Hello ! Nice to see totaly identical problem as mine - in good meaning... My audi was starting do that at like -15. Was looking something similar at google/forums and there was nothing! So at the end i was grabed my newly ordered Hex v2 installed a software, and scanned the car. Was Misfireing 1,4 and 5 cylinder - under that codes was Glowplugs ! Was put them under Electrical tester and they realy was bad, changed just all of them and all is Fine now even at - 20 and more !
That starter / battery combo is really not giving up! What type of battery do you have? Mine is much more weak (at -30c this weekend) and had to get a booster out to get it going.
I have the same car, it takes a 110ah monster. I have a Varta Silver and it performs the same, but -30 is pretty horrendous for diesels without a oil/block heater

Without a block heater on a higher mileage motor, this is pretty normal. There are things you can do to make it start easier, such as cycling the key a few times to get the glow plugs working better (and making sure your glow plugs are working to begin with...) Modern Diesels do have DPFs, but a 17 year old car is by no means modern. I don't think these TDi have DPFs or DEF.
You have some serious problem with this car. It does not metter . I own 2008 vw phaeton 3.0 TDI ( same engine as audi 3.0tdi ) it starts in -10 - 12 celcius immediatly without a problem just few cranks.

It should've started way sooner.. maybe glow plugs or poor injector spread. Starter and battery are definitely good lol

Glow plugs! My W123 300D was like that if two were dead. Having said that -27C is F cold! You have a great battery!!!

One injector costs about 1500€ so you need change all that

well that sounds amazing, but that audi has way too much trouble starting up
I think it’s just the battery is that can’t start the car
One or more glow plugs not working.
Pretty easy fix and afterwards it'll start just fine.
@@TheGaang the battery and the starter were the only good things here. Its the injector or the glow plug thats failing

This Audi needs a proper overhaul. I have a Golf mk7 TDI 2.0 with 215000kms. Started in -32C like it was summer, without any preheating or other help.

Not every winter they have such a low temperatures. No one really expected it to be -43 celsius in northern finland.
