Yeh and you can’t meat a good size mud crab? When I go over to see my cousin in Australia he’s takes me mud crab foraging, non of that paying stupid prices in restaurants, then whack up a BBQ and cook on the heat. Gareth, I would just like to say that I have never had to tackle a whole lobster, but I do enjoy eating lobster and crab. I have found that the easiest thing to do is to buy a bag of prepared crab claws which are ready cooked and scored in the thickest areas of the shell, then using assorted tools such as a metal skewer, nut crackers and a meat tenderising hammer, you can soon learn how to pick the claws clean. Once you get confident you can progress to tackling a whole crab(pre -cooked for convenience) and thence to the point where I am now of cooking my own crabs after I go to the sea side to purchase them, either from a fisherman or a fishmonger. Next I will have to go catch my own and then I’ll finally get to deal with the lobsters myself. Okay the first time I tackled a crab I was bricking myself but I just practiced for a while and now it doesn’t phase me. Don’t forget to extract the meat from the legs as I did first time and use the very tips of the legs as picks and use the empty shells to make fish stock for soups or sauces.
