    In my opinion, the old antique equipment is still far superior to today's stuff, with the exception of comfort and AC. This is how farming was and how it made today's farming possible. Great video as always, cheers :)

    That pull type combine is doing an excellent job. Could you imagine trying to do 100 acres or more with that setup like back in the old days? They would be some hot days I bet. Just like bailing hay or straw. Better watch out for the women passing by. They don't see too many studs these days with a true man setup like that. Lol thanks for sharing.

    • @rosstheoliverman
      @rosstheoliverman  Před rokem +2

      That’s what I was thinking. It was a lot of fun for the amount I did. If I had to do a whole field, probably would get sick of it. That’s part of why I had to stop, the women clinging all over me I just couldn’t run the controls anymore. 🤣🤣🤣

    My Dad had a bagger ,i believe it was a minny . My job was to operate the bagger station . As each bag was filled I switched the down spout tied the bag and slipped it down the bag chute . I had to hold them until we came to a place in the field where I had dropped others . After we were finished combining we drove around with a wagon picking up bags and they had better be tied tight . Then took them home and dumped the bags as we needed them for the next day . A bit of responsibility for a young school kid .I can remember days when it ran well others when it acted out continuously . I hated that combine . All that over sixty years ago .I wish I could go around those fields again with my Dad . You reminded me of those days Good times !

    Nice conditions! Crop standing well, and a perfect day! When I was growing up we had a JD 30 combine. It was nearly as old as me, because my grandpa bought it new, and they gave me a toy JD combine! They traded a JD 12A for it. Like any farm kid, I was driving tractors at a young age. The local AC dealer had a Allis 40 combine, and my dad wanted to buy it and put me on it with our Allis C. But he couldn't get a deal done on it, so it never happened. Boy we would have been BTOs with those! 😂. I did run the "dirty 30" at times. It was on a WD45. Just after HS I bought an old round back JD 42 combine at an auction. It was rough at the cutter bar and had beat itself 1/2 death with all of the sheet metal busted and cobbled up. After i fixed all of that, and had put in new cylinder bars, it was a decent combine. Then the 30 sat, and I got the job of doing all of the combining. I used my IH 1026 hydro, and it was a nice setup. Then I bought a MF 510, and never used a pull type again.

    your speed over ground, should make the reel look like is walking thru the wheat, and not so slow as to have the reel beat the grain from the heads before it gets into the combine, so it all depends on the rpm. and gear you use, our old combine, had a Wisconsin air cooled motor to power it, and a weed seed bagger on the back, I remember dad, stopping on to dump the bag, off the end of the field, and having to grease all those fitting, and oil the chains every day, before it got used, usually done in the cooler mornings, as you would have to wait until the dew was gone, and the grain was dry

    As a person who likes small farm and homestead living, seeing these old pieces of equipment doing work always makes me smile. Thanks for sharing!

    A friend of mine just bought an Oliver pull type combine at auction. Do not know what model it was but is in excellent condition.

    Brings back memories of going to my uncle's farm in the summer in the 70's to help harvest. Looks like you had a pretty good day!

    Fantastic video. You took me immediately back on dads farm with his super 88 and his old john deere combine. How I miss those days. Thank you for taking me back. I couldn't stop smiling. Thank you again.

    Yellow and red looks good out there in the field. Good job getting it functional.

    My dad had one like this but it was powered by a Wisconsin 4 cylinder it worked when he parked it in the barn 45 years ago but after he passed the thing was locked up tight

    That old dog can still get the job done, the combine isn’t half bad either.

      Thanks! Yeah yeah, you could still see that on the old decals if you look close. Modern machinery. I’ve got some new decals that came with it so hopefully if I get it finished painted I can put those on.
