- This is a video on how to replace your Chevy sonic 1.8 liter serpentine belt I got the belt from advance auto for 25 dollars it's a 3 year warranty belt by carquest/dayco the second part of this video is more or less the clean up process and putting it back together if you like what you see give it a thumbs up and if you wanna see more of what I have going on hit that subscribe button and tap the notification bell also if you really are feeling the video share on Facebook so we can grow the channel. Thanks for watching guys ✌
Came here to find the routing of the belt. Got more than that. Thanks mate.
Don't ya luv when the neighbor decides to mow his lawn exactly when you need to make a video,
Yes it use to happen alot lol
“Use to”....
Oh shit
Big thanks. Saved my ass a lot of work, i was gonna go from the top, removing engine mountings and shit.
Big thanks.
Glad it could help honestly.
Great video, when I changed mine the guy at the shop recommended that I take picture of the belt before taking it off. Thanks for sharing
Yes that's a good way to remember the direction of the belt as well
Good video but don’t use a wrench. Use a serpentine belt bar or a breaker bar with socket. A wrench with a bar can easily slip off and jack up your hand. Still a very informative video. Good job
Oh for sure my hands have been bitten up tons of times.
Thank You for this you just made my day so much easier!! You are the MAN Nick!
Thanks man yea I never really noticed any videos on it so I figured why not cause I bet it will help some people out
Ok so i dont know about anybody else but b4 you go ripping the plastic down lol mine had the wheel sensor wire strapped to it, dont rip that, also mine is not a simple "pop it down" i have the other plastic guards holding it firmly in place. Maybe a shot of how it was stock or maybe if you could show how the plastic came apart from the pieces touching it.
Most helpful video I needed. Thank u
Glad it could help
Good info for removing the belt. Think a bearing seized on the alternator cuz the motor stopped while running and won't crank. Had that happen on a Astro van 25 years ago.
Rspec Nick, Thanks for the serpentine belt video and pretty much any video pertaining to the Chevy Sonic! It's something I'll be doing later down the road! If you do a video on the water pump, I'm all ears!
I really should do the water pump I already have the whole pump assembly basically all that is gonna be is take off the water pump pulleys then you undo the bolts make sure the surface is clean and then drop the new pump in mine came with a new gasket it's from airtex
Did you ever to the water pump. Do you just do this to get the belt off then pull the pulley and pump off? Mines a 2011 Chevy Cruze 1.8 but I believe they are about the same
I didn't have to change the belt from the bottom i changed mines from the top but everybody has different ways of doing it as long as the job is done👍🏾
Thank you. Your video helped me out tonight. Wish you the best.
Glad it could help
Thank you very much, it looks like it's wide because according to the manufacturer the belt size is 6KP 1550a for Sonic 2012
Pls do you know the size for Chevy Aveo LT 1.6 valve engine belt
Subscribed.
Great video!!! Guys like you make life so much easier for diy’ers like me. Thx!!!
Thanks 👌
Best and easier video ever
Thank you hope it could help
Tks for your video help me alot when I change belt on my chevy car
Good job buddy.
Thanks man, exactly what I needed.
Glad it could 👌
Great video bro you did a wonderful job thank you
Hopefully it could help
You can get a 12 point socket on that nub with the splines.
good jop, good explanetion, the vest.
Hopefully it helps 👌
Thanks
Couldn't the neighbor just waited till he got done with the video
This is a great video and this morning I tried to do the same task but had some trouble. At around the 4:30 mark of your video, you pull down the plastic covering. I tried to do the same but there is another plastic bolt clip behind the air tank cleaner that I cannot access. I can't pull it down. Thinking maybe because I have a 2016. Do you or anyone else have any idea how to access that or get around this barrier?
Inferno Orange, just like mine.
It's not to bad of a color
Everybody that sees it loves the color. Oddly, however, it is the rarest color out there. I have seen 2 or 3 in the year and a half I hav owned mine.
@@michaelnorris6365 yea i always see the silver, black or red ones a barely see the orange ones
Would you have any clue where the intake Camshaft Position Sensor is located?
It should be on the passenger side of the engine right below the valve cover are you getting a code p0013?
Rspec Nick I’ve been getting the same reading that it needs a Camshaft Position Sensor for the intake, instead of the exhaust. All I can find online is the location for the crankshaft position sensor for the 1.8L engines, even on the Sonic forums, unless I’m not looking hard enough. I have a 2015, which still has the exact same setup as yours. Lol
@@Branbran1993 if it's the sensor I'm thinking of those are on the passenger side
nice videos
Thank you
Rspec Nick, are you doing any videos on timing belt in near future?
If I do it won't be for a couple months yet unfortunately more then likely my next videos are the rear tail light and water pump I've been putting those off for awhile now
@@RspecNick the water pump will be a good one. Any video you do on the Sonic would be greatly appreciated
@@paulwilson2201 thanks man and yes I know that some of the Sonics water pumps come without the pulley and some come with it the one I got is by gates and it came with the new seal and no pulley wheel all it is basically loosen the pulley bolts on the water pump then remove the serpentine belt then the pulley wheel then remove the couple of bolts on the water pump and then reverse process for the most part
l like it
Tell that guy to stop mowing lol
Lol that guy was mowing every day
Good tutorial video, can confirm that its all 100% correct what he did
Your dumbass neighbor chose to mow their lawn at the worst time, my God lmao. That was the downside to this video
The mechanic guy told me that my serpentine belt is starting to crack and age......how much do these people charge to replace this? at least on average?
Should be less then an hour of work. Took me like 10 minutes to do it and the belt was only 16 Dollars
@@RspecNick thank you 🙏
I have a Chevrolet Sonic that has a coolant temperature of about 105. Is this normal or dangerous?
105 degrees is pretty good alot of cars hover early 100s my car now hovers at about 130-140 degrees antifreeze has a high boil point
Why u change the belt was it because u hard a squeaking song when ac on ??
Mine squeaked a decent amount the belt was just old the dealer told me it was my timing belt and I knew it wasn't all it was was that belt 20 bucks and good as new
FYI, the Sonic weighs 2700lbs NOT 4000lbs. It will still make for a VERY bad day if it falls on you.
Yea I was thinking about my old Subaru earlier that day I got the weights mixed up lol but yes it would still hurt for sure
does a socket wrench fit in there?
Yes a socket can fit
@@RspecNick thanks! and good video. it’s helps a lot
@@theonewhoknocks2835 Thank you and I'm glad it could help
Man this belt is too tight
Is the serpentine belt the same thing as timing belt
No the timing belt is different it's actually behind the serpentine belt you have to take alot of the other pulleys off to get to it and pop up the passenger side motor mount to exchange that belt
@@RspecNick thanks for explaining that. I'm replacing my water pump this weekend and I realized I ordered a timing belt instead of serpentine. I thought they were the same thing. I'm going to replace the serpentine belt as well as belt tensioner.
@@paulwilson2201 no worries and yes that's a good idea to replace the belt and tensioner at the same time for sure. Usually these cars are good alittle past 100k on the timing belts it will send your check engine light on most times for the timing belt service
how do u get the alternator out I cant find one video
WADEPH33R3 I actually have a video on my channel of the alternator replacement it's gonna drop straight down between the subframe and muffler
Rspec Nick could you link the video I cant find it and thanks for the reply
WADEPH33R3 it's not up on my channel, but I can try to explain it once you get the bolts out and it's unhooked from the positive wire and the connector in the back it will fall back I did all of it by going from under the car with a jack it's gonna drop behind the passenger tire you do gotta wiggle it some with alittle force but you can push the muffler towards the driver side to get alittle room just watch out for the heat shields cause they wanna try to grab it on the way out I'll try to find the video too
Rspec Nick much appreciated
WADEPH33R3 no problem I don't think I have the video clip for it anymore either but you defiantly have to wiggle it to get it to come out I know that hopefully it will help alittle.
what brand was the old one?
I wanna say it was AC delco
@@RspecNick what you have for mileage? i also have a 2012, just wondering how things compare.
@@rottmanthan I had 99k miles before I got rid of the sonic for the genesis
@@RspecNick i have no record on my belt history but mine is at 98k and the belts both look good, no cracks and print is still plenty visible, i think print on timing belt is even better than on the serpentine belt.
@@rottmanthan oh yea I replaced my belts at like 68k miles. The timing belt looked good tho at 68k miles
from Pakistan
How's it going out that way
wheres your power steering belt?
It only using the one belt
Where is the timing belt on 2013 sonic 1.8?
5ifthwheel the timing belt is behind the plastic cover you would need to move a couple of things out of the way to get to it you gotta remove the serpentine belt and it's back behind that you would also have to loosen up the engine mount on the passenger side to slip in the new belt
Rspec Nick does the timing belt need marks or simply pull of pull on.
5ifthwheel they do have marks on them for TDC cause it's still an interference engine not many car companies make non interference engines anymore
Is this the timing belt?
Manuel Aparicio no this is the serpentine belt that drives the ac,water pump and alternator
Thanks man don’t know much about auto mechanics but I’m trying,
Manuel Aparicio once you get the basics down it's easy cause most motors are the same until you jump from single overhead cam to dual over head came 4 cylinder to 6 overall it's easy tho most people are just to worried they will break something
@@RspecNick i like working on motorcycles.. you never need to jack it up and you can just walk around it and not go underneath it. things can be hard to reach but taking the tank and airbox off gives you access to pretty much everything on most bikes. i'm trying to transfer my moto mechanic skills to my car now, first car since i've only had bikes for almost 5 years now. just gotta get a jack and some jack stands and these silly E-torx that Chevy likes to use.
@@zoomjoo yes for sure bikes are nice with that stuff and yea honestly the torx bits arent to bad eventually alot of cars are gonna switch over to those most likely
my name ulfat my job auto election and car ac repearing
