- In order to achieve the right fluid level and capacity, it is important to air bleed the oil pump in the differential when changing the fluid on Honda's using the iVTM4 AWD system. This applies to 2016 and up Honda Pilots.

Wow, great job and descriptions. I appreciate the details, gloves for cleanliness and products, well done.
Hell yeah ty you are gonna save me allot of money
Good video.👍 Thanks, Owen.
Thank you Steven!
I changed my rear differential fluid today on my 2023 Honda Pilot and this guide was spot on, thank you!
Awesome! Glad to help and hope your experience was less messy!
I concur. I did the same to my 2023 pilot. Mine took about 4 to 5 pumps but that was because I let it drain for a while
How much did cost you ? because i am at the dealer and they are charging $150
@@fawad20982 Total of $70. bought all items from Amazon. $60 for fluid, $5 for drain plug, $5 for fluid pump. Took about 15-20 minutes to do.
@@fawad20982 150 here too in northern california
Very nice sir. Thank you.
Most welcome!
Thank you!!!
You're welcome!
Thank you very much for your detailed video explanation demonstration. My car is a 2022 HONDA CRV-Hybrid. I followed your video to change the transmission oil for the first time. Only question, why is the old oil I put out colorless and the one you recommended is pink. Could it be that the wrong oil type was replaced?
Dear Owen,
It's been a while now since you posted a video.
Would you please consider testing Ceratec vs Motorkote?
Many 🙏 thanks!
Ill take a look into those. I have a new video for you:

I was just at my local Honda dealer a few minutes ago, and they told me the torque spec for the drain plug and fill plug for both the rear differential and the transfer case is 31 ft lbs for my 2018 Honda Pilot.
That’s literally no difference learn how to tighten something without relying on torque specs
@@Therealestrunnerluda Thats foolish and risky. People have put small cracks in housings that way.
Is it ok if I didn’t do the priming procedure?
I saw that my fluid level was down about two pumps when I drained it anyhow, from factory fill
How many miles were on your Pilot when this A6 indicator showed up on your maintenance minder? Also, could you also do a video on how to change the gear oil in the transfer cares.
I don't remember the exact moment because it did not illuminate as a warning, just when I checked the maintenance minder for the oil life is when I saw code #6. It should come up at 15k miles but the maintenance minder system has a life of its own. The transfer case is part of the transmission so changing the transmission fluid would change the transfer case as well.
If the transfer case was part of the transmission why is it different fluid and different service intervals? May want to rethink your comment.
I’ve got a 2021 pilot with 45k miles. The b16 maintenance light came on which according to the internet means it need tire rotation, oil change, and differential fluid change. Does this mean that every time I change the engine oil I’ll also have to change the differential fluid? Thanks and great video👍🏻
Once you reset code 6 you won’t have to do it again until it comes back on with the maintenance minder on the dashboard. You should be good for at least another 30k miles.
How often should this be changed? I have a brand new 2022 Honda passport EX-L with only 10291 miles on it. I see that my oil has got 30% left and the B6 code sign.
Honda's maintenance minder system does not generally go by mileage intervals, the computer decides when its time to change a fluid based on usage features such as age, temp, distance. To me, 10k miles seems very early for code 6 but it must be done. 30% is probably indicating oil like left. On my 21 it doesn't provide a % for any other fluid other than oil. From what I've read online, such as the Piloteers forum, the average interval for the rear diff is 30k miles and oil is 10k miles. I do my oil at 5k intervals though.
can i re-use a pump i used for transmisiion fluid?
As long as it is not contaminated with any old ATF. Might have to rinse it out.
Did you need to jack up the vehicle to get to the access points?
No I did not jack it up, just used wheel blocks to keep the vehicle from moving.
Hi I was wondering how to reset the 1 code after the A and before the 6.
My code reads A16. If that's rotate tires I have
At the end of the video I go through the code reset procedure.
@@OwenLucas oh?
@@OwenLucas Awesome thx
How do you replace coolant
Haven't changed it on the Honda yet.
Which plug gets the 20mm washer?
I believe it was the upper drain bolt. It's been a while so just make sure to keep track of the sizes when you are removing the washers.
I just changed my transfer case and rear differential fluids today. On the differential the fill plug gets the 20 mm washer.
Where did you get the torque specs?
It was from a Honda maintenance guide I found online, I don’t recall where exactly.
Where did you get the correct washers at?
Best place would be the Honda dealer.
