter of physics and well established rail regulations; the full HST line speed on the line from the signal box/crossing going north to Stonehaven is 70 mpth which would suggest a maximum of 50mph for that formation, i would very much like to have access to the full report, the set clearly travelled a long way after derailling..
